It's always a little weird to me that Spielberg tries to be "relevant" when he's known for having some of the most timeless films ever made... Close Encounters, ET, The Goonies... The man clearly knows how to make movies that reach people on a personal level, he should know that he doesn't need to be "relevant." I completely agree with you. I mean, not just some of the best popcorn movies--Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones ("Raiders" and "Last Crusade" at least, imo), Close Encounters like you said--but also his serious movies: Empire of the Sun, Saving Private Ryan, etc... not to list all his WW2 films, but Schindler's List is probably my all time favorite of Spielberg's. That ending always gets me, one of the few movies that can genuinely bring a tear to my eye.

@That'sweird101 the movie had way too many characters to focus on, which even if the movie did as well as it could, it's still an issue. Thanos isn't very interesting, which would be fine since superhero movies tend to have pretty bland bad guys, but about a 3rd of the movie is dedicated to Thanos. Dr Strange letting quill fuck up the plan because "it was the only way" is easily the most horseshit excuse to force a sequel of all time. I also find Bullshit how you're supposed to feel bad when the snap happens, I mean, no one important died, the only one important worth a damn who died in that snap was spidey, but it was already announced there would be a 2nd spiderman movie...which means that out of all the deaths, loki's is the only one that mattered(I also aknowledge that quill and doc strange also died, but they where both ruined for me by the end of the movie and they're also coming back). Coincidentally, none of the core avengers died. No one developed all that much either, this felt more like a special event or a gimmick than a film. Which means that if you missed the others, you're basically blindfolded to what's going on. Shure, you could say that was the whole point of the thing, but let me ask you, did you watch "Thor: The crap world"? I had the misfortune of expiriencing that awful movie, but no body I went with recognized the aether. Also, wasn't drax the only survivor of his species? If that's the case, doesn't that mean he cannot be killed by the snap because killing him means eradicating an entire specie?

"They Shall Not Grow Old" is an incredible film. The fact that they use actual interviews with veterans and people who directly experienced the war to narrate it really drives the nail home for me. It sets it apart from other war documentaries. This is the kind of film that should be shown in schools to give students an insight into the horrors of life in the trenches during the Great War.

Bad Times at El Royale was my favourite film of the year. Extremely well acted by everyone. It wasn't a complicated story, it was just these people coincidentally meet each other at this place and their stories intertwine with each other and then them dealing with what's happening. The flashback parts in it were very very well done IMO. It was like we were seeing the characters thinking then sometimes they'd mention what they were thinking after the flashback, but edited down to like one sentence. Instead of the stereotypical dialogue were its just the other character knows everything about that person in a matter of seconds. It was just so well and just has to be seen.

The rules made perfect sense. You peoppe just didnt pay attention. The criminally insane can look at the monsters and they will go crazy and try to get you to look at them. This was explained at the supermarket with the Black guys co worker, and when the guy said the people escaped the local Insane Asylum

He EXPLICITLY states that the servants forced his eyes open to view the creatures, which means that he went insane but his friends didn't. Weird, guess it's just kind of random. What about the creatures, can they actually interact with the real world, or can't they? It makes sense that they can't interact with the real world, since they can't enter boarded up buildings... but wait, if they can't interact with the real world, then how come they can beat around a car that the characters use to drive to the super market? Maybe they can interact with the real world... but if that's the case, why didn't they take off the blindfolds of the kids and Sandra Bullock's characters in the forest just to drive them to suicide? Youd have to assume, that either the lone survivor was one of the insane people who forced others eyes open (His plethora of drawings) or he had Latent Criminal Insanity that was driven for due to looking at the monsters. Idk about the 2nd thing you brought up, in the book the monsyers just showed up and started walking around. They werent malicious and they could go into any soace that didn't have a barrier infront of it, like a door or barricade. The beings werent wind creatures. They were physical beings that Humans just couldnt comprehend.

I actually think the new Halloween was fantastic. The only problem I had was the focus on the teenagers. Aside from Laurie’s granddaughter there was way too much time given and even a little too much for her. The soundtrack, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis killed it) and Michael Myers were top.
