J'ai toujours admiré cette cantatrice. Avec des moyens vocaux relativement limités, elle été touchante et nous a bouleversés dans tous les rôles qu'elle a abordés (Mélisande, Mimi, Traviata....). Elle avait un don de vie et une sensibilité qui la démarquaient de toutes les autres.

Eine absolute Rarität und für mich eine schmerzliche Erinnerung an die vielen Aufführung des "Verdi Requiem`s" die ich mit meinem Erich erleben durfte. Ileana Cotrubas singt das "Libera me"so überwältigend schön, dass mir. die Tränen kommen,habe es seten so grossartig gehört.Vielen herzlichen Dank,lieber Addi für dieses Geschenk..

This is how an essentially lyrical instrument should approach singing things at the extreme upper end of its fach. Brava! She always sang with integrity; never my favourite singer, but I always respect and in many way admire what she does. The (slight) jaw tension shows she's giving it all she's got at times, but she NEVER goes beyond that; a lesson, indeed!

BirdArvid What an interesting and illuminating commentary. I love this Requiem and I adore Ileana’s voice however I’m aware it’s a heavy piece for her. I feel I’ve learned a great deal from your perceptions of how she manages it with beauty and, as you say, integrity. So many thanks!

Was für eine Rarität , was für ein Dokument ! Muti , kaum mitte dreissig , und Cotrubas phantastisch , was für eine Intonation , herzerwärmend ! ( wenn man so etwas bei einem Requiem sagen darf … :) )

too bad they didn't focus on her while singing that High C. Glorious!

It was, indeed, a glorious high C. But Cotrubas was never able to float the high Bb in the piano section. I don't think she could ever produce a true whistle voice which did give her a tendency to attack all high notes from below. She also did not have a real staccato. Having said that, I absolutely ADORE her

Never cared for Cortrubas' voice. Just not a strong or dynamic instrument. Especially in a piece like this.

Madame Cotrubas possesses a voice of great depth, feeling and beauty. This is especially apparent when compared with your own embarrassingly flat and talentless attempts to sing as "highlighted" on your page.

I'm sorry that you are so immature that you feel the need to make personal attacks on someone who just has different tastes in singers than you do. There are other sopranos that I much prefer in the Libera me than Cortrubas. That doesn't warrant rudeness on your part.

I think you're right, it wasn't a large instrument, but it still filled the house and was effective in the large majority of the roles she sang, especially Gilda, Violetta, and her Mozart roles
