Bob. You need the drive wheels in the front and the Omni wheels in the back. Trust me, is going to move a lot smoother. Also you want the Omni wheel to be slightly off the ground. Great video!

Came here to say the same thing. Glad I checked first. Drives to the front put them closer to the center line so you can spin on the spot better. Omni wheels at the back are just for balance when accelerating really. As Jorge says, the should just be off the ground ideally, when on smooth hard floor.

Every time you get another piece of this done, it puts a smile on my face. If it takes years to get this done, it just means we will have that much longer to enjoy the ride. As a person of comparable age and Star Wars fanatic in my youth, I share your love for this iconic droid. Thanks for sharing!

You put the right drive on the left drive on the right, the drive wheel is in front and the omni in the back. This puts the center of gravity down on your drive wheel so you don't have as much slippage.

Everything looks amazing! I just wanted to say that you might want to look into a welding jacket or at least wear long sleeves when welding to protect you from the UV radiation that the arc emits (its much more intense than the UV radiation we receive from the sun and can cause burns and similarly increase your cancer risk long term).
@tomerfeld62714 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob! My name is Tomer, Im a big fan of your work (and Star Wars lol). I believe the motor you are using is called a Mini CIM, which from my expirience is the most inefficient motor from VEX so Id probably recommend to use a different motor if that matter. In addition, Id be careful with the motor wiring and get a higher gauge wire from what is shown in the video. Other then that the project looks really cool and I cant wait to view to finished product!!!

your welding is looking good! Im not sure what type of tig welder you have, but you might want to give your tungsten a little rounded tip but setting your AC to 70/30 or 30/70 (which ever doesnt blow up your tungsten). Of course, this is a controversial topic, but I found if my tungsten has a slight rounded tip, it gives me a little bit more control, but this is a personal preference
