IITs are as much as to blame for the mushrooming of coaching classes, when they changed their examination format from subjective. which was common till late nineties. Students who get in definitely have concepts, clarity and problem-solving skills, but there would be many that focus on hacks, eliminations, hook and crook to get answer, attempted similar prob and mug up intermediate results to plug in values for quick solving as taught to them by these commercial houses.

Have seen so many videos on parental counseling, this one stands out the best overall. Professor has given such a clarity to parents and i am sure if this video had gone viral many talented children could have explored new possibilities in their lives. Finally Professor, your tone and politeness explaining it is truly a class apart.

Excellent video and message Professor. I have personally seen few parents, who boast that their child is going to jee coaching as early as class 6. They make it as a proud element, for them to boast. And this Return on investment point, well said Professor. People should trust the process, rather than only aiming at the result. One of my close family member just finished MBBS in NRI quota in a private medical college. So you can imagine the amount of fees, that they would have paid. Next they are planning for MD seat. So her parents are now truly worried about the ROI aspect, about when she can start earning it all back. This is such an enlightening video for parents, if at least one of them changes their approach, towards their child, that would be really amazing.

Sir, with due respect to your opinion, I would like to share my experience in the industry, I work at one of the more cherished software organizations ( or so I would imagine). Engineering entrance examinations have at least a ladder-like approach, if you fail in old IITs, you may make it to the newer IITs, if not then NITs, and there are a few handful of state engineering colleges which also are still worth pursuing an Engineering degree from( I studied in one of them). After this, even if you bachelors from, even if you wake up late in life, you still get a chance to correct your pathway through say GATE or GRE. Even if you fail there, there are umpteen chances to interview prove your mettle, and work yourself up the ladder once you get yourself out in the job market. A senior architect in my organization is not an IITian or not from any college of repute. Needless to mention, he guides a lot of IITians. Many of the professors in IIT KGP itself do not hold a bachelor's degree from the IIT. My Uber point is that, unlike some other entrances like UPSC, which does not really have a fallback option or a redemption route, engineering offers umpteen chances to fail and rise. It is not a 10-year race, 10 years is the time to get to the starting point, then the real race begins. It's an unfair analogy to compare engineering with a niche skill like cricket or acting or politics, where it is all or nothing.

Hey sir thank you for uplading this video and providing a different perspective on this journey, I am an 11th grader. I too aim to go to top colleges like IITs but the problem I am facing is that I joined a local class near my home (integrated) the faculty is good but everything else is not that good like tests,etc. Many of my friends are going to top highschools and some of them even achieved national achievements through the high school opportunities. I had to take an integrated clg i.e only practicals. The studies is starting to feel like pressure. I am scoring good in classes but idk if ill be able to get in IITs / the biggest concern for me is what if I don't get into IITs and have a guilt that my 2 years of highschool will also wasted

Sir, I watch your videos since a very long time and I am currently in 8th standard, my parents have mentioned or regarded no such pressure in context of my education but as a student, I am often worried about my own. I want to do well in few of the olympiads like (RMO, NSEJS, and senior olympiads in future). Much to my dismay, coaching doesn't help me in these cases rather you have to prepare it yourself and I am completely fine by that. I have contemplated much if I want to continue coaching or not, this stems from the fact that when I try to prepare myself for such olympiads, I get a lot of doubts, I have followed your suggestion to understand the topics on my own, and I try to do that, still I get hindrance. (For example, some topics of Inorganic Chemistry is where I get stuck on). The teachers at my coaching don't really teach anything "extra" as in such but they are always ready to clear my doubts. In future, neither do I want any high paying job nor I really have dreams getting into an IIT. Rather I want to do something in the field of Science, I am still not a cent percent sure that if I should continue my coaching. My only question will be, should I be doing these olympiads completely with my own resources and knowledge, or try from coaching? Please Sir, help me in this regard of my choices. (I am really sorry if this is somewhat not related to the video but I would be grateful for your advice.)

Bro there are many channels teaching Olympiad level content on KZbin. I would suggest you to study from those channels, parallel to coaching (since you have more time). Also some great books are there, like Feynman lectures on physics etc.

Sir, with all due respect I think it is very difficult to crack the jee exam without coaching. We may try dreaming about a future where students are able to crack JEE without any coaching, but that will be a fantasy. If the JEE council decides to change the exam pattern the coaching institutes will simply change their coaching strategy and nothing will change. I think at this point it is beyond repair. This is because IITs are famous for all wrong reasons. The only reason an 'IIT an' is considered a GENIUS, is not because they proved a long standing theorem in mathematics or did some groundbreaking research in science, but just because they cracked a difficult exam!! Further, there is a strong trend among undergraduate students to go for high paying jobs that requires no application of the advanced things they know. The only way we can change this trend is to stop hyping IITs because of difficult entrance exams and start judging them based on the original research being carried out. This will also promote a trend within the undergraduate students to go for research and do something truly groundbreaking rather than graduating with a high paying finance job and bragging about it for the rest of their life.

I'm sorry for my ad-hoc comments before watching your video. I just repeated a lot of the things that you said. But still I think this doesn't invalidate my points. The caliber of top institutes should be judged on the basis of original research they carry out and not because of how high of a wall you have to cross to get into it. Moreover, I think a lot of important innovations from our institutes get overshadowed by placement statistics because that's what most people care about. The purpose of IITs, as perceived by an average Indian is not to advance human knowledge but rather to fetch the students high paying jobs. I think sadly, this mentality is not going to change soon. By the way, I am someone with average mathematical and scientific caliber and my prophetic abilities are even worse. So I could be completely wrong in my assessment. I would like to know your thoughts.

It's difficult to know what one's abilities are at young age. There are "aptitude tests" that can be taken to try and identify what qualities a person has. Be careful to go to experienced people while taking the test though. There are many incompetent companies who care more about making money (with tieups with coaching centres) than guiding students correctly. We can say it's more a bent of mind or Qualities at most. Someone may be physically active or intellectually active from a young age. Others may develop these abilities over time. So as such there's no real test which says that you can only do X and not Y activity. When you put your Qualities to WORK then they become Abilities (able to do something) because now you know that you're able to DO X activity. And that you LIKE doing that activity as more than a time pass.

If economy opens up and reforms are done then there will be surge in job market, eventually ALL fields will benefit and grow in job availability. We've already seen this with 1992 reforms. Today's economy is what it is because of that and whatever reforms took place since then. Both State and Central govt have to reform obsolete laws and policies from colonial and socialist times. The day that happens we will start seeing the change in job market. It'll be gradual but solid change as different reforms take effect. India has grown and continuing to grow on world stage economically. So hopefully we can hire that these reforms go through and improve for our children in coming decade.

@Prof_JC11 ай бұрын
If your son is growing up in the UK, I don't think it would be a good idea for him to come back and study in India. The main reason is social. He is already adjusted to a certain mode of teaching, schooling, friendship. If that is suddenly changed, it will be a frustrating experience for him. And, actually in the UK, too, competition is very high if your son targets Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial.
