Whilst I agree with much of Roger's politican reasoning and the gist of his argument, he is slightly naive on human rights and China. And I'd put to him the term 'passive aggression' which is something China has perfected. He said China has never invaded any country or taken part in any major conflicts: Tibet? Vietnam? Korea? China took over Tibet, an entire nation. Tibet didn't resist and not a single bullet was fired, but they took over a country by threat of force and began replacing its culture none the less. China was instrumental in the Korean war and has backed North Korea (one of the most evil regimes on earth that has zero human rights) to this day. Vietnam, China backed the Communists and fought a proxy war against the US along with USSR. China has an appalling human rights record in its own country. Millions died during the time of Chairman Mao. More recently, China has attacked its own Muslim community and puts thousands and thousands in prison camps or re-education camps to de-Islamify them. China promised to respect the independence and democracy of Hong Kong during the 1998-1999 hand-over from Britain, but has slowly erroded the rights of Hong Kong Chinese and even attacks or imprisons them when they protest so they now hold up blank sheets of paper, same as people do in mainland China. Taiwan is a democracy that wishes to be self-governed independent of China, but China is saying is must be re-unified with China by choice or by force. A basic fundamental human right is the right to self-determination of a people. The right to choose and elect a government. China doesn't hold to that principle. It's one of the countries that hasn't signed the Human Rights Charter. But all that said, even my own country the UK is far from perfect on human rights, despite being a founding signature to the UNHR Charter. People are imprisoned here for political incorrectness, wrong thinking or expression. Freedom of speech is restricted. Freedom of political association is restricted. Freedom of assembly and the right to protest is restricted. Just to different levels, but not unlike China in many ways if you go in a direction the government doesn't like. Roger is correct about the Russian Ukraine situation. Most people have absolutely no idea how, why or when this conflict started and the long diplomatic and legal struggle Russia went through before it got to the stage of Putin using full Russian military intervention on Ukraine. And I don't even think he even expected it to be a war. He expected no resistance and the government to fall quite quickly just by a show of overwhelming Russian force. His intelligence and calculations were flawed and things quickly spiralled out of control. Suddenly the Western world has turned on Russia and isolated it economically. Russia is now in a proxy-war with a US/Western NATO alliance basically, with Ukraine being used to fight a war on Russia for them. Ukraine is the battle-ground for a power struggle between the West and Russia, just as it was 170 years ago in the Crimean War. The path towards Russia deciding to take military action on Ukraine against a government it considered hostile to Russian people and Russia itself started right back in 2008 as Roger said. With limited intervention in Dombas using militias to back Russian separatists who were being supressed and killed. Then it escalated from there. The Minsk Agreements of 2014 and 2015 were a final diplomatic international attempt to resolve these issues between Ukraine and Russia, and the West brokered that and co-signed. In those agreements, Ukraine conceded that Crimea was part of the Russian Federation, respected the referendum of the majority ethnic Russian population to be identified as Russian nationals, and it addressed the Russian separatist problems in the three Dombas regions, that were being socially, politically marginalised and attacked by the Ukranian government. Both sides, Russia and Ukraine have breached the Minsk Agreements, but Ukraine more so in stating Crimea is part of Ukraine and they intend to take it by force, when they conceded it as Russian Federation territory in an international agreement and agreed to respect the referendum outcome. Crimea has been part of Russia for 199 years, Ukraine has absolutely no legal basis to claim Crimea is part of Ukraine. To Russia, that's a declaration of war on Russia itself. So why are people perplexed that Russia has such an anti-Western position and decided it had no option left but to take military action against Ukraine, a government that violated two international agreements, had become hostile towards ethnic Russian people and the Russian State itself? Russian tried to settle its issues with Ukraine by every diplomatic and legal way possible, and the West was part of that process, but is now arming Ukraine instead of saying, hold on, we had an agreement here, what went wrong, let's sit down and work this out...people talk about finding a peaceful