Ikea Ivar Assembly

Following on from my previous video; I briefly share how I assembled the I**a Ivar Shelving Unit.
I appreciate that it may not appear to be a complicated process for many people but I like to share the method and sequence of working, as I always find it's beneficial to think ahead before starting or rushing in to a job of any size or scale.

I am scandinavian and therefore know how to attatch any IKEA furniture, no just kidding haha. I frankly had no clue how to put together the Ivar shelf until I found your tutorial which was really good, helpful and made more sense than the pictograms tutorial form IKEA .Thank you.

Thank god for you, Sir! It might look easy to do without manual (or so Ikea thought probably) but I had no clue the pins were hidden in the shelves. At least mentioning that, would be nice, but I can't find it mentioned anywhere.

Thank you, I'm pleased to hear that you found my video to be useful. It took me ages, with my first unit, to find out where those pins were. I was almost certain that they were missing and I'd have to drive for 45 minutes back to the store! They were illustrated in one of Ikea's diagrams but it could've been clearer. All the best.

Thank you. It's from Metabo's Powermaxx 12 range. It runs off of 10.8v batteries and, being compact in size, I've found it very useful for all sorts of jobs.

So the observator is important and will need drilling.

I wouldn't assemble an Ikea unit without an Observator, unless you're fixing it to the wall in several places. Drill pilot holes helps to get the screws in to the wood but you could drive the screws in to the wood without drilling.

Hmmm I might make a room divider out of Ivar's... has anyone done this? Maybe instead of the cross bracing as a diaphragm, smaller 1x wood slats would be good...

I like the idea and you could certainly substitute the metal brace with another option. Just had a look on Pinterest and several people had indeed made folding screens and dividers from them... Best of luck.

Is it easy to remove the middles shelves if you want to change their location in the future? Thank you

As long as there's plenty of room above them, yes. You just need to push them upwards so that they unclip from the metal pins in the legs. I hope that makes sense - thank you for watching and for your comment.

I can't find the cross brace even though it is said on the notice that this is included, can anyone tell where can qi found it ?

Did you pick it up from Ikea? They tend to store them in a different aisle from the wood. Not always in the same place or easy to find... I hope that helps.

For anyone wondering how to get the PINS out, you literally just have to push really really hard down, and then try to slide the flat screwdriver and pop it straight up OR find a side angle then pop the pins off out of the shelves. It's a horrible design, it left me with a lot of dents on the shelves since the wood is SUPER soft. Also, some pins tend to pop off much easier than others, and popping them out WILL feel like yorue damaging your product
