Meh every car guy that works on his own car goes through this. It’s a learning experience and you move on, even the experienced people didn’t jump into it not ever breaking anything or having those moments of frustration. Kudos to the honesty and for maybe showing someone else that’s getting into cars that it’s perfectly ok to not know everything or to break things (hopefully not often) but you get the point

Bud, to prevent engine hydro lock you HAVE to drain coolant from the the radiator first before you even start taking off coolant hoses to throttle body. I’ve done this repair and you can easily hydrolock these engines by not draining coolant before intake manifold removal. They are designed to flow coolant just about everywhere in the engine. Even your alternator has coolant flowing to cool brushes. You must prevent hydrolock and coolant draining from hoses straight down intake manifold ports once bolts are broke loose. That easy to F it up.

The realities of wrenching. I had a bolt snap in the cold side of my turbo on my 60k mile WRX during a downpipe install, and I've dealt with broken manifold bolts in a number of cars. As the saying goes, "every 3 hour project is one broken bolt away from being a 3 day project"

Seriously though man, a lot of respect for this video still being posted. I got a 6-speed B8 S4 and courtesy of school (both financially and time-wise) any unexpected trip to a shop is like a nightmare for me but if I also didn't have the car to work on then school would be all I do and at that point I might as well drive off a cliff lol. I could literally feel your struggle throughout the vid and I've been there so many times before. Tbh I probably woulda lost my sh*! and just called it quits at "Im missing a 15mm...." lol. I felt the need to chime in though because you did what most people struggle to do when everything goes to crap which is just be transparent because it's what starts fixing things again. Just to add to the accurate comments everyone already said, don't forget these cars aren't you're average pieces of machinery and given your work history plus all the successful projects between the b8.5, SQ5, S6 you should never feel like you're in over your head man. It's just a skill that you're now even better at given what you had to go through. I also thought I'd share what someone told me that helps slow the "downhill" effect and actually gets things to start going in my favor again: Attempting to fix things going wrong means something recent and still fresh threw you off , and trying to fix anything while irritated or on edge only will make it worse. Yea it sounds cliché but most people overlook the fact that if stuff went wrong to begin with, you're already pissed or irritated to some extent (assuming you're human) so inevitably you gotta take that sec and ask yourself if you're in a mood/ mindset to keep going or if you should take the time to get back to a more productive state.. It's usually just a matter of how soon you ask yourself that'll determine how the situation's gonna play out.. Hope it helps man

Honestly the problems you had were pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Especially when dealing with an Audi this old with that many miles. I know because I own a 2005.5 Audi S4 with 225k miles on it. Things will strip, things will break. The best advice I can give you is to persevere. The best way to learn is to do. Overcome the obstacles, apply your skills and see it through until you achieve the goal. If you think you're over your head and are afraid to make progress that's exactly what will happen, no progress. I understand wanting to let some one else do this for you that has more knowledge and experience but trust me when I say those people learned exactly this way. Best of luck man and keep doing your thing. Just wanted to throw a little motivation your way.

When you DIY a project, make sure your prepared to decommission vehicle for no less than 2 weeks to allow breakage, ordering and delivery of parts. The shop would do the same thing, break everything and charge you for all of it and still have similar parts delays.

dude went through similar troubles with my 08 S6 did a fuel pump job for the first time ended up kinking all 4 lines so removed the manifold to replace all 4 lines. Then had misfire and throttle body cconnector issues. Slowly I took my time and fixed it piece by piece. had old connectors for the throttle body that broke because of heat bought new connectors and repinned them both. so far no throttle body sensor error after giving the car a lot of power. no more misfire after finding a broken connector on the coil pack. The v10 has some similarities to the v8 but it was a learning experience though an extremely intimidating job but was glad I was able to fix my issues even if it took a few errors along the way. You’ll get it as long as you have the right tools and patients and don't rush you'll get it. if you have a job that may take 2 hours but because you're new it will take 6hours it's worth it to take as much time as possible.

Save your money, don’t take it to the shop. This generation of Audi will nickel and dime to the end. Your better off spending the money on an engine overhaul. Find all those broke plastic parts and swap them out for aftermarket metal ones. With that many miles it’s best to flush out all problems now then to find them later one by one dollar by dollar. Good luck 👍🏽🍀😊
