There's actually 9 or 10 seasons: First, second, and sometimes third fake Spring (occurs in March or early April), real Spring, first and second fake Summer (early June), then real Summer (also known as Construction), then you get Fall, but you get second Summer in mid to late September, then Winter hits end of October. The fake seasons are when you get one to seven days of an adjacent season during a season, for instance a week of Spring in mid march but then a blizzard hits and we're back to winter for three weeks.

Most Southwest Ontario here, we average just over 300. So far, your area sounds better! Dry air & averaging 330 sunny days. As far as housing here, it was one of the most inexpensive housing areas but Toronto buyers drove up the market where I am by buying up our properties. 😑

Having grown up in Calgary and moved to Toronto, I've continued to find the biggest misconception about Calgary is that it's so cold in the winter. In fact, as was suggested the considerable difference in humidity results in winters feeling far colder in Toronto. In the warmer months, the lack of humidity in the West results in far less sweating. There are times in Toronto coming indoors during the summer it appears as if I've showered in my clothes. Another considerable benefit to the dry climate of Calgary is the lack of fleas. I've had dogs all my life and had never even seen a flea until moving to Toronto. With the abundance of rats and raccoons fleas seem to be everywhere. Because Calgary is far more affordable than other cities there is not nearly as much of a concern with homelessness and maintaining a home appears to be far easier. Though there are homes that require maintenance and attention, it's nowhere near what it is in Vancouver or Toronto. There is also a lot of money in Calgary but it is very discreet and not at all flashy. As affordable a city as it is, it's also far easier to have a second home or travel more often. Many people I know have bought or travel to Palm Springs or Vancouver often, both locations are very easy and accessible from the Calgary Intl. Airport. One considerable plus to Calgary is the lack of rats. Albertans have enjoyed living without the menace of rats since 1950 when the provincial rat control program was established. Alberta is the only province in Canada that does not have any rats and is, in fact, the largest inhabited area on the planet that is rat-free. Even owning a pet rat is a serious offence in Calgary with fines of up to $5,000 per rodent, with the rats facing euthanasia or deportation. One big negative to Calgary is it's not as accessible as other cities. Calgary is much like LA, there is public transportation but having a vehicle makes it much easier. Residents of Calgary only have city buses and light rail transit compared to Toronto with streetcars, buses, and the subway on a constant turnaround.

The one thing I don't miss about Toronto is the humidity. It would feel like I was walking through a sauna. Calgary is very dry, and a lot of homes do not have AC. This summer 2021 was the first time in 9 years that Calgary was uncomfortable; not humid but the heat lasted longer than before.

Calgary is the only major affordable city in Canada for current and future generations Canadians and Immigrants. Calgary also has fastest growing tech, finance and film industry. Moreover, Calgary is also world’s cleanest and most livable city. I am already seeing some of my friends and family members who work from home moving to Calgary to buy home and get rid of expensive rental life in ON or BC. We will see more people moving from BC or ON to Calgary in coming years. Calgary is also sunniest ☀️ city in Canada.

In the good parts inner city would get you an infill, duplex or small newish home. In the suburbs, a very nice modern large home. Not really going up much, sometimes when oil booms it’s peaks for a bit, but been in a slump for some time. Most people I know have lost money housing, it depreciates doesn’t appreciate, more of a cost of living than an investment. My condo is worth 70k less than what I paid in 2011 (mortgage has come down though, so no problem). You won’t get rich here just from housing like people in Ontario and Vancouver have, it’s a good thing though as it’s always affordable for almost everyone.

I am not sure where to start, I lived in Calgary for 12 years(moved here from Toronto) and I agree with your assessment of the weather, it sucks, it really sucks. The winters are super cold and the summers are so dry the grass is brown by the end of June. Going to Banff or Canmore in the summer is a nightmare - so busy. Winters are a bit better. Anywhere else to travel takes forever to drive, you are really isolated. Also to compare Toronto and Vancouver to Calgary, is comparing apples to oranges. The reason the rents are cheap is because the economy is in a slump, the economy in Calgary lives and dies by the oil industry. The one good thing is the salaries are high, if you can hold onto your job and no PST. However, things tend to be more expensive in Alberta due to the location. Oh and I forgot to mention, people are very snobbish. I was happy to move away. Move to Ottawa instead.

Your assesment is very accurate Diana. All cities have their cons and pros. It is always good to taste different cities and find the one u feel really comfortable living in. People used to be very snob in Calgary because of the high salaries in the oil sector, now that the sector has crashed this attitude has diminished a bit, and many of that people has had the neccesity to reinvent their careers pathways as oil and gas is dead forever.

I've lived in Calgary for 40 years. I've never met anyone who was a snob because they worked in oil and gas; it was always because that was their personality.

@@sheilaheinrich2656 I did not say the people who work in the oil and gas sector were snobbish, I was speaking in general terms unless Everyone in Calgary works in oil and gas?

@The Blog Of Tech I would not know about the rent because I owned my own home, if it is that is a plus for Calgary.

@@carloscarrillo4841 I agree that you need to find a city that u feel is liveable to your standards. House prices and rents should not be the only factor for a livable city, because if that would be the case then everyone in Canada would be living in New Brunswick. I moved away from Calgary before the downtown and also changed careers from an oil and gas focussed profession to one more transferable. Alberta is a great province that has a lot to offer but I feel it needs to get off the oil and gas roller coaster and diversify its economy.

I grew up in manitoba... and you brag about 150 year old buildings? OK because no one can afford to replace them. The economy is trash the crime rate is horrendous. The Best jobs I had took place outside of the city working on farms. Don't brag about winnipeg its not that great lol. Also alberta has tons of heritage lol but not like you would know that.

Thanks for the video but you really don't like Toronto which is fine . I live in Calgary now and I'm counting the time because I'm going back to Toronto. In many ways in my opinion is a lot better there than here but is a personal opinion right ? Here is not the best place to be if you hate cold weather , racism, boring places , far for everywhere because for Vancouver is like 10 to 12 hours driving , bad public transportation, monotonous city , the downtown is a ghost 👻 town after 5 pm , etc .... these is not like big city life whatsoever ...it is and intermediate city and when the years past is boring unless you really love to snowboarding or skiing. Any way anyone make chooses and is a really personal opinion . 👍oh and in the covid situation is the worst !!! The infection will grow 😫 really bad because here there is not care about the infection , what matters here is what the white people thing .