resolution, there is one the Minsk Agreement II. If both sides just kept to their word and the international community kept to its word, the war could end. What Russia is asking for is not unreasonable.Yes it's gone too far and the Special Military Operation has gone completely out of control and nobody can excuse what Putin and Russia is doing, but they feel betrayed, ignored and supressed by the West who only follows the rule of law, and democracy when it suits their own interests...there's a very hypocritical double-standard going on by the West when it comes to Western democracy and interests, and Russia's. When it's Russia's interests, nobody cares. There is also still a lot of corruption in Ukraine. Even the current President has dubious involvment with a Russian company, and Ukranian Oligarch billionaires (yes they exist, but no news reports on that!) with tens of millions of dollars held by him and others close to him, using off-shore companies in tax-havens that hold multi-million pound properties in the UK and Europe. That may shock some people, but it's true. Google it. Everything isn't black and white, good guy, bad guy as the media presents it. They like to dumb-down things for the masses. Like Roger said, it's cause and effect. There's always a reason behind the effects, a history and a story. We're only seeing the effects and one side of the story. Why is the West keeping the war going in Ukraine and sending more and more arms? Why aren't they trying to make every effort to reach a diplomatic resolution with Russia? Why didn't this process start when the tanks were lined up before a single shot was fired? Why were France's efforts dismissed? We hear 'Russia must be defeated, its military degraded' over and over. How do you think Russian's feel hearing that? Are they likely to trust or like the West? Like Roger said, how would the US feel, if China started building up a global military coalition around the world and put nukes and military bases with 100,000 troops on the Mexico border and around the world by US interests? Look what happened when the USSR put nuclear missiles on Cuba, we very nearly had a nuclear WWIII! And yet Russia is expected to tolerate Ukraine becoming a NATO possibly nuclear armed state with an antagonistic government on its border, and Finland with a 1,000km border being another US base and NATO country? And people are alarmed when Russia re-assets its nuclear deterrent position. It's called nuclear threats and blackmail. Yet there are nuclear bases all over Europe with missiles pointed at Russia and nuclear armed submarines around Russia. The US conducted several nuclear tests in the Indian ocean, nobody said a thing. Russia tests a nuclear missile everyone is critical. If we want peace, we need to de-escalate tensions, not escalate them. Nearly everything the US and NATO does seems to esalate and create tensions. Everyone is an enemy or threat if they have a different style of government, but sadly the world isn't perfect and neither is the US itself. Is arming Taiwan helping ease tensions with China? Or sending spy planes over China and doing training exrcises in the South China Sea and putting the US navy fleets there helping China-US relations? Constant negative news about China and absurd stories about them being the number one threat, intent on taking over the world and their military exceeding the US in a few years...China is preparing to invade Taiwan real soon, when China says the opposite..it has no intention or desire to invade Taiwan, it seeks peaceful re-unification but must show its strength, capability and willingness to defend itself also, just as the US does, only right on China's doorstep. China's military won't achieve even parity with the US military until 2050 at the current levels even if the US military doesn't expand further, according to China. China doesn't want to be a military super-power to rival the US and has no global ambitions to challenge NATO. It just wants to be able to defend itself against a possible US/Western attack and protect its regional interests and space. That's China's official stated position, but that's not what's reported. The world isn't perfect and sadly not all countries respect human rights or the rule of international law fully. However using aggression to solve that won't make it better or the world safer. That's a lesson we've learned over and over. Look at the state of Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and many other countries now after decades of US-led regime changes. How many major regime changes has Russia been involved in by comparison post-USSR, or China? Who is the main global aggressor from the Russian, Chinese, India and North Korea prospective? Perhaps that's why they feel threatened, maybe they'll be next to be invaded! "if you want to understand the present situation, then look at past events. If you want to consider future outcomes, consider the present actions." - Buddhist wisdom.

