The "cows are good for the land" argument is pretty horrendous coming from an American. "We drove the native herbivores - and the native ethnic groups who relied on them - to near-extinction, used their land to farm an invasive species, but it's totally necessary for us to keep doing it because tHe LaNd nEeds hErBivOres".

The same issue in the Uk too. Vast swathes of the UK particularly in Scotland, Wales and the south west of England are poor scrubland only suitable for sheep farming they say….totally ignoring the fact that our ancestors cut down all the forests there hundreds of years ago to build houses and ships and didn’t plant replacements.

Nevermind that feeding billions of animals food that isn't natural to them forces them to wreck the atmosphere we all need. Their hooves, poo, and grazing habits destroy the land underneath them (see: rainforest deforestation and soil decimation) and their farts destroy everything else, lol. I researched this for a college paper; commenters, if you must eat animal products, eat anything but cows! Out of the entire agricultural industry, cow farms are the most destructive by a landslide. (Sheep are slightly worse, so don't turn to exclusively lamb instead, but thankfully we don't farm them to the scale we do cows [yet].)

Being Native American myself, I am not getting what you are saying. One does not correlate to the other. Just as there were wars on open or closed ranges. Sheep farmers vs cattle ranchers, as well. The buffalo was killed to make it harder for the Natives to thrive. They also are not as easily "farmed" as the cattle the Europeans brought with them. So they had to go. It's all about who has power at the time and who is coming up in the ranks.

@@alexk3310so are you proposing we exterminate cows? It's not like they have natural predators, and they apparently destroy everything they touch, if we would stop using them for consumption in controlled areas and just set them out into the wild freely, wouldn't that be a disaster for the land and eco systems? Domestic animals are now invasive species everywhere as their name implies, they are bred specifically for human needs.

One critisism i have is that you can still have regenerative agroculture/agroforestry without animal agroculture. It is true that in many aspects that agroforestry/regenerative agroculture is way better than the factory farming + monocrop cultures, but you can totally have a plant-based food system that is combined with a way of agroculture that uses crops in a way that go *with* nature rather than *against* nature What i dont like is the assumption that she or anyone else for that matter, is that if anyone criticises this technocratic way of monocrop industrial farming in way to wrongly critise veganism doesnt invalidate what critisisms there are of the current way of producing crops. I strongly think that regneretive agroculture and a plant-based diet can totally work together in mutual benefit and harmony, we just have to actually start doing it.

I also need shoes that can cope with the cold and rain. Plastic isn't a good option because it doesn't mold to your feet. It also degrades quickly. Plant leathers are rarely water proof, and in addition they're not available in actual products I can physically buy in my country. Canvas is great in Summer, but useless in Winter. I'm British. That means it's useful for about a week each year if I'm lucky. Goretex is a forever chemical and not great for the environment. I’m vegan for health reasons. I’m allergic to casein from bovines specifically and dairy milk is in EVERYTHING. It’s easier to avoid dairy being vegan and I just feel better. I love animals and the planet, so it makes me happy knowing I’m not contributing to something dying or suffering. Thank you for this! Blair is insane for trying to blame climate change on veganism. Not only is she terrible for what she’s done to other people, but she’s so poorly researched. I wonder if her staff is quitting, I wouldn’t blame them at all if they did. Thank you SO MUCH for your well researched, informative, and well done video! 🙌

My degree is in rangeland ecology with a focus on restoration. A lot of what I studied was how to balance grazing animals, wildlife, human recreation, and conservation. I‘ve also spent a lot of time with ranchers around the US for work. While it is true that *sustainable* grazing can be part of a balanced rangeland ecosystem, it’s not the only way to balance it. Additionally, the vast majority of livestock raised for food are not grazing and it’s just a cope for meat eaters to act as if their burger was exploring the rangelands before it ended up on their plate.

Can you make a video about forever chemicals or PFAS? PFAS, which stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, have been linked to cancer and other health problems in humans. They are called "forever chemicals” because they don't degrade in the environment and remain in the bloodstream. They are found more prevalently in meats and a lower level in fruits.

Tvp is one of the cheapest high protein products where I am & I use it wherever I would use mince. Bolognese, chillis, savoury mince, curries. I've been getting into chole chaat too lately: simple chickpea salad with tamarind, served with soy milk soured cream/raita & pitta, chapattis or the lentil crepes. And chickpea tuno mayo is on pretty heavy rotation atm too, to fill sandwiches, jackets or to add to pasta salads. How about you?

I think Cruel World, Happy Mind said it best that Iilluminaughtii makes videos on everything with a negative light to the point where Cruel World stated something to the likes of "Should I be afraid of going to my dentist?" The problem with Iilluminaughtii is that she pumps out so many videos in a matter of 1 week. I feel that this hampers the qualities of her videos even before the crap hit the fan with the Sad Milk accusations. I also feel like that "How to Cook That" steps out of her lane and covers stuff that she knows nothing about. As such, I feel that this is per the norm with KZbinrs as they tend to want to branch out or expand their horizons by reinventing themselves. What I mean is "How to Cook That" is covering stuff that she isn't an expert of. It is like how Doctor Phil was giving advice on COVID-19 several years ago. Even Blair reinvented herself from making fun of social justice warriors to reading reddit stories, and finally plagarising documentaries for her video essays.

