I use the IK Multimedia Uno Synth. It's my first synthesiser so I have nothing to compare it with. I paid 209 Canadian dollars for it and it's very powerful. Has a very hot signal so I'm often playing with volume levels on my mixer. I love that it's portable and can accept midi in/out and has an AUX in and AUDIO out. I love it. Just like I love this video and am going to be getting the Uno Drum soon as I am looking for a drum machine and don't have a large budget. Great video.

Great review here. The IK website actually has a great demo of the preset sounds under the heading audio. Personally, I much prefer its sound to the Drumbrute which I messed around with a little bit ago. Could not get a satisfactory snare sound no matter how much I fiddled. I'm sure the UNO DRUM will get a firmware update that will allow you to load your own samples, I think they will sell a lot more with this feature available.
@PaulGBass5 жыл бұрын
I bought this last week. I think it sounds great. I have been connecting the MIDI out from this to the MIDI in on my Drumbrute Impact (yet to try with the original Drumbrute), for the kick into the left channel of my interface (also using KT1176 compressor on the kick) and the rest into the 2nd channel on the 2 channel interface. This bypasses the single dual mono audio limitation that so many have complained about and allows me to have the same kick on channel 1, other percussion sounds on channel 2 combo that I normally have.

Still thinking about this along with my SKULPT. I have a Drumbrute Impact already...I kind of enjoy the sound of this with the limitations of one output, as I typically use an EQ on a single output rather than massaging my drums individually. And considering that my first 909 sounds were Emu Emax samples...12 bit doesn't scare me off...
@PaulGBass5 жыл бұрын
You could do what I do, link it up to the Drumbrute Impact for the bass/kick drum via midi out on the Uno to midi in on the Arturia. I have made one track so far using this combination and recorded into a two track UR22 interface. One track is just the Kick from Drumbrute (triggered by the Uno) the other the rest of the sounds from the Uno Drum itself. All my other tracks use the same concept but entirely from one of either of my Drumbrutes. I actually thought the Drumbrute impact kick/ Uno analogue/pcm combo sounded better than either Drumbrute split this way on their own

Great overview and review as always. This looks like a fun machine, but the video helped me decide it's not for me. About noise - I have an UNO Synth, and it was still a bit noisy with all the updates installed, especially when powered over USB. However, I bought a ground loop isolator (basically an audio cable with a transformer in the middle) and it completely cleaned up the signal. Not bad for a €15 investment.

Works fine on batteries here. Just to be sure, check that the batteries are fresh and correctly inserted. Also keep in mind that the power switch needs to be in the middle position to operate on batteries. If that still doesn't work, I'd contact IK, maybe you have a faulty unit...

I know this isn't the right place to ask for help on the UNO Drum, but...When I attach my new UNO drum to my Windows 10 PC with the included USB cable, the Editor just sits on "Waiting for UNO" with no response. I have tried several different MIDI settings in the Editor, including setting the MIDI input channel to 1 and the output to 10 or other channels. I've tried the setting the MIDI sync to USB; tried the Send PC and Receive PC to ON. Nothing makes the Editor recognize the UNO Drum. IK has not responded to two help requests. WHAT SETTINGS WORK ON THIS DEVICE?

Cheers Bo, nice review. Can I suggest the Korg Electribe2S as an alternative? £50 more but really rather good as a drum machine if you can live with the sequencer. The Uno is very nice. Tried it in person and it’s fun and intuitive. But, there’s something about the Drumbrute Impact that keeps drawing me towards it. It’s got the “it” factor that the Uno lacks, imo.

Great review - as always Mr. Beats 🍮 I'm guessing there's no trig conditions but that you can clock it from midi or use it to clock other devices? Would have been nice to hear it playing with a mono synth through the imput - but there's only so much you can do in 30 mins eh? Maybe using the UNO DRUM in jam video is possible at some point? 🍓

I assume I can MIDI sequence the Uno DRUM with my MPC. Please correct me if wrong I was gonna get a drumbrute but this looks promising
@jc3drums9165 жыл бұрын
The UNO Drum is closer to the DrumBrute Impact than the Volcas, price-wise. If IK weren't going to (or couldn't) put individual outputs on it, maybe they could have made it true stereo with a Pan control per voice. That's one thing about the Volca Sample I appreciate over the other two Volcas (and the UNO). It's nice not having the entire drum kit dead center in the stereo field. In roughly the same price range as the UNO and Impact, the Twisted Electrons Deton8 looks really fun, but it also lacks individual outputs and panning. If I were in the market for something better than my Volca Sample, I'd probably get a Tanzmaus. Too bad it's a rather large price jump.

depends on you: Drumbrute=all analog, a bit more sound design capabilities, DEDICATED OUTPUTS... filter onboard BUT no parameter locking and first of all, incredible but true, its name is 'Drumbrute but no brute factor (i wrote to Arturia guys and told them they are retarded). Unodrum: hybrid analog/digi but for now no user sample load, NO dedicated outs, less sound design but more FXs and parameter locking Elektron style, lastly it is lighter than DBrute... In conclusion IMMO if in your country prices are almost the same, i'd go for the Brute...

Nice review, I especially like the improvements with the sequencer (over what the Uno Synth does). On that topic how well do the two pair together - can the Uno Drum sequence the Uno Synth and use all of it's 64 steps/song mode? On the Uno Synth the sequences are stored within the presets (ie 1 per preset), and looking under the hood at the actual data in the 'unosyp' files it looks pretty flexible in the way it stores parameter changes/etc. I wonder whether a "Sample Swap" feature could be 'hacked' into an Uno Drum preset/sequence file.

It's a really capable drum machine but the mono out and lack of panning kills it in my opinion. Damn this is actually really tempting. I've been having a tough time deciding what first drum machine to get. On the one hand, the kick, FM drum and price of the Drumbrute Impact seem unbeatable, but I'm put off by the lack of a nice clap (I don't really like the pseudo snare/clap). The TR8 has the advantage of more variety in sounds but I already have good 808/909/707/727 samples, and it's a bit large. The original Drumbrute has my favourite sounds out of the box but is the most expensive and is even bigger than the TR8. ...Meanwhile this little guy beats all of them on small form factor. Is the cheapest. Has as much variety as the TR8. Has a nice clap. ...and I really like the sound out of the box. ...And it has automation on top of that?! And is battery powered? And has complete midi implementation? FM stuff? Really cool stutter effects? Control all? The others are more hands on and have individual outs, but that feels like small sacrifices to pay for everything else. Think I may have to grab one. Thanks for the review!