We are a peace-generation, and of course, some see everything through the lense of Western fault. In this situation I see that the West is actually holding back a lot. The Russians also claim that they could do a lot worse. Keeping sane as an artist, not just showing off opinions is nevertheless a challenge these times. 28 minutes of the most intelligent teachings I ever endured. His mention of the charter of rights and freedom's and his focus on that specific rule of law has set my mind back on the sovereign path. If I were he, he'd be spreading that message all day long every day, because he has the audience, and if any of those people are really listening to the message of each song, instead of being there for any other reason, then he of all possible people would influence their futures and thus, change the course of history. Problem is when people of conflicting wishes do not step into the most crucial battle now: saving souls. This requires circumstancial alliances with opponents to restore the 1st amendment and equity in justice. After the left betrayed Assange, Musk is your last opportunity before an irreversible conclusion of the infamous mixture of 1984 and Brave New World. Open your eyes to the Twitter Files really. Mac Carthism is now produced by the anti Democrats in power and a leftist support through a Stockholm syndrom. I call them now the unten intellectuellat, negative IQ for profit. Profit is cash or social fear of not looking trendy. They do not see the obvious or think by themselves, they just replicate. The Patriot Act extended to a new fascist Stasi, with so many leftists, self claimed progressists, collaborating to their own prison, tracking who they think are "despicable" opponents instead of simply talk and listen with common decency. So a far away stranger is OK, but next door red or blue is The Enemy ? So if you are him who are you ? I am proud to remember every sound and second of Waters songs. I was a baby alone far away from the parents and knew the music by heart, extended them infinitely to survive to illness and loneliness. I could see and still remember detailed images and sounds of the universe depth and beauty. It touched me even deeper than those lads who created the music I feel now. Waters is close to truth but not enough. Thank God he exists though.

Thirdly take the Ukranians who have a long history of independence and have a right to self-determination, a right to defend themselves, who were invaded in a war of aggression by a despot who kills anyone who gets in his way for his own dream of recreating a state that fell apart because it was a fundementally flawed. @cristianconstantinescu72642 жыл бұрын
@0Jebus0 you discuss it from your perspective and I am a Romanian, so very much anti-Russian military, pro-NATO and all that. BUT, to be fair, if you look at the map, there is no coincidence about Georgia and Ukraine entering into talks with the West to join the NATO alliance. It is a strategy of the US to contain Russia, who is an autocracy/dictatorship, always was and has 50% of worlds nuclear weapons. Taiwan is also a similar case, where following the civil war in the 40's Chiang Kai-Shek retreated to that island with what was left of his army. That was an opportunity for US to have a ally right up China's (whatever body part you prefer). So you can see a strategy pattern here. When the Russians moved into Cuba, we all know what happened, it wasn't Mexico, was Cuba but was close enough (watch the map) and they had to get out with their missiles, otherwise threat of nuclear war was rampant. SO IT DOES MATTER THE GEOGRAPHICAL PROXIMITY. Russia being contained, as far as I am concerned, is a good thing, you cannot rely that a Russian dictator (in this case Putin) will not go bonkers with absolute power wanting to make history and nuke his enemies while in his 3 km underground 10 year survival bunker. This containment strategy makes it a lose-lose scenario for sure, with no certainty of being able to anihilate your opponent before he does. But Roger Waters looks from a humanitarian standpoint, thinking we can all be reasoned with and I believe this is where his mistake is. NOT ALL LEADERS CAN BE REASONED WITH. Some do go mad with having absolute power. Did that shade some light into your rethorical question?

@@shaund4978 The lie was originated from Mike Pompeo. If you didnt know what kind of a person he is, i suggest reading it up. His most famous quote as a former head of CIA is ”we lie, we steal, we cheat.” The Us State Department told Pompeo “no, its not true” after he told the lie. But i guess the government later decided to weaponize this lie. However, no country’s leaders recognizes the lie. It’s the western media and politicians who keep spreading the lie, but ask macron, trudeau, and biden. Even the far right morrison from Australia refuses to make an official statement about it. I wonder why. Also, any hard evidence? Like satellite images and stuff? Only empty talks and some “interviews” from people whose lies were debunked by their own families living in Xinjiang. Well, i think it would have been much easier if Chinese government held their families hostage to shut these “speakers” or “victims” up right? Also, when UN was voting on this issue, other than the US and its allies in the west, most of the countries in the world did not vote against China, including ALL the muslim countries. I mean, ALL OF THEM. China is the “iron brother” with Pakistan, which is a muslim country. China always speaks up openly for Palestine and openly supports their wish of forming a UN recognized country. In fact it’s the West and India who discriminate on muslims and muslims in India even fear for their lives. But you would never hear about it from wester msm. Now do you see that lots of things in the lie just dont add up? Also, urghurs are only half of the muslim population in China, every okay sized city has mosques and muslim population. I suggest you go and see for yourself, and ask chinese muslims and Uyghurs directly. Don’t believe in western msm ( I thought it’s pretty obvious by now). Go see for yourself.
