Waters has been propped up by some fine guitarists over the decades, Gilmour, Beck, Clapton, Snowy White, the underrated Doyle Bramhall and now Dave joins that illustrious list.

Yeah the guy has probably had the best lineage of guitarists in his albums out of anyone ever. I think, for as perfectionist & prickly as everyone knows Waters can be, the prospect of playing with one of rocks finest songwriters is just impossible to say no to.

I also got goosebumps after Jonathan talked about Dave's playing style, because I know exactly what he's talking about. The first time I ever heard Dave Kilminster play the Have a Cigar solo back in 2005 (I think), I thought..."This guy is amazing!!"

Eric Roche, now there’s a legend. I hear his influence in a lot of young British acoustic players. I recently heard Mike Dawes do a version EVH’s Jump and I couldn’t resist commenting that it had all the hallmarks of Eric Roche. Mike got back to me instantly saying that Eric was a massive influence, sighting Eric’s Acoustic Guitar Bible book as being a huge factor in his development. I used to get Guitar Techniques every month, especially for the Guthrie and Eric lessons and articles. I clearly remember Eric’s last article where he signed off with a short passage about not being back for next month’s edition as something had come up. I didn’t really know what he meant at the time but remember reading on Ceefax that he’d passed. Were he still alive he’d be held in the same regard as Tommy Emmanuel with worldwide renown. I implore you all to go out and buy his acoustic book and his album ‘With These Hands’. Thankfully, I still have all my old GT magazines at my parents house and I still to this day learn from his stuff. He was a verifiable genius

Dave’s album ‘ …and the truth will set you free’ is a masterpiece. Met him a few times (including the time he came to a guitar festival that I staged in Northampton back in 2006, as his mates Guthrie and Phil Hilborne were amongst the performers - remember boozing with him and trying to get him to get up and play!) and he possesses a uniquely laconic conversational style. I think he’s one of the greatest guitarists in the world.

Ive been lucky to meet Dave a couple of times. Not that he'll remember of course 😂. First time was at the Bristol Bierkeller, Yngwie was playing there that night, and it wasn't long after DK had won the very first Guitarist Magazine's 'guitarist of the year' competition. That was a very brief meeting, not much more than just congratulating him on winning the competition, and a little natter about YJM. I think Guthrie won the second year. Then I got to meet DK again, a number of years later, at a small gig he was playing in South Wales with Qango, which also featured the late John Wetton, Carl Palmer and John Young. What a band, and what a gig that was. I got to meet all of the band that night, and DK was very approachable, personable, and generous with his time, just chatting about guitars, music in general and influences etc. He's a hell of a player, I absolutely loved it when he was part of John Wetton's live band, and the stuff he does with Steven Wilson. And he seems a genuinely nice guy too.

About the differences between the two fuzzes (37:53): it’s the silicon transistors (in the red pedal being used) vs. the germanium ones in the blue one.

This current tour Roger is on is not to be missed. The show is masterfully paced and executed! A sombrely dark atmosphere is set during the first hour as Roger comes out and sulks and broods about his father's death...gripping stuff indeed! There is a 15 minute intermission, then the second set completely changes the mood of the show as Roger comes out and proceeds to tell knee slappingly hilarious holocaust jokes for the next hour ("how many lampshades does it take to screw in a lightbulb"...) The only thing missing is a soaring David Gilmour guitar solo, but other than that do yourselves a favour people and get your tickets now!

Super down to earth and great guitarist… Saw him with Watters and he was great…. Can’t figure out how he needs 22 frets for a Gilmour solo though.
@errbt
@errbt Жыл бұрын
You've either never played the solo in Money then, or at least not played it correctly. The highest parts need at least a 22nd fret to be played accurately. In fact Gilmour actually used his 24 fret Bill Lewis Guitar to record the 2nd part of the solo when the highest notes are hit.

@Robstafarian
@Robstafarian Жыл бұрын
The output of those digital pedals is still going into an analog preamp, assuming they are running in the front, and their output settings might be used to push said analog preamp in some patches. If those digital pedals are in the loop, then your criticism has even less merit. Even if you were completely right and Dave is misguided, he has afforded the expense and is making art in a way that makes him happy; I wish you the same.
@jimtherevoltor
@jimtherevoltor Жыл бұрын
Steady on mate, I just find it interesting that lots of players say they only use analogue equipment as it sounds the best etc but then run it through what are basically computers to get reverb or delay tremolo whatever, that can be achieved using analogue gear. Let’s be realistic the final sound whatever way you look at it will always be heard digitally.

I was actually thinking that he looks a bit like he could be, but...Dave Kilminster, Lemmy Kilmister: different surnames, not related, despite an either intentionally fake or idiotic article that's circulating the interwebs claiming Dave is Lemmy's son. Lemmy's two sons are named Paul & Sean.

Stands to reason why Roger Waters hired a guitar player that didn't know who Pink Floyd was, wasn't sure who David Gilmour was or how he played. Pretty embarrassing really.
