@TheSweetCyclists Жыл бұрын
We've actually reviewed the newer iGPSPORT BSC200 and BSC300 and it seems like the navigation issues (overlapping routes / false turns on windy roads) issue is still present so I don't think they've been addressed. Those issues are more annoyances though, you can still use the navigation to explore new routes or do long bike rides.

Good, fair review; thanks. I've just bought one of these. Not sure why you brushed over battery life and didn't include it in your summary 'Pros' - at a claimed 35hrs I think that's outstanding. Downsides for me so far are the lack of re-routing (I'd have thought this was a 101 essential on a GPS device) and the fact that they don't supply a proper mount - those rubber O rings are going to fail for sure. Thanks again, your guide is much appreciated.
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists Жыл бұрын
Glad it has been working out for you. Definitely look into buying an out-front mount as the iGS630 uses a standard Garmin style mount. It puts the computer right in front of your stem and you don't have to deal with annoying rubber o-rings..

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 4 ай бұрын
Yes, there is a "return home" option that routes you back along your loaded route. As far as navigation you need to create the route (manually / import it / from a previous recorded ride), the GPS doesn't create the routes on-the-fly like Google Maps.

Thanks for the review. When you do zoom in/out map during navigation - how many different scales do you have, and what is the largest/smallest scale in m/ft?
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. The iGS630 we have has 5 zoom scales: 164ft / 328 ft / 0.1 mi / 0.2 mi / 0.5 mi. Unlike other computers, the zoom level seems to persist so it doesn't reset back when you switch pages.

Any synced and uploaded rides should show up on the iGPSPORT app. I'd make sure everything uploaded (you can see what is being uploaded on the device page) and then look through the ride history on the app. It's possible your date setting might be off so you are looking at the wrong time period.

I'd recommend reaching out to iGPSPORT to see if you can use third-party maps. The website has ".map" files but I don't know if that is a generic format or something proprietary. I've been happy with the preloaded maps, it isn't as high-fidelity as higher-end computers (some computers show points of interest) but all the roads and graphics are consistent. As far as the updated iGS630S I'm waiting to receive one to do a review on it - it certainty looks nicer.@@matthias-L

With GPS computers like this, you can just use them directly without speed sensors. It will compute distance, gradient, speed all from the GPS signal. Adding a speed sensor can improve accuracy but it isn't necessary unless you ride somewhere with a lot of GPS signal drop outs (forests / tall buildings).

Good question - battery life is always a tricky one. I suspect 35 hours means minimal interaction or navigation. In our riding, we were able to easily get about ~25 or so hours before it got to 20% battery remaining. You could likely get more, but I wouldn't recommend starting a long ride with a low battery.

iGPSPORT has had some major updates to the software since this review was published which address some of the issues. I haven't had a chance to use the latest but the release logs highlight improved navigation, start ride reminder, save ride page and separating record lap to a double click. All these changes should make it easier to use but I don't think the app will ever be as good as Garmin or even Bryton equivalents.

As someone who owned the Garmin Edge 830 and the Wahoo Elemnt ROAM v2, I could not disagree more. Even Garmin has to disagree with you, since they added the full button setup to the Garmin Edge 840 😅 Touch only GPS are a bad idea, the only place where touch is completely useful is navigation, and it becomes completely useless on rainy days as well, God forbid doing MTB and navigating with mud in your display. I sold the Garmin Edge 830 exactly because of this, doing MTB auto pause was constantly triggering in recurrent portions of my rides, if you set it up manual pause you have to tap on back every time you pause as soon as you pause or there will be a huge end activity in the center of your screen that requires no confirmation to end the activity that can easily (and did) trigger with a drop of water, sweat, mud, or even a missed touch of the display while using it. Blocking the display solves this issue, and now you cannot dismiss your notifications and other popups as the tap action is locked 😂 and you have to unlock the display to do so if you are looking at the map and these windows come up, as there is no physical back button 😅which is totally annoying if it's raining. Running the Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM v2 now, it is refreshing how the computer doesn't get in your way while you're using it 😅I agree I could do the same with the Garmin 840, and that's because now it has full button setup, so you can lock the display and use the buttons if you want, which is what I'd expect, but there is a lot of people like me that don't really need a touch display, and if the bike computer is well setup, to be honest is not really that much necessary.

A dedicated GPS computer (even one that requires syncing to a phone app to transfer data or setup routes) is worth using over a phone as they have better battery life, have a more compact form factors and are more affordable.
