Playing the cello saved me my whole LIFE. I've been playing for 52 years and counting. Not to be too dramatic but, a few years ago I underwent a total reverse shoulder replacement due to an old injury which made playing very painful, thank god it was a success since it's my profession.... I told my surgeon on the operating table just before he put me under, "If you get in there are realize there's nothing you can do to fix my shoulder, I'd rather just NOT wake up......" I encourage anyone to take up this amazing instrument-I have started people as old as 75 and they adored learning it.

I began playing the cello 18 months ago, after playing the trombone for twenty years. You have been a great help ever since. You gifted me Feuillard, and I am very grateful for all your work.

Started 5 Years ago. I was 45 years old. It was a childhood dream to play the Cello. I've tried to learn it by myself for 4 years. Good enough for me, but never get over the basics because I was not sure how to manage it and wont do it the wrong way. This year my family convinced me to take lessons.(wonder why?) Luckily I found a wonderful teacher who teaches adult beginners (he was surprised how good my selfstudies were-I guess he were not convinced when I told him.) Sometimes I'm a little affraid, because I guess I have to do better. But little by little it's getting better. Every day it is MY TIME to any cost. Nobody can keep me away, and they wont do it😊

in an hour I'm leaving to buy my first cello, for real. I agree with this video 100%. I've been playing music in one way or another for 20 years, lots of guitar and piano, but in the last few years I've really discovered a new love for bowed instruments! I love my violin :D I will be interested to see if cello can overtake violin like i feel it may be able to... i wanted to start with cello, but the prices had me playing a violin

I played piano back in school, then guitar on my own. And bought a cheap cello 6 months ago and started playing on my own, next week I'll receive my new cello, a Lothar Semmlinger 132A. Had a pretty fast start probably thanks to my previous experience with guitar and piano, that also made me picky with the sound so got tired of my first cello pretty fast and felt that I was fighting the instrument and not only my own technique.

@@Henrik.Yngvesson very nice! My wallet is on fire right now, but I'm stoked about this new and first cello :) I played a few at the shop and this one seemed the easiest to play, with the most range of dynamics that my novice hands can figure out in a few seconds, with the skills of my violin learnings over the last few years lol made in 2005 by a luthier a few provinces away, I wish i could give you the one year review right now! Ten minute review: I'm going to love playing this thing for a long time! It's absolutely beautiful

@@IliaLaporevcellist yep, it's resting in its case while I wrap my head around finally having one :) it's so good! I love it's voice, it's so much better in person than I imagined. I've surprisingly never been exposed to one in person in real life, outside of listening to an orchestra. I hope I pick up on how to play it quickly, I need to find a couple beautiful pieces that are suitable for a motivated beginner with some violin experience

@@IliaLaporevcellist I've been watching a lot of violin/cello build and repair videos and tried to learn as much as I can. And I just finished working on the bridge which ain't perfect on these cheaper cellos. It was quite good on this Thomann student cello for €600 but had room for some improvement, the contact between the feet and body wasn't 100% so I used the lipstick method that Edgar Russ showed in a video which is just like how you scrape flat machine surfaces on lathes and mills and such which I'm more familiar with as I'm a welder and machinist by trade. So after doing that and scraping the feet into shape and took a millimeter of the width of one foot and adjusted the sound post I think I got it to sound much better. When I first got it the D and C string was like muted with no response at all, like a silent wolf tone that counteracted them. And the A string was very strong a squeaky. Changed to Larsen Aurora strings which made it better and more even all over. But the G and C was still a bit dull, it felt like playing on a wet cardboard box, and that has been bothering me the whole time and it interferes with my playing as I'm trying to compensate by playing hard and slow. I've now played it for an hour after I fixed the bridge and post and I think the lower strings now sounds a little better. But they're still weak and not as good as I'd like and probably not even close to what I expect a good cello to sound like. So I'm very excited to see how my new cello sounds like in comparison. Hopefully that will remove some of the frustration and let me focus more on my playing instead of fighting the instrument and trying to force the sound out of it.

A very good point and a worthy investment! A good instrument will motivate you and will present a new situation where you will have to discover the instrument and by doing that, you can actually improve yourself!
