My Army father was stationed in Hawaii in the mid-1970’s, and I was sooo lucky to take hula lessons then (I was in 5th grade), and dance regularly with our group in Oahu. I still have my pu’ili…and some other things. I’ve never heard the tips of how to store them. I’m going to put cardboard tubes on them, and make a bag very soon. This was such a great video. I’m enjoying your videos, and having fun doing some hula again with your videos… at my now 60 years old. Mahalos. This makes me want to go through the photos I have from that time so I can see my teachers again through those photos. 🤙

I came on here, as James Horner (composer of Titanic, Avatar, etc.) used "Pu'ili Sticks" in his action cue for the, "Master Alarm" scene from the film, "Apollo 13." Interesting! As a composer/conductor myself, I am always up for learning about new instruments.

Aloha, I really like this a lot. Unfortunately, I do not own a set of pu'ili. I may get one in the near future but I'm not sure yet. I do have the ipu and a set of ili'ili. I just recently received an uli'uli for my birthday back in July. I look forward to the time when you do you show us how to play the uli'uli. I love all of the things you're doing so far.

How might one fix a rattly puʻili stick (splinters are too far apart) or one where the splinters come together too tightly?

I think it may be better to just get a new pair. Donʻt think these are "fixable" as they are bamboo.
