I forgot how much I like Ikon. Their music is so fun to listen to. I'm waiting for some smart person to hire B.I. to be a producer and songwriter. That kid's got talent...even if he's not the best vocalist. Props to Junhoe for topping the list. His voice has improved a lot! Or rather, his control of his voice has improved a lot!

I feel like the problem with ikon is that YG has always tried to box them in this hiphop/party/yg style music so their vocal training is lacking but there's so much more to them and their music so their vocal styles have been developed more through touring, trial and error and B.I's guidance in the studio than through their training. I always feel like Song's vocals are so underrated, he is officially considered a subvocalist but he could be lead any day. Also I don't know if someone has mentioned it already but B.I actually said in 2018 that he had vocal cord nodules and that he probably had to get surgery

It's always sad to me how some companies just completely fail to give them decent vocal training. I mean considering how long they've trained it's honestly sad to see them having a lot of potential but not really the ability to utilize it... There have been many shows where you see the trainees at YG get vocal training and sadly there's never any helpful advice that they're given. And then they always beat themselves up for not being able to hit the high notes...

June actually went in as a dancer with YGE before they found out he could sing,DK was actually a rapper with JYP,and Song was actually signed as an actor before he decided he wanted to sing-all were in their mid teens. Wonder how much more awesome they could have been if they could have been trained in technique earlier.

@@abc-lt3un Park Bom and Daesung have completely ruined their voices. Rose uses a similar technique to Park Bom, so she can potentially ruin her voice too. June is clearly pulling chest voice when he goes higher and is blasting straight from his throat. YG’s only vocalist who can be considered one of the greatest in kpop is Seungyoon of Winner. However, it looks like YG’s vocal training has drastically improved because Treasure all have pretty healthy techniques and can grow to become a lot better.

As an iKONIC, I've never seen a proper vocal analysis of iKON (with reasoning) so this video was an exciting find for me. I want to share my perspective as a fan. im not that knowledgeable on how voices work, but I sing sometimes. I also have a major problem with subconsciously trying to copy the members when I sing their songs (especially with Jay and DK) so I somewhat understand their voices. Btw, you pronounced Ju-ne correct. For me, I think I'd put Bobby 7th rather than 6th but this is simply an opinion. I agree with everything you said, and I do think Bobby has more potential than B.I because he has a certain musicality in him but I feel like B.I knows his limits and mostly sticks to what he can do, which I find very important, whereas Bobby has absolutely zero sense of self awareness and just gets by doing whatever he does. It works and it sounds fun but it's also a little unpleasant, especially when he tried to release a whole album full of it (Love & Fall). but there are moments where i totally feel like he could do better and just purposely does this thing as a stylistic choice Chan is a pretty solid 5th and I have no comment. He usually stays in his comfortable range as you said. Songs like #WYD, rubber band and DIVE, are slightly out of his bounds so he usually sings it lightly or skips the note when theyre live My 3rd and 4th correspond to yours, but I'm adding a little bit of my own input because I was surprised that you thought it was difficult to rank. DK is my bias and to me, he was obviously 4th. I feel like he has some problem with his breath that limits his agility (?) and affects his pitch occasionally. He can also be inconsistent so I've occasionally seen him lose control and either go super breathy and shaky or just really push the sound out until it doesn't sound that nice, but this is probably bc he dances really hard. This doesn't really happen with the other three tho so I'd put him 4th. Song was also an obvious 3rd place for me. He had the potential to go higher, but it seems to me that he has less control over his voice than june and jay and relies more on his natural grasp of his voice/raw talent (which is pretty much what happened. He had no prior training but was decent after one year, kinda like those people who just waltz into a karaoke and realize they can sing). He also gets tense bc the notes sometimes stresses his voice out and he usually just tries to go for even more high notes anyway even if he's audibly struggling already while the top 2 would probably find a way to dodge it. He's quite susceptible to voice cracks because of this As for 1st and 2nd, I actually disagree with your ranking. This might be because I know little about vocal technique and I weighed them on other factors. Jay sounds pretty comfortable with all parts of his range and is smarter with his voice. if you listen to Flower (where he pretty much has the same line as June), I feel like his switch over to and back from a falsetto is better controlled than June's (possibly because he chose better places to breathe?). I've also seen more technically challenging aspects from him (see: just go) while June relies on the belting approach to wow everyone (but sometimes he can strain hard). So Jay sounds more mature and polished when he sings. But at the same time, June has way less problems with pitch and is definitely more stable on average. He's also more emotional and musical and even when he makes it work even when his voice isn't in its best condition. So it's truly one of the toughest rankings I know and most fans are confused too. What we do agree on is that YG sucks ass at vocal training and they all would've been better off as vocals elsewhere.

