It's only fitting that my first video of 2022 is of the last couple that stole my heart in 2021. I could write an essay about how much I love them, about how deep Ikaris' love for her goes to the point where he sacrificed the most meaningful relationship he ever experienced to preserve the happiness she found in humanity which was greater than the love they had for one another. About the engagement necklace, Sersi still wears to this day. About the subtle looks and expressions that conveyed just how much they were holding themselves from each other. About how Ikaris sacrificed the purpose he lived for, for centuries, because he could never dream of harming Sersi letting alone killing her. How Sersi's true power only came to light because she was trying to save Ikaris. About how true and pure their love must be for it to have lasted thousands of years, outliving every dynasty and empire to ever walk this planet. Oh, I just love them so much. About how their love is the quiet, gentle kind that doesn't bombard you but washes over you in quiet whispers until all you feel is their overwhelming love for another. The kind of love where they truly just want one another to be happy.

dane is great (i guess lol) but ikaris is sersi's true equal and the obvious love of her life. their love for one another but especially irakis' love for sersi is ultimately what saves the planet. it's what causes him to have a change of heart, because as loyal as he was to the celestials, his true loyalty was always with her. will always be with her. he got close to humanity because she had so much love for them, he abandoned her only because he wanted to protect her and he couldn't bring himself to hurt her even at his worst. i love their love. i should have seen the ending coming considering his name but i was still rocked by it nonetheless. thank you for this beautiful edit, your hard work does not go unnoticed!

I don't understand why people hate this movie so much. I think it has one of the strongest meanings of all MCU movies. The moment Ikaris looks at Sersi, remembers the time they had, how much he loves her, looks at the earth and then realizes he has made a mistake and this world SHOULD EXIST because of the deep love he has for her is so freaking powerful... Love is the answer to everything

Alright I have to rant somewhere, but Ikaris is not a bad guy. He is a soldier, he follows orders. To make matter even worse he follows a religious creature, Arishem was supposed to be like their god. He wasn’t allowed to question if Arishem is wrong, so when he was told of the actual mission he, in a sense, gave up. He found out that for thousands of years he was used, he didn’t think he could do anything to change it. So being the faithful soldier he is he quest quiet. Then there’s the fact he was told like right after Sersi and him got together, he was lying like the whole time they were together! He later left her because he couldn’t handle lying to her when you saw how much she loved humanity. Then later on when he killed Ajax he was questioning everything. Ajax always knew the plan, she had faith in Arishem. But then after thousands of years of him having to lie to Sersi and the others she changes her mind. That shakes everything, because commanders are not supposed to change their minds. Later when Sersi was yelling at Ikaris she tells him that Ajax loved him, but he just responded by asking did she really? He doesn’t know anymore. As for him threatening the rest of the gang to him they weren’t really dying. He thought as soon as the emergence happened they would be reset, all fine and dandy. Ikaris didn’t really think he was killing them. Ajax truly picks the right person to find the truth because while he didn’t think he was really killing them Ikaris would never hurt Sersi. I know a lot of people like the other relationships in the movie, but I really like Ikaris and Sersi. Their interactions were interesting and Ikaris is one of the best underrated character written in awhile.

I agree. Ikaris was the perfect Eternal. When Ajax revealed the true mission only to him, he sacrificed his happiness, which he was told was only temporary anyway, to fulfill him duty as a soldier. Ajak used him. The other Eternals were not burdened with the “creation” knowledge and thus were free to evolve in to the human experience on Earth. Ikaris remained a loyal soldier, protecting Sersi and obeying Areshem through Ajak’s commands. Sersi forgave him and still loved him dearly.

