Hi Srboljub. Thanks for all of your great Reviews. Guess what?! My Verum 2's in Kickstarter green are arriving soon. 😃 So right now I'm browsing for a Headphone amp only (I have an SMSL VMV D1SE DAC) from 700 - 1000 dollars. I think I've narrowed it down to the Aune S17 Pro. My only hesitation is that it might be too powerful for a 12 ohm headphone, or is that a non issue? The reason I ask is that I haven't seen a planar headphone as low as 12 ohms to compare them with.

Even though the price in Kickstarter is tempting, it makes me wonder if probable/ possible added customs taxes, fees etc. will amke overall price worth it over some of it's less expensive competitors that are available in the EU (where i live). @iiWiReviews7 ай бұрын
To my ears, they sounded just slightly leaner in the bassline with these other pads. The difference was smaller than I expected but yes I did prefer the ones with bass reflex. Maybe Verum could make a suede version with BR ports too if enough people show interest in something like that.

I have the Verum 1 mk2's. I think the design and sound are excellent, and I was very interested in Verum 2. But not anymore. Let me say at the outset that I agree with you about "the controversy", and your not applying what you referred to in one of your replies below as "selective righteousness" - there's a great phrase! But problems with “the man” in this case are not limited to tasteless comments or un-evolved cultural sensibilities; and unfortunately, the furor over that has effectively distracted from more salient problems, which I do think you should be addressing in your reviews. A number of reviewers have covered these issues, but with such petty, arrogant, over-the-top harangues, that it was them I rejected, not Verum, particularly when they disparaged its sound and design, whose excellence your reviews, amongst many others, attest to. In fact, it was your review that convinced me to buy them. But as far as elements of quality control, customer service/support, and Igor’s forthrightness are concerned, the haranguers turned out to be quite accurate in my experience, and a sober review of those factors might have kept me from buying the Verums, which, for me anyway, was a mistake. To wit: My phones cut out when the cables are just slightly stressed; and they have a cosmetic defect that makes them seconds quality merchandise. On the cosmetic issue Igor said 'sorry 'bout that', and made a ridiculous excuse about bad lighting during power cuts because of the war, but ignored my request for remediation. On the intermittency issue, after a runaround that only ended when I sent him videos of the problem, he said it was because of the cables he sent me, which have straight plugs to the earpieces instead of the "proper" right-angle ones he says do not cause the problem. So why did he send me the wrong ones? Are you ready? Because he *ran out* of the right ones! No note about it - nothing, apparently hoping he'd just get away with it. Said he'd send me a replacement "soon", when he was "able to get the parts". Meanwhile, I've read comments from people he had sent replacement cables to for the same reason, and they didn't solve the problem, or at least not completely. And why should the jacks have a problem with straight plugs anyway? Anyone have a problem like that with anything you own? The upshot is that there are apparently no cables on the market with right-angle jacks on the phones end, so I will have to have expensive replacement/balanced cables custom made, to ameliorate what is apparently a design or implementation defect that Igor will not acknowledge. [UPDATE: Uh huh. I just received the custom cable I ordered with the right-angle plugs, and the right side no longer cuts out; but the left side still does. So we may conclude that, while Igor may be a brilliant audio electronics wiz, his handiwork is the problem here, along with the attendant consideration for other people.] Finally, as you know, these are unusual, 8 ohm phones, the Verum 2's are only a tad higher at, I think, 12 ohms, and they really want power on the order of 1W minimum to reach their potential, for which, as you have clearly pointed out, you will need a DAC/amp. (Not that they don't sound very good with less power - they do; but 350/400 is rather a lot to pay at that rate.) You've mentioned a few pairings, but there are precious few reasonably priced DAC/amps out there that have even been tested at less than 16 ohms, so it would be nice if the headphone manufacturer at least pointed you in the right direction here; but there's nothing on the web site, and emailing him only gets you the most perfunctory responses. So buying these is the 1st step in a miserable process of searching for an appropriate amp and custom balanced cable that don't take you to the cleaners. The bottom line is that they are really not such a bargain - not if you're likely to get seconds quality, and have to humiliate yourself chasing this guy around like some supplicant to a wayward adolescent, for an unacceptable level of service and support. Not to mention the high extra costs. He expects you to take what you get as long as they work, and dodges as much as he can with the excuse that he's a one-man company in a war zone, as if those were irremediable things. (Get a generator? HIRE someone? That is, of course, if he hasn't long since done both.) Like many if not most of his customers, I was motivated to support the effort, especially under the terrible circumstances; but now I feel like I fell for what may be one of the cleverest marketing/liability-avoidance schemes ever devised.

I would go with D50 III and A50 III combination for example. These are powerful, great drive, not lean or harsh, so it would be a good combination. Verum 2 can scale with even better DACs and AMPs but this is a solid base I could live with comfortably.

It seems to me that people mistake promoting a product with reviewing it. I don't speak out for the brand or for the man behind it and his character. I reviewed the product and its performance. Anything else is on you and your personal moral compass. I don't do background checks on any brand I review and I'm not planning to start - I don't have the means or will to be honest here. Try and dig some dirt on any of your favorite brands and see what happens. Big corporations often do really shity things that literally hurt people's health or worse, yet we still drive our cars, eat our cereals, type comments on our phones, and wear our clothes... without doing a deep dive into all these brands. But yeah, let's crucify Verum for some tasteless comments - easy points for us.

@iiWiReviews8 ай бұрын
Hi. I can see there's some controversy surrounding the owner of the brand but I'm reviewing the product, not the man. So I reviewed them and compared them with other relevant products honestly like I do every time. If a product has a problem I will say it, for the man behind it I don't care really. I don't do checks every time I buy clothes if they're made in a sweatshop. I don't do it for smartphones and other stuff either. Try to dig some dirt for any brand and you're going to find it. Big corporations do truly awful shit and get away with it. For example, I reviewed Apple DAC dongle not talking about their shady, anti-consumer, and anti-repair practices, or working conditions in their Asian factories... So I'm not going to start doing that with Verum just because the owner made some tasteless comments in the past. I don't do selective righteousness that way. But once again, if a product itself has a problem or simply sounds bad, be sure you'll hear about it.
