Dude, this is fucking brilliant. No one from my school has ever made anything even remotely close to this standard of filmmaking, especially for a year 12. I am beyond impressed good job! I have to applaud your sound mixing too because god was it pristine and also your cutaways and transitions are brilliant. I got a bit of a Edgar Wright Hot Fuzz vibe. Good job!

Ike Haigh okay how the heck are you in year 11?! youre gonna go so far kid. lemme know what uni you end up choosing, Id love to help out on a project or work together in the future if youd like to 😊 Either way best of luck man. I'd say it's talent (and you are talented) but I can tell this is from dedication to your craft and honing your skills. You should be extremely proud 😊

Probably the best movie I've seen in the past year, so dynamic and full of feelings, also the camera and effects... It's perfect and deserves much more attention that it has.

This is some ridiculously high-quality stuff for a high school film, but I have a questions about your strange VFX choices. Was it easier to add vomit, bandages, bruises, and text on some damn paper in post-production than to just make those things the normal way?
@tegamblero6 жыл бұрын
The more I look through the more sneaky stuff I find. Most of it makes sense, but those I listed just seem to me like more trouble than their worth.
@IsaacHaigh6 жыл бұрын
Good question man! The main reason I chose to do those things in post (excluding the bandages, those were real) was due to limited shooting time. We shot that fight scene during lunchtimes, and it just wasn't worth my while to make some fake vomit. For one, I'd have to clean it up afterwards (unnecessary time wasted) and then there was the possibility of it going on his clothes, him mis-timing the puke, or it not showing up well on camera. As for the bruises, that was again due to time constraints. I didn't want to make my mates sit down for a good half hour and do their makeup, when I knew I could achieve what I wanted just as easily in post. The text on the envelope wasn't planned; the writing that we did on the day wasn't very visible, and I wanted to make sure that people could underdtand what it said, so I popped some bolder text over the top. Most of the VFX was little fixes and things to bring the world to life. Other stuff included adding a fake backpack in the basketball throwing scene (because we forgot to shoot with one on), adding in a bookshelf on the left in the dolly-in shot of the librarian, removing myself from wideshots with a cleanplate (because I was visibly in frame with a boom pole getting audio) and removing people from the background of the fight scene. TLDR; it was easier to worry about fixing little things in post than spending excessive amounts of time on set figuring out ways to work around them and fix them. Hope this answers your question!
@tegamblero6 жыл бұрын
Ike Haigh You must’ve had next to no free time to fit in all of those little effects. Many of them were completely seamless. I admit I was taking a stretch with the bandages though, but I still can’t shake the feeling that they look fake. Maybe it’s the added bruise on the nose?
@tegamblero6 жыл бұрын
Okay, sorry if I'm annoying you, but I've been analysing those bandages frame by frame. It was only after changing video quality settings that I worked out that they look fake because the video in 720p (which is the setting I was watching at) has frame interpolation errors that make the bandages look like they were improperly tracked. In 1080p, these errors aren't present. Notice the second blink in the close up in 1080p and 720p settings, and how the rightmost edge of his nose bandage seems to 'jump' as he turns his head. Anyways, good work on the film, and good luck on finishing your VCE or whatever it is you're up to.

This is most definitely one of the best short films I have every watched. Amazing job !! The pacing and style of story telling was so well done and so easy to watch. I have to ask though, how did you learn all your skills when it comes to film making, cause my school definitely doesn’t come close to the way of teaching film making. Was it all from practice or other sources?? It would be great to hear back cause it would be awesome to be at least half as good as you !!

@@IsaacHaigh Woah that's amazing that you learnt all that from youtube. props to you!! Right now I haven't got a specific type of skill I want to focus on but if i ever want to work on VFX I know who to come to :) Thank you as well for the speedy reply haha