I find myself coming back to this edit a lot. It's interesting to examine how Eternals is arguably the most emotionally intimate film in all of the MCU library. It's a story in which every character's motivation is driven by love. You don't usually see movies that let characters, especially superheroes be that vulnerable. Ikaris is driven by his love for Serci, Serci her love for humans. Sprites desire to be able to be loved romantically. Druig ultimately lets humans have free will because he loves them too much to take what makes them human. Phastos connection to humanity was reignited by the love of his husband. Thena chooses to live with her condition because she loves the memories with her family too much to lose them. Gilgamesh is driven by a desire to protect what he loves ( Thena ), and Kingo ultimately decides to stay out of the final battle as he loves his family too much to fight them. I think interestingly enough, Ajaks love was the most harmful, she kept it a secret from all the other Eternals, but that would make it sting later, and She made Ikaris suffer alone in the truth for thousands of years. I think this movie just couldn't appeal to the masses cause it's a little more focused on being an intimate story of all kinds of love shared between this family of dysfunctional gods. The MCU is a series that caters itself to both casuals and comic fans. Casuals love the MCU cause they're family flicks which they can turn their brain off watching, and comic fans love seeing they're favorite stories adapted to the screen. Naturally, when this film isn't the typical action flick or superhero flick people are going to write it off. Admittedly, before seeing it, I did too. While the movie has flaws, I think it's such an inventive and fresh entry into the oversaturated superhero market, that it should be talked about and appreciated so we remember, we can always tell a good superhero story, and a good human story, even if it's about gods. Lol.

I ship Ikaris with Sersi , even after everything Sersi forgave Ikaris . Shows that true love exist. The ending literally made me cry , so amazing and emotional. I wonder why people say this movie is boring when its so amazing , funny and the storyline is mind blowing.Ikaris was a bad guy but still l didnt want him to die he was fully bad he was just following Aresham 's orders . @@xlyohxym each and every eternal died in this movie will come's back there is a place called world forge there all the eternals have thousands of copies of themselves. and if u read the comics sersi and dane never ended up together the only storyline they had a thing going in between them is the storyline called The GATHERES they break up at the end of the storyline itself after they break up sersi end up with makari (in comics makkari is male they had a long romantic relationship and for the movie they given the romantic part to ikaris) and more than that dane is a normal humman he can't live forever but sersi can and another important thing is dane is an individual hero he never mingled with eternals they introduce him in this movie to set him up in his path and to join the Midnight suns team which includes black knight, blade, moon knight, werewolf by knight, ghost rider,etc. that's why blade showed up in the post credit scene.

the thing people don't really understand is that ikaris is not evil. like even people trying to defend him treat him like a villain but he is not. he loved sersi and the eternals and wanted to follow his heart, but chose his logic instead, as i would've done too. because the humans living here are only one another species he has seen in his life for him, he doesn't think humans are anything speical or should be considered as such when the other intelligent species also have a chance of experiencing this, will they stop all of them? he thinks the right thing to do is to let the celestial be born so that it can form other lives and planets, and the cycle of existence can continue. this is what always happens, so he chooses to do the right thing even if it hurts to lose his family and his home of 7000 years, and mind you, he learned this a while ago and had been suffering all alone, and his commander did not have a problem with this so he made up his mind in her light. now sersi and others chose humanity like many people would choose their own families over other people even if those people are hundreds. because they love their family and don't want to lose them that thye wouldn't mind killing a celestial and losing the millions that would be born with it. though i kinda agree, something that doesn't exists yet can't be lost so the people already existing should be more important.

I don't understand why people don't like Ikaris there are way more awful villains in the marvel movies and they probably done much worst. Yes he did do bad things but he had reasons. Like when he left Sersi, he left her not that he didn't love her her loved her so much. He left because he found out what their true mission was on earth and what they had to do and he couldn't bring himself to tell Sersi and he didn't want to lie to her. And yes even though he turned out to be the villain he was loyal to his mission and he believed that he needed to complete his mission because that is what they were send to do, but then he surrendered himself to Sersi and he let her stop it, because he would never hurt her and that is why I love Ikaris and I really hope he didn't die, because him and Sersi are soulmates

And he did keep tabs on her throughout the years to make sure she was safe and just to check up on her and I think that is also the true definition of soulmate, even though you aren't together anymore you still want to check up on them

