Personally I do see this arc as we start to see Natsu step into Acnologia's shoes about dragons. If you happen to know the two, they're parallels on their view points on dragons. As Acnologia is what Natsu would have been if Igneel turned against him like what the dragon Acnologia did who he and Igneel were mentor like figures. Especially around back at the water dragon arc, Natsu was conflicted about taking Mercphobia.

She did technically win the fight thanks to Wendy but dealing a major blow It was only after everything was set and done Irene took her life And ya I tend to agree that events at the end of the fight was kinda much. I liked the story told but I feel the fight could’ve been done better It’s also possible I interpreted the scene wrong and Wed meant Erzas stand out fights that people would know and talk about

Both deaths left a bad taste in my mouth. It just added to an already bad final Arc even though there are some highlights.
