I am actually an electrical engineer! This was very entertaining to watch! FYI on the capacitor, uF = micro-farad. And the dimmer simply adds resistance to the circuit. Dont perform this circuit test on a metal table!!!

@@Josefppaz I knew a guy in school that was always makin electronc gizmos that shocked people. He literally turned everyone into Pavlov's dog. After a while, people would avoid him or at minimum, watch where his hands were. He didnt even have to have anything in his hands. He would just walk up to them and say, "BZZZZT" and poke them in the side and they would jump out of their shoes. Theres a term for those kinda people, but I'm trying to keep my youtube account. 😂😂

everyone here seems to be an electrical engineer and despite the bla-bla-bla from some, and the know how of one, i say that, this video is awesome!. thank you buddy>

Very cool, thank you for this video it helped a lot, I could not find anything like this anywhere. What is the purpose of the hose clamp around the spark plug though? does it act as a ground for the ignition coil?

i was wondering how the dimmer had anything to do with a relay! so is hooking up ac to the capacitor like this ok? neat little trick and saves on a battery!
@usamasadaqat53394 жыл бұрын
what source of electricity you used ? AC or DC? And of what value? I am trying to do the same with 12V DC battery and not getting any spark.
@Josefppaz4 жыл бұрын
Electricity used is AC for this experiment you might try a 555 timer circuit for DC

is it possible to just connect the capacitor to the spark plug wire to increase to output spark or would you need some kind of timing setup to controll the output spark? i have a moped that i want to increase to spark power like what you see with the KML wires. but i hear, using a high output capacitor would do the trick. is this true? or would i be creating a constant arc instead of the timed spark?
@aerialwheel37199 жыл бұрын
i know yours is an old post, but... there is a capacitor that you might be able to upgrade in CDI (non-points) ignition. it is in front of the high-voltage coil. there should be nothing between your high voltage coil and your spark plug other than a high tension wire and a proper end plug
@heathhill780212 жыл бұрын
If you want to know a little bit more on your hobby ,check out a device that is called (triac) Its basically the beating heart of your circuit .it lay within your dimmer switch .the triac chops the frequency up ;in return makes your coil not saturate . So to all the engineers out there ,I stand corrected it is still @ 60 HZ !
@heathhill780212 жыл бұрын
The dimmer does not act as a relay ,only a resistor. what your doing is using the outlet ,in fact is ac, till you get to the capacitor then acts as a dc source at the coil for 30hz (half of 60 ) the cap used this way is called a bypass filter ! good job , I think i will try it on a ford coil over !

Hi, Great Video, Thanks for posting it. Question: Doesn't the dimmer switch have an on/off switch built in? The one I bought does. Mine has more wires than 2 though. Let me know. Thanks, Tony
@Josefppaz7 жыл бұрын
ya buddy I believe there was a switch on the dimmer I used. You had to push in the round nob and that would be your on and off
@arsenioogdar23437 жыл бұрын
it is applicable for the four wheels or motorcycle only

That refers to the maximum voltage the coil can produce. It's a pretty safe assumption that if a spark jumps a gap on the coil's high voltage leg, then it didn't produce the full rated voltage. As soon as air in the plug gap ionizes enough for electrons to flow, the coil begins discharging and you get the spark. Maximum voltage doesn't matter as long as the spark jumps when you want it to.
@tonyvanntruth29697 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you just use a spark plug wire from the coil to the spark plug?

Ac is alternating current. In a electrical socket where you plug into, the right side is hot and the left slot is neutral. Just to let you know, but otherwise I love your video. Thanks

a starter coil works off 12 v DC not 120/240V AC so you would blow it up
@Josefppaz9 жыл бұрын
+Nick Muir Hi Nick your absolutely right it would blow up if it was directly connected to the house mains. .electrical engineer told me a dimmer simply adds resistance. Now the coil does get warm fast over a period of time, so I just use it in short intervals.
@lostinspaceelectronics8708 жыл бұрын
+Josefppaz no it won't it just becomes a huge magnet gets hot and makes very hot arcs it won't blow up I put 440v 50 amps threw it just hotter arcs than a not and these can burn a coil not detonate and explode

555 and transistor driver works very well, and won't overheat coil. Will work from battery pack, needing no extension cords. You are connecting parts with no understanding what they are doing or how they work, and apparently no regard for voltage and current ratings. By luck they simply happen to sort of, kind of work, however not likely well, or very long. But hey, it's your parts, money, and life. Best of luck you don't fry yourself or mom's good tupperware.
