iGot a Free Liquid Cooled G5 2.7GHz

I was given this PowerMac G5 to play around with. Little did I know, this is one of the hotter running models of G5 which required liquid cooling! While this is not my first 2.7GHz G5, it should be fun to get it going and find out what this thing is capable of.

You have the best version of the cooling in that G5 because its Panasonic LCS, very rare, but compared to the Delphi LCS, much more reliable. There is not a single Panasonic one I can found online which leaked, but leaked Delphis are everywhere.

The Reason why the iMac install DVD didn't work was because Apple install discs only work for the computer they came with. Additionally, the 2009 iMac install discs only have the Intel binaries for Leopard, because iMacs were using intel. Whereas the normal standalone install discs you buy are Universal (have both intel and PPC binaries), and the computer installs the correct one.

I did know that there is a plist file or something that has a list of supported models (or unsupported?). It has been a while but I have edited that file and re-burned the disc to make it work on other models of Mac. But your point about only having Intel binaries does make sense and was not something that I had thought about!

Bit late to this party, but you can usually force an eject of the optical drive by holding down the mouse button on boot :)

Oh I definitely could have, but I think I was being lazy and didn't want to reboot the G5. Too late now :P

Like you i enjoy computers. i have about a dozen. 2 old rgb xps laptops . an xps730. amigas, g5, macpro3,1, one perfect i5 toshiba laptop and hp dc7800usdt in the bin at the recycling center! Crazy what people throw away