This is physically and mentally hurting me... I was trying to debunk one thing and then another thing pops out. The fact people still believe that vegans are desteoying the planet by eating almonds and avocados is bad enough, considering how uh idk there are more peole in the world who ARE NOT vegan who eat MORE avacados/almonds by simple math alone, and thats not even consideirng the vegans who consume one or the other or neither 🤪 welcome to WackyWorld! And how animal agriculture has to feed those billions of animals plants and aren't fed fairy dust and smiles like the meat/dairy/egg industry would have you believe. 🧚‍♀️ But, the pleather thing... first off "pleather" is already a dated term. And sure if you are using PLASTIC leather that relies on fossil fuels, probably not the best choice. However, there are a plethora of PLANT based leathers that are better for the environment and not a product of cruelty... I'm sorry my brain has physically left me at this point and I'm on autopilot so things are just escaping me. This is the equivalent of saying "well if you don't eat a burger made from an animal a certain plant based burger brand is also not good for the environment" oh yeah, well thats cool how about not needing to eat that brand of plant based burger and make your own plant based burgers or just eat... something else!? Yes mom I'll be there in a minute. Yes mom, I'm still in WackyWorld... love you too... yeah, idk even bringing up pleather seems silly and dated it's like saying "coloring your hair with this worse than what I use" well, maybe they're both not good but that's why I use...plant based hair dye? It's like you're playing Uno and someone gives you a draw 4 thinking they've got you and the others also have draw 4s until it comes right back to tou, and now you have to draw 12. "How dare you vegans drive cars?" Well...don't you? And some of us don't and we walk, take the bus, and/or drive more economically friendly vehicles. I caaaan't I'm so done.

If all livestock were exclusively raised on byproducts that are not edible to humans and truly unfarmable pasture I honestly wouldn't object to it on environmental grounds it would be a limited practice to get food from resources that wouldn't otherwise produce food. We would only be able to produce a fraction of current animal product output in that scenario though so it is a moot point unless animal product consumption drops significantly.

I will not lie, it was very hard to get through this video. The debate of Vegan versus Omnivorous diets is one that has only gotten worse and worse over time. For a lot of people who enjoy meat/animals (like myself) a lot of research goes into what animals need and what can and cannot harm them. The thing is, I also have a few sensory issues; so certain meat-based products (such as certain hot dogs, sausages, cold cuts, and ground meats) are a no-go for me. Out of a sense of curiosity, I turned to vegan sausages and quite like them. They texture and flavor are quite good, and I only have one real problem that I think a lot of vegan overlook: The thin, clear plastic casing. Yeah, the casing is more of the issue for me than anything else, as well as the argument of "pesticides and herbicides are never going away". They can and should, especially if it betters the local ecosystem/waterways. I, personally, have learned of a lot of deterrents thanks to doing wildlife rehab. Trust me when I say, it’s bad when squirrels start eating hot peppers. As for the idea that people don’t need meat: that is false. We are omnivores, and even if we weren’t we’d likely still indulge in meat every once in a while for the nutrients within. Having said that, humans are obsessed with this vague notion of health and believe cutting out red meat will solve it. Here’s another thing I learned from being a rehabber: Most animals can’t eat pork, lamb, or chicken breast. Pork and Lamb is self-explanatory; it’s too tough. But, why not chicken breast? Well, because it’s what’s known as a washed meat. Basically, it’s so scrubbed clean that it has very little nutrients left. So, while it’s good for losing weight, it’s not good as a source of food. And that’s only looking at greenhouse gasses produced by the product, not taking into account machinery, water required, of various other “drugs”/”medicines” (for lack of understanding what to call it). The fact of the matter is, there’s VERY strict rules on what you can and can’t do with animals, from housing, to food, to water, to enrichment, to medication, to how long you keep it alive (source: I’m a wildlife Rehabber in America, currently involved in sorting out an animal hoarding case. Why is a wildlife rehabber involved in a hoarding case? Take a wild fucking guess.) These things are much more relaxed with plants though. Honestly, I have lost more rabbits to contaminated lettuce than I have any other animal to improper care. So imagine what happens to all the food waste that either gets left on the side of the road, unwashed, and with full-strength pesticide/herbicide on them. But, more to my main point: The reason it's so complicated is because of how we process modern-day food. Truth be told, meat versus veggies is not the argument, it should be an argument of sourcing. Meat from a hunted animal is notoriously better than meat from a domesticated animal; and vegetables/fruits grown in your backyard are notoriously better than those from the supermarket. No matter how you slice it, humans are omnivores and require both. Add to that: True Vegan/herbivore species are incredibly rare. You may think squirrels, rabbit, birds, and deer are herbivores, but they're actually what's known as an "facultative herbivore". This means that, while most of their diet does consist of vegetation, they do sometimes eat meat. Deer will sometimes eat baby birds, rabbits will sometimes eat their own young, squirrels will eat eggs, and many birds start eating bugs in the spring to feed their young. Sorry, I went on a rant. As you can tell, animals are my passion, and I know of only two obligate herbivore birds (Birds that absolutely can't eat meat): Doves and pigeons. If a dove or a pigeons does "eat" an egg, what they're after is the shell (which has calcium) rather than the yolk. Sorry this is so long.
