I worked in Bar Harbor summer of 89, I may or may not have done a bunch of lines of coke with a Bar Harbor police officer in the office of one of the restaurants they may or may not have filmed here. Also, the vast majority of businesses there are owned by out of staters.

I called the PD and spoke with a lieutenant. He was very professional and took the time to listen to my complaint. He said the officer’s behavior was not professional and not a reflection of how police officers should behave. I told him this type of video was a great way for people to learn to do better.

@@ayamehachimitsu Please rewatch the video and you will see that when Jason came up his parked car in a heated emotional state the Officer implied that there was no issue filming and though the discouse told Jason that he didnt even come over and spoke with him and in fact Jason was the one instigating the interaction. So this is why I said that in order to put to rest some of these "assumptions" auditors should refrain most of the time (depending on the situation) from making first contact with law enforcement.

Not that astonishing. Many people think unexplained or uninvited recording is mild aggression. They further expect this is the norm everyone has so if they question you, you'll immediately stop in order to speak with them to either explain yourself or negotiate. This is likely why *they* are offended and probably honestly feel threatened when they come up to the auditors and do not get the "polite" reaction of momentarily turning the camera off. (not that I agree with this, but I understand it).

After this video was posted, I reached out to Bar Harbor Police and they indicated several times they were preparing a media statement. Many emails later (and a FOAA request for footage of on the police officers’ phones), I have only received receipt confirmation of my FOAA request. My attorney was away and while I could have done it myself, it was a lot of money in filing fees and sheriff’s service. I live in Maine. we have many wonderful police but we also have many arrogant and uneducated local law-enforcement that simply have done the 100 hour minimum criminal justice accreditation and they truly are not up to speed on what is legal and what isn’t legal and they love to intimidate. I have been involved in two litigations regarding police corruption and I can tell you they change their tune when they’re being cross examined from someone that knows the law. keep up the good work!🇺🇸

We often hear accusations that auditors are putting (shoving) cameras in people's faces, but that was not the case today, and it is rarely the case ever. I was impressed that Christian of Downeast Deli was prepared to let you have the drinks for free. That is the sort of service that generates positive word-of-mouth.
