Flying Circus does NOT include : - a freaken CAMPAIGN mode. Come on 1C, it's self-delusional to release a multi-player only game with a fan base as small as ours. As I'm talking, there is 0 server available to play Flying Circus. Am I supposed to play endlessly single missions against an AI that is hardly a challenge?

Epic trailer, gorgeously done. When can we expect a sane and logical control feedback in the input control setup menu? I never know exactly what functions are bound to which HOTAS keys are bound to which functions - a pain in the butt! Having said that, I have very high hopes and expectations for FC.

Objects that do not need to react to player movement which is probably all ground models dont have to have implemented AI in it. It can be scripted just to do one thing shoot to the front for example.

I know the largest I've run in the quick missions are only 8v8 and the CPU definitely feels it, though that was in Il-2 with the medium bombers, and the FC aircraft have far smaller crews, so maybe I need to see if I can try bigger flights there.

Yeah, still looks like we wont be able to play around with huge bomber formations soon :p Although the biggest problem are the AI gunners, according to the devs. So turning them off should help, they were not that Useful IRL anyway. Looks like modded 1946 is still viable for a long time xD

Yes, it is. If you really like WWI aircraft, it's worth the purchase. It doesn't have a dynamic campaign or career mode, but it has a large community that releases SP missions and campaigns, and this will only continue to grow. It is most definitely not just all about MP.

One thing to make this clear, this video is just video made from the objects in the game, if you have that much planes loaded and that much ground activities your PC is blacked out. So its not an impresion of the game but more an impression of the video editing skills. I do have RoF with all the products from the store and I did buy this game FC1. My advice, before buying this FC game I suggest to read the independent reviews and not the ones that are sponsered by 1c or from fans.

They held off on it for the moment because Pat Wilson's Campaign generator covers it just as well as the official one, and already has support for multiplayer coop: forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/99-pat-wilson-campaign-generator/ It will be simpler to use the integrated one but this does a very good job of it too.

Sadly, the material textures used in Flying Circus for fabric, wood and metal are from an earlier era. C'mon 1C, let's see some PBR textures. The old-school, RoF-type shading doesn't make the grade any more in 2020.

Great video, very cool action parts. However, game wise it has only TWO 2 seaters, a small 100km x 100km map, no Pilot Career. On top of that costs $100 CDN, though they’ve reduced the price to $50, they should just keep it at that price. But overall, I think that these developers were better off finding someway to add VR and updated graphics to their earlier and better game, Rise of Flight than remaking it and forcing everyone to pay a whack load of $ on something that they already had bought.

It needed to be remade though, the engine and poly count was way to low a standard for today's market, back in the day though it was very good. You can't just simply add modern features to an older engine that still uses dx9. It would be a massive project to bring it back all at once but hopefully by purchasing volume 1 there will be a volume 2 to flush out the plane set more, even though the ones they chose were the most popular ROF aircraft anyways.

thanks skeletor Well, the developers were able to update the graphics of IL-2 BoX to DirectX 11 as well as update its game engine from the original (which is the same engine that ROF uses) to a newer one, so I believe that someone can do the same thing for ROF. Cheers.

The modern IL-2 engine *is* the updated Rise of Flight engine. "Any new products have to make business sense for not only us, but our partners who share in the work. The concept of FC1 presented an opportunity to take a larger than usual gamble and do an experiment." "As I said many times, this was my only option to do anything WWI related any time soon, so I went for it and thought a lot of flyers who owned ROF or owned IL-2 would be interested. No matter what happens, I don’t regret it, FC turned out very nice and it’s fun to fly. Everyone worked hard on FC1, so I hope I can move forward with another one. Time will tell. Please don’t ask me when. It could be next week or next year, I really don’t know right now." Unfortunately if there's no market for it, there is no business that will be able to deliver it. If you want to see more Rise of Flight, supporting Flying Circus is pretty much the only way it's going to happen.

wmouse What’s in Flying Circus that isn’t in ROF? Let’s see here for major things: VR, slightly updated graphics, parachutes for German pilots. Minor things: Updated pilot models, etc. What’s different from IL-2 1946 and IL-2 BoX/Great Battles. And what’s in and how much did FB or PF cost vs IL-2 1946. What’s in Rise of Flight that isn’t in FC1? I mean like, do we really need FC right now? With the next instalment, Normandy it’s going to be a big project with all the ships, ground vehicles, and wouldn’t it make sense for another team like perhaps Ugra Media to help make them. Though I feel their other project, Tank Crew should get a sequel immediately after TC1 is fully released. I dunno, I feel FC unnecessary for the time being as all of these resources could be spent on much more important other things, but it’s being spent on a “thneed”. Maybe years from now, perhaps after Normandy, they should do a sequel to Flying Circus, but now, no. I have ROF and have spent lots of $ on it, even after FC1 was announced, and greatly enjoy it. The only things lacking are VR and DirectX 11, (which IL-2 BoX also didn’t have at first) and feel that in late 2017 they should have left Rise of Flight dead; if they wanted to come back to WW1 then, they should have tried to find some way to update ROF itself. No Flying Circus aka a remake of ROF. That’s my view, and not trying to attack.

I never really got a chance to play RoF in it's heyday. I've checked out the website and the sheer amount of different plane models and modifications is certainly cool. But, I did add FC1 to my Il-2 collection and I'm glad I did, even if it's apparent it's just a taste of what could be. For me, the planes are fun to fly. Shooting enemy planes is satisfying in both feel and results. I've never been a big fan of the AI combat, but even that is getting better all the time and work on improving it hasn't been abandoned. Do I understand that there's probably a good bit missing compared to RoF? Yes. Do I wish there was an actual campaign included? Yes. Would I still consider buying FC2 if it ever came to be in spite of FC1's apparent short comings? Still yes.

All potential buyers should be aware this title has a serious, game-breaking bug in multiplayer: Invisible Planes. Yes that's right, incredible as it sounds, other players' planes (of both sides) 'appear' randomly invisible. You could have an enemy right on your tail and be oblivious to its presence until it's too late. The developers are entirely aware of this issue, but for whatever reason do nothing about it. To any responsible software vendor this would be a "drop everything" bug, but this company appears to be concerned only with churning-out ever more content, regardless of how defective it may be. Any other type of product would be classed as 'not of merchantable quality', but this one is content to hide behind its terms and conditions. Let's just say Caveat Emptor.

I wouldn't call that "conditioned to tolerate anything," I'd call it realistic.The fact that the most popular server had over 800 active players last month seems to bear that out. Truth is, I can think of only one or two who have actually stated they will not fly until this bug is fixed, and general consensus is that one of those simply wants to protect a streak accumulated before the servers began filling with better pilots. The bug needs to be addressed I agree, but not game breaking. At least not for most, even those who complain the loudest. If you don't wish to participate...don't. However attempting to convince others not to buy it will not shame 1C into fixing their product, it will simply force them to pull the plug completely. Then we all lose. JMO

Anyone undertaking to produce software, during its lifetime must assume responsibility for correcting faults as they are reported, therefore any company failing spectacularly so to do, must be exposed. Such action does not constitute attempting to convince others not to buy. If (as you claim), the company cannot be shamed into fixing its product, then I'd say you have just condemned it and vindicated my original claim by showing your personal, unconditional acceptance of the situation. Warning this is all scripted as even the best high-end CPUs can not handle this amount of AI planes. Same to all the ground activities, I can tell you as an FC owner, its rather empty at the front, rather boring btw. I would in my noble opinion never publish in name of 1C, as its not the game, but a modified video.