Am I the only one who actually feels the chemistry and weight of all their history of thousands of years together?! I've literally never been involved in ship wars, nor do I have any interest in them, but it gets super annoying when I see constant comments shitting on their supposed lack of chemistry and about how Makkari and Druig were way better. Like, just stop comparing and love them more if that's what you want? I do love Makkari and Druig as well but Ikaris and Sersi are my otp so it's always nice to come across people who love them as much as I do. Their story is so heartbreaking and tragic and it kills me that we didn't get to see more of their time together!! But I am glad they were the main couple of the movie so that we got to see more of them together.

Ugh, I really wish everyone who shat on eternals could watch this because this highlights so much of what was missed simply because they were expecting another Marvel formulaic movie. Even if you take sersi out of the equation, ikaris' story was very fascinating and not all like the boy who flew too close to the sun. That story was about pride, his is about devotion. Devotion to family and devotion to his God, for a lack of a better word, and what happens when they conflict. Sersi was about a girl, happy in the shadows, who was forced to stand in the light and how she adjusted to that. I could go on about each eternal. But the truly sad thing is if this was released by any other company exactly the way it was, it would have received much better ratings. However, I haven't read the comics. I'm purely basing this on the movie and what I think makes a compelling story.

Yeah, Ajak even acknowledges Ikaris's sacrifice in leaving Sersi when she says "I'm sure she's missed you"...only to then drop the bombshell when she all of a sudden flips the script after thousands of years of having him keep the secret and tells him she wants to stop the emergence, when the whole reason he left in the first place was bc he was so sure the emergence was inevitable and he couldn't bear to keep lying to everyone, most of all Sersi. So now that Ajak tells him she wants to stop it, what was the point of his leaving in the first place? His and Sersi's suffering from being apart and their respective feelings--Ikaris burdened with the truth, Sersi left without closure and endlessly wondering why he left--were for nothing. The more I think about it, the more I totally get his resentment toward Ajak (don't condone killing her ofc). I like her character, but she also did him real dirty. Ofc it's not ALL on her, but she did play a part.

And in the end, his leaving her and the unhappiness they both suffered while apart was all for nothing when Ajak, who'd had him keep the secret for so long, told him she changed her mind literally six freaking days before the emergence was supposed to happen. So in the end, what did he ever leave for? Ikaris is a really good character because of that nuance and complexity to his motivations and circumstance. I really don't understand why people act like he's a horrible antagonist ('horrible' meaning without complexity or good reason) when there are so many worse villains in the MCU. In my view, he's one of the best antagonists we've seen because we got to see his backstory and everything that led up to his actions. Edit: also it really bugs me when people sympathize or at least understand with one antagonist without considering other antagonists. For example people love Loki even though he's done objectively terrible shit, including being willing to kill his family and throwing Thor under the bus countless times. Only reason his redemption was more accepted was because he had way more movies to have that arc.

So many people hating on them because they didn't have as much chemistry as other couples. But all of them fail to realise that maybe that was the whole point. Their relationship was meant to feel off. They weren't meant to end up together. They were two completely different people. Sometimes you fall in love with someone that isn't for you. And It might take a while to realise this. Heck some people are married for years before realising this. That doesn't mean you don't love them.

This is very powerful scene imo. It tries to address two very old issues. For Ikarius it is Love Vs Duty which has haunted Men for years over and over again. Ikaris was duty bound at this stage. For Sersi- could a compassionate leader make a hard choice when time comes?One of the reason women are snubbed as leaders as women are considered more compassionate.

I wish in the end, ikaris flew cerci so that they hovered above the ground, preventing cerci from touching the eternal. The only way for cerci to save humanity would be to first transform ikaris so they would fall back down to the ground where cerci could then transform the eternal. In the end, cerci would choose humanity not just over an celestial, but over ikaris as well. Cut ends as she weeps clinging to the frozen statue of ikaris.
