Pretty cool. I saved a ton of money by going with a prefab quartz countertop for $500. Made the cutouts for the sink and induction cooktop myself using a grinder, drill and sander.
@ahomeinSeattle2 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered if that would be possible. Did the cuts turn out finish quality or are you covering them with a top mount sink?

One of my concerns with Ikea kitchens is that they discontinue styles every few years. You mentioned that a damaged door can't be repainted. What if a door gets damaged after the style is no longer available?

No more cheap IKEA nowadays! You suggested not get toe kicks so which materials we can do? get wood 2x4 and custom build?
@ahomeinSeattle Жыл бұрын
I don’t love the plastic toe kicks. I would cut a few 1x4s out of pine or poplar and paint to match. You could pin nail or screw from above inside the cabinet and wouldn’t see a thing.

What is the name/manuf./dimensions of your sink? You did your own cabinet assembly, but dis you do your own plumbing [sink/dishwasher], etc? Thanks
@ahomeinSeattle Жыл бұрын
I did everything except countertops myself. I didn't move any of the plumbing, so it was pretty easy. Here's the sink I got: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SCMBVFR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

How do the insides of the cabinets hold up? In the past, we’ve build the cabinets. With lumber prices being so high, we’re looking at alternatives. Unfortunate timing, this house is our final remodel as it’s the one we’ll likely be staying in, so I’m very interested to know how the carcasses hold up. We’ll build our own doors and drawer faces when lumber goes down, but the current cabinets are falling apart and need replaced ASAP. Thanks!
@ahomeinSeattle3 жыл бұрын
I think they're great. I don't like the toe kicks, so you should plan on building those custom as well, but the carcasses are pretty sturdy with the only weak point being the back panel. It folds so that it can be packed and is kind of cheap feeling and flexible.

Nicely done kitchen. One thing you might regret is the Microwave over the Range setup. I would have done a strong vent hood with the Microwave installed right below the counter top somewhere.

@raymondchow87222 жыл бұрын
@@jorge3234 Looking up is one thing. Above the cooktop is just too high. Plus the ventilation capability for such microwave is just terrible. I would trade for a less greasy kitchen oven bending over a few times to retrieve food from the microwave.

Hi, I'd like to know how the cabinets are holding up after almost a year using it. Since you mentioned that it's always raining there, I figured it might be somewhat similar to a humid climate that I'm living in, so I was worried that a particleboard cabinet might get bloated over time.

They're holding up great! I've even overflowed the coffee pot a few times with coffee going everywhere and it hasn't been a problem.

I see you used subway tiles for your backsplash, but Ikea does not offer this. Do you recommend Ikea backsplashes? Where did you get yours?

I just picked up subway tiles from Home Depot, super cheap and classic. I’m not familiar with the backsplash options from ikea, but traditional tile is always my go-to. Very durable and cheaper than most anything else.

5 years ago I did my kitchen with ikea cabinets. Now I’m going custom. The quality just isn’t there with IKEA. If you have kids, they will not last. If you’re gonna do a whole kitchen, don’t make the same mistake I did. Do it right with custom cabinets

@@ahomeinSeattle custom cabinets in my case was $15,000 more than a new set of ikea cabinets. It is quite a bit more but it’s solid hardwood and not laminate. I also chose mahogany but you could do maple for way less.

why did you not use IKEA veneer wood worktop?
