Thank you for uploading this interview! Ike was instrument to the development of blues and rock & roll. Elvis used to watch him play and Jimi Hendrix played in his band. He influenced Little Richard, who wrote the introduction to his autobiography. He discovered many legendary blues musicians such as Howlin' Wolf, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Little Junior Parker, Little Milton, Billy "the kid" Emerson and Rosco Gordon. He also played piano on B.B. King's early records and played guitar on "Double Trouble" by Otis Rush.

You're looking at the real King of Rock and Roll. It's really nice to see people that recognize it. He was unfairly robbed of his legacy because of a fn movie.

Yes, him and Tina relationship soured, but he was very talented and picked great artist to be in his band. He also came from a time when black men didn't own their own record companies. Very segregated times. Today he could have been a big time record producer like Berry Gordy, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis & LA and Babyface. Im glad he got his flowers before he past. He was very instrumental in pioneering Rock and Roll.

Elvis who was nowhere near his level of talent was also abusive and a child molester but he's still called the King even though we all know better. He was following Ike around as a teenager.

My mom was part of the Hollywood music scene in the mid 60's. She would always see Ike & Tina at all the clubs. I was like 6 years old. I would absorb all this when she would tell me. I went to work in the music biz many years! Met Ike and went to his compound. He had so much talent and music focus. Too bad about his abuse it ruined his career. But he guided Tina to become a music superstar!!!

Nah, he was flattered by the compliment but his publicist got his attention and said Let's go. Anytime she came up it always went south.

@@skepchicaDoubt it. Ike didn't like talking about Tina in his later years. I saw another interview of him around 2005 and they brought up Tina and he said " I'm not going down that road anymore." I think Ike really tried to distance himself from Tina. I remember he said Tina was the worst thing to happen to him.

@kisha4040 I mean, I don't blame him. People used to spit on him and all kinda crazy sh, she cut off the kids, the grandkids. I never saw him say anything bad about her, and he told the boys to stop publicly defending him because if that's what she needed to get famous to let her and leave it between her and God. I don't think the interviewer here, for once, didn't mean any harm. But no matter what he said they'd turn it into something horrible. I'm glad to see him looking so happy here.

Y’all understand……this IS THE MAN WHO INVENTED ROCK AND ROLL!!! Think about that for a while.

Saying he "invented" it is going too far really but Rocket 88 was an important link in the chain.

@@jamesrobertson432No, it's not. Little Richard's piano playing was heavily influenced by Ike. Like it or not Ike Turner is the real King of Rock and Roll. Ike was one of if not the most talented musicians of our time. Ask any other musician.

@@skepchica That's what I meant by him being an important link in the chain..okay maybe that doesn't do him justice given that "Rocket 88" can be seen as the first "rock n roll" record. I deliberately say "can be seen" because other songs before it can also be seen as the first. Of course there's no precise definition of "rock 'n roll". In fact it can also be argued that the first "rock 'n roll" song was after that. In fact Ike Turner once said that he didn't see Rocket '88 as being a rock 'n roll song but an R&B song that "caused" rock 'n roll to come into being. "Rock 'n Roll" didn't then just pop into being but those songs were created by other artists and there were influenced by what came before for example with Little Richard being influenced by Rocket '88 and Ike's piano playing which is what you said. I'm just saying that I think "invented" is maybe just a step too far. He was very influential on rock n roll coming into being though.

He did not invent rock and roll. No single person invented rock and roll. To say he invented it discredits all the other musicians who contributed to the genre.
