Eddie was great and a giant inspiration but he wasn’t wired to do a G3. Evh wasn’t diverse enough to go side by side with the shred heads. He had one sound and a limited bag of tricks that he repeated over and over in all his albums.

@@tradbowseven eddie had a lot of different guitar sounds. His guitar sounds different on all albums. Its true that after 1984ish he started repeating his licks. But lets face it. the 5150 does have the richest tone it's been my favorite amp since it came out . I got my first one back in 97 switched from a jcm 800 .i wish I still had those original amps . I've got a 6505 that I love and a reissue 800 that rocks but that old Marshall and peavey had an almost magical sound . maybe it's just the way I remember it but anyways the 5150 has really taken tone to the next level . and don't get me started on the 7 string ibanez those two pieces of gear have made guitar so interesting hats off to eddie and Steve via for pushing limits and taking rock guitar to new heights.

@gkniffen2 жыл бұрын
That's because the only way to make a 5150 sound good was to play it wide open. I had the original 5150 2x12 combo, thinking you could make the smaller version work in a bar-band setting. You couldn't. The hiss was unbearable and the amp wouldn't sing until it was at a paint-peeling decibel level. I'm sure if you're playing an arena it sounds great. It just wasn't practical for weekend warrior types. 🤷♂️

it took me about a month to find my sound on a 5150. the eq is so sensitive and every setting is so dynamic you change one thing and other things change. super interesting sound. the power amp is where most of the tone comes from it has a very dark and aggressive punchy sound that's warm and fat. just a little less aggressive than i would like but overall a great amp. i use the low input and gain on something like 3 and i get the richest edge of breakup classic rock tone ever. this am can do classic rock medium gain but you have to throttle it back a lot. once you start pulling back the gain on this amp it really starts to shine. try it sometime. pull back that resonance too. let this amp breathe and see what it can do. its not just a metal amp.

You can get a Block Letter 5150 for dirt cheap and they're killer amps. I don't understand how that is.
