Thank you for this. I didn't have this exact problem, it suddenly wouldn't turn with three keys, but that little button on the cylinder allowed me to wrench over the key and break loose whatever piece of shit that was lodged in there. I felt it let go. Now all the keys work easily. Filled the lock with Teflon spray and hoping it won't come back soon.

@dk-bw4gk3 жыл бұрын
@@Jfitch24 I didn't use the allen wrench to turn anything, pressing that button just defeats whatever device stops the cylinder from rotating otherwise. I used considerable force to turn the key with that button pressed in and some piece of grit or something finally let go. It's been a while so I don't remember the details.

Thanks a lot for creating this video. I had a little bit of struggle during the installation until I realized that the retaining lock pin was still depressed. It is necessary to ensure that it gets released once the assembly sits in the final position.

I'm about to do this same job. Love this guy's easy going, relaxed tone. Also...amazing how much prices range for new ignition key cylinders. I saw prices online and conventional stores anywhere from $150-220. On Amazon, I got an Hyundai OEM key cylinder for $38.99. The range of prices is remarkable.

A locksmith can rebuild this switch for about the same price, as I do it often. The best option is to repair the switch because if you ever lose your keys making a new key for the non original switch is a lot harder and cost alot more. As you stated you now have to carry 2 key to operate your car. So the smarter choice is to have a locksmith fix it for you..

Trying to replace the switch on a 2006 Sonata which, I'm assuming, will be accomplished in much the same way. I'm replacing the switch because I can no longer get it to turn, so if i'm unable to rotate the cylinder to the ACC position, is there another way I can get it out. Other than busting everything else up.

Still can be done - Lower the column. Dremmel a slot in the so called antitheft bolts. Use a screwdriver to take out the bolts. Put the switch on a bench and drill out that button lock then assemble as needed with new lock assembly. Good Luck

I just run into such issue: if you can't turn it to accessory position, REMOVE THE ENTIRE IGNITION ASSEMBLY. Type this on ebay so you can see the entire part.: "2006-2010 HYUNDAI SONATA IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY W 2 KEYS USED OEM! Once you remove it, DRILL the ignition cylinder lock (where the keys go) in order to override the accessory option. I'd buy the ignition cylinder lock BEFORE you start in order to have a point of reference. While you are at it, buy the ignition starter (white piece on that goes on the back) so you can replace both, front and back at once. One more thing, the tiny lock that's on the side of the front cylinder lock, you will have to hit it HARD in order to release it from the main body. Good luck!

Hello cindermaxfelix Just to thk U for that great vid.. Just completed repair on my 09 sonata...But here is my story . I live in Montreal canada..and here our NF generation Sonatas mfg in Alabama are equipped anti thief device wheras U in USA are not..I bought on EBay my new lock just to find out it came with no chip key ! therefor no match for my canadian Sonata. Therefor I had to rebuild my old lock swapping parts with my new Ebay purchase. Guess US base insurance companies did not put pressure on cars manufacturers to equip US market cars with anti thief device as we have here(CANADA) . Anyhow my Ebay purchase help me rebuild my old lock. BTW purchasing a new lock and chip keys and getting Hyundai to program it would have been a $750(cdn dollars) . U just save me a pile of $$$ ...Denis here...(French canadian ) doing my best to write in english language.

For future reference ALL kia/hyundai models are non chipped, for the exception of the Kia Amanti and Berago
@nathanryhard4505 Жыл бұрын
@@TNcountrylife Not true in Canada. Denis is correct. The Canadian Hyundais use chip keys whereas many of the American versions of the same models do not. I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS and it has a center cut key with a chip. All the American replacement parts have external cut keys without transponders for the same model. This makes it particularly confusing for Canadians trying to find the correct replacement parts. My locksmith confirmed that this is a common issue between Canadian market and American market cars, even when from the same manufacturer.

a microchip in the key was your probleme??
@briand97646 жыл бұрын
No the problem was I disconnected my battery for to long and my cars Ecu reset itself to stock. Overtime your car has to compensate for carbon buildup and it tells the ecu how to do that. Long story short I had to give the car gas while holding the brake to shift into drive, then I drove for 25 miles on mostly straightaways with little stops and my car ecu reprogrammed itself so it knew how to work properly. Hopefully that makes sense.