You should definitely rank ot5 Winner! All 5 of them have very unique vocal colors and even the 2 rappers sing quite a bit. Seungyoon aka Yoon (the leader) is one of the best kpop vocalists (but one of the least talked about by international fans). He won King of Masked Singer 6 times (first and only idol to ever do so) and it would be interesting to see your take on his technique and very unique vocal tone.

They debuted last year so it might be a bit early to do it, but I do think some of the members are really talented, and a couple have a lot of potential. Haha I feel really proud right now, I guessed how you would rank iKON in my comment on your Nu'est vid and I'm happy to say I got everything right. Junhoe really annoys me too, I remember one performance where he started amazing, opened up but as the song went along, he went back to his throaty singing for intensity and I was like AHH if only he'd stayed more open! I feel like Yunhyeong/Song has so much potential though, I bet if he trained under SM, he would be like a whole new singer. I actually don't like DK's voice quite often when it's mid-range/high, cos it feels really weak to me like it's on the point of breaking quite often but his falsetto is lovely. Thanks for the vid! Pinkii Lights I really can’t between Sinb and yerin. Yerin has more volume and a stronger tone which is probably pleasant for more people to listen to and she’s good at switching between tones and she’s also got great range and is so good overall. But then I feel like although sinb is nasal she has a better understanding of vocal technique ? She’s more consistent for me, but I don’t know they’re both pretty equal for me 😭 but yerin is really improving at a super rapid rate

I could totally rank them easily 1) Junhoe he is the best in terms of vocal ability. Junhoe also just wanted to be dancer and nothing else which would of been a waste of talent. He not only has a loud voice but has the presence commanding the stage. 2) Jinhwan, for a kid who didn't sing easily he is the absolute best representation of what pushing yourself means. His voice is awesome and carries the most emotion especially with pop songs. 3) Yunhyeong improved insanely, he was one of the worst singers at first so for him to be 3rd.....that proves how much he worked on his vocals. 3) Donghyuk hes the best at lighter sounds, its so easy for him. I used to put Donghyuk 3rd but now Yunhyeong has definitely improved. 4) Chanwoo/Chan Is actually not bad to be honestly but he really doesn't have the confidence to go beyond his comfortable level. I think that if Chanwoo would of started out with Team B from the beginning he wouldn't of made it to the lineup. The thing is that he actually has the potential to grow a lot more. From the start until now he has definitely improved even going towards rap. Bobby is a rapper but i would rate 5th, He does the best in rock songs he does have the potential. If i had to put B.I. in the ranking i would put him last, he is very limiting but he has a peculiar vocal color but I would rather not hear him singing. YG doesn't seem to care much for proper vocal training but rather they want them to find the best place for them so in the long run their stage are always consistent. I remember that they also train them to sound different to other idols outside of YGE, YG cannot stand to have similar voices to other groups which ironically means nothing because their artists get copied. The thing i love about Ikon and Big Bang is that they continuously learn what works for each person and fill each others gaps like second nature.

YG really doesn't have the best vocalists technically compared to for example SM, but they all have a unique tone and know how to put feelings into their voices. However, their new upcoming boygroup, Treasure, has been praised to have the some of the best vocalists of the 4th generation even before their debut. I would really appreciate your opinion on their voices in the future when they release some more music, though they also have amazing covers that show their abilities.

@@adellianaura7910 There are good vocalists in YG, but you can't deny that they are more known for their vocal tones than technique (which is not a bad thing, I prefer a good vocal color and portrayal of emotion over perfect technique any day.) Based on skill overall, I still believe that SM outclasses the people you mentioned. If you compare them to their "counterparts": Shinee's vocal line is definitely more skilled than BB. Exo outclasses Winner (also in tone imo). Nct is stronger vocally than Ikon. Taeyeon is literally the best vocalist out there right now imo, Park Bom is good, but not Taeyeon. And while I prefer Rosé, Jisoo and Jennie generally, I think most people will agree that Wendy, Seulgi and Joy outclass them in terms of range, projection, stability etc. YG vocalists aren't unskilled at all, but their strength is not vocal technique, but rather vocal color and portrayal of emotion, which is often lost in "perfect" singers in my opinion.

Song) 3 9 something like this it's also a jpn song and they recently released a song why why why....all are incredible in June voice.......and I don't know u know or not me too is a well polished singer and it's very difficult to control a husky voice....I have a frnd...I know being a husky vocal is very difficult and being in a disadvantage of vocal texture June is doing fantastic.......
