A few months ago, I bought myself a new bed frame from Ikea. It's in their 'Neiden' range and was only £60, including the bed slats. Given the time and space to make my own design, I reckon I'd have spent more money.
In this video, I'll show you how I assembled the bed frame.

Good video, it seems sturdy enough. I've taken one of those bed bases apart rather than take to the tip. Good source of low quality hardwood once you get the staples all removed but the bits have good parts that have been used in other project once the knots have been cut around.

smitcher Thank you. That's good to know you've been able to recycle the materials in the past. I did end up stripping it apart. The wood was only softwood but easily recycled. Even the metal inside went in to the correct bin. I only binned some of the fabric. All the best and thanks for watching.

Hey, do you think this frame would work with a 120 or a 90 width mattress? Just wondering if the slats stay flat enough so it's not bumpy or anything since it's not covering the whole distance. They don't sell 120 wide versions sadly, I have a 120 and a 90 width mattress and I like to use both, the 90 wide neiden would be great for the smaller mattress but couldn't use the bigger mattress then.

Can't see that bed taking some serious action Olly;-) Looks very insubstantial. When I moved into my decrepit cottage several years ago I spent most of my resources on renovation so I used eight clean wooden pallets readily available and just screwed them together to make a very strong platform bed...temporarily. A coffee table soon followed.IKEA has its place for some things but you a very capable and talented woodworker!!!

Thanks for watching and for your comment. Well, my previous bed didn't receive much action either... Sadly. :-/ If it does fail at any point, I have ideas on how it can be reinforced. I am still very happy with this frame. Sometimes it makes a loud 'click' noise but I don't move around much in bed. I don't think glue is essential. Most of my frame is not glued as I need to be able to take it apart each time I move (I live in rented accommodation).

Thanks for your question. As Ram has suggested, there are no pre-drilled holes for the wood. But it is a softwood and you may be able to drive screws in without. If you can start the hole by pushing in a screwdriver or nail to dent the wood, this may also help. I hope this does help.

I have this bed frame, I'm renting a furnished room and those two allen key screws on the sides just ripped out the other night. Tightening them does nothing, they just pop right back out. How do I fix that? Just get some actual screws and drill them deeper?

hi friend what was the length of the overall packaged box?
@OllyParryJones
@OllyParryJones 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I would estimate it's about 6ft or 1.8m, as that's roughly the length of the bed. I can't be certain as the item has disappeared from Ikea's UK website. But I hope this helps. It should go in the back of a car with the rear seats folded down.

Hi, I've never seen bed slats in that size. Ikea only sell them in singles. I imagine it offers better support for two people, rather than just supporting the larger mattress. I hope this helps.
