He was told by the mate its out of season you can’t keep it and if were in season it’s to small anyway. Suddenly the guy didn’t understand english until we got close to the dock and he was told if fish and game or state police are at the dock and search him he would be fined, he understood perfect English then! He throws the fish back but it was already dead. Pissed me off. This is why things are so F’d up in their countries. They don’t let fish grow. Great job reporting them.

You Sir are a man of integrity and patience. The more I watched the more upset I got with those poachers. We have them here by the truckload. Taking shorts or whatever they can hook. There still an honor in real fishermen around here & I know some why will even throw these poachers’ fish back. I try to help by keeping them preoccupied talking to them. NO ONE is talking about the sheer amount of illegal fishing being done by the foreign invaders. All summer, wherever I went to paddle board or even lake beaches to swim, I saw people fishing that I knew damn well didn't have a license. EVERYWHERE. And when I started fishing, I saw even more using nets and weird setups on their lines (I guess it was snagging) to catch whatever. Why is this an example of why it’s legal to open carry other than the fact that you want to sound like a tough guy? That is most definitely not “why” it’s legal to open carry while hunting and fishing. That law was created for that perceived need for self-defense against dangerous WILDLIFE in remote outdoor areas not people. Self defense from things like bears, big cats, snakes or alligators, etc that could pose a threat, especially when immediate access to a firearm might be necessary. It was not intended to be for self defense from people, that is more of a loophole people are using. Carring for self defense from people fall under your normal arm laws. So while that may fit in it is not “why”. Absolutely nothing happened where he even came close to needing to defend himself. If anything he was the one being aggressive, confronting those people and getting upset. I’m not saying he was wrong and I wouldn’t have done similar but there is zero reason to bring firearms into the situation. That shows me that me that maybe you shouldn’t be carrying if an argument over fishing legality (right or wrong) is going to get you such a volatile situation that a weapon gets pulled. An argument can always go south that is not why that law exists when it comes to fishing. And no I’m not anti firearms, I am licensed to carry and am pro firearms.
@captainconstitution42384 күн бұрын
@PennyTrayshun-u8u Not for intimidation, but for protection. I meant the fact that he was one guy in the wilderness against 4 guys. Especially because the 1 guy was yelling at the other 4 for doing illegal things, and they don't care that they do it right in front of him. Sketchy out there all alone. People mess with fishermen a lot, and you never know when it's going to be necessary to defend yourself. Yes, the law was written to defend against animal attacks, but the Constitution was written, so it was never infringed upon in the first place. Have you ever seen someone fishing need a wildlife officer? Sometimes, it takes hours for them to reach you.

I had this large pond I fished as a kid in upstate NY that was such an amazing fishing hole. Had bass, carp, bluegill, perch and even sometimes after a flood pike would get stuck in it. The Susquehanna River was 50 feet from it. Anyways 1980’s amazing fishing and no one ever kept anything from it. Was a gravel pit and the water was toxic. Town tried to build a park there many times but land kept failing tests so basically wasn’t safe for people to even have a park at. Anyways fast forward to mid 00’s and during the winter of all months these Chinese fisherman would be on the ice and taking anything that bit. I would bring my son to ice skate and practice hockey there sometimes and since I grew up there would go talk to them. I would see they would have buckets with tiny bluegills and really small bass. They turned that great fishing spot into a place you can’t find fish in anymore. After a few years of this they totally cleaned it out. I can’t imagine how unsafe those fish are to eat. You can see rusty barrels and tires at the bottom of the lake. I guess they just don’t care about how unsafe the fish are. It’s free food I guess. I mean what do you do with a tiny bluegill? Fry it whole and eat it? That quarry was the best place as a kid for so many reasons. Loved those long summer days fishing, building forts and doing so many other things.

Same thing happened to a pond near my house. The owner was a military friend of my dad and we would get 2 dozen shiners on friday or saturday night and have a blast. Property was sold a number of years later and when i got back into fishing and looking for local haunts for my friends kids I asked the new owners if we could have permission to fish. It was a swift NO. I told them I completely understand, then i got the back story. Apparently after the property was acquired by them, a few people from the nearby development were coming in at night and taking all the bass out of the pond to eat. He had it electro surveyed when they got the property and shortly after he found out about this problem and the bass population was reduced to 15% of what it was. So yeah, shit happens all the time all over the country and no one can really do much about it but hope and wait.

We had a similar problem at our pick your own farm. They go in to the sweet corn and stuff themselves. At checkout one of them would buy a single ear of corn. Lost so much money because they came back. We stopped the pick your own because of it. We also caught people stealing the other product. The mom and kid would go pick a small bag of fruit and the father would stuff the trunk of the car with produce. Caught them too. But we lost a lot of produce to people doing this. Mostly foreigners doing it

It's happening here on the Ohio River in Cincinnati at Meldahl dam on the KY side of the river. Not snagging but way overlimit on stripers and hybrid stripers. Keeping huge smallmouth that I'd catch and release. Asians over the last several years. No etiquette towards other fisherman. Also ran into a younger Asian guy at East Fork spillway snagging bass with huge treble hooks in the spillway channel. People report to the DNR but nothing gets done.

We see this same goonery in Western NY on our tribs during salmon/steelhead season, which is basically now through early April. Wannabe anglers out flossing like they're life-long dentists. I don't understand the logic with these snaggers...they probably shell out a few hundred bucks for their tackle and equipment, and show up thinking "nice, some free salmon/steelhead to snag out of the creek and toss on the dinner table for fish taco Tuesday." They would've been far better off going to the grocery store and just buying some whole salmon. A lot of these guys don't realize they're eating fish out of creeks that are contaminated with PCB's, raw sewage, dioxins, you name it. The creeks are highly polluted compared to the lakes...if these goon snaggers realized this they probably wouldn't be out there snagging in the first place. Check those creeks on Google maps...you'll see sewage treatment plants sitting on almost all of them. On a side note, props for tying those on with gloves on...something I've never been able to do lol. What you're seeing on the creeks is why I'm nearly done with them...I'd much rather be out on my boat fishing in peace and quiet, where there's no snaggers to be found anywhere.

When i go fishing somewhere, and i see another person fishing. I give them so much space they would need a megaphone to speak to me. Fishing is supposed to be a calming experience. Plus those guys in the beginning most likely come from a place where you crowd everyone everyday. A culture of no respect basically. And then when you confront them on their b.s, you get the old "me a speaka no English". I try to put myself in their shoes, but if we went to their homeland and acted that way i highly doubt they would be ok with it. God bless 🙏

By reading a lot of the comments it seems to me that our Pennsylvania wardens are overwhelmed and just can't get to the places. We don't have that big of an issue yet in Southeast Pennsylvania but from what I hear it's happening. I remember years ago the state would deputize people to help with enforcement. In New York I went salmon fishing where snagging was illegal. I watched as plain clothes wardens would watch, take pictures, and haul the fisherman in. Looks like we need this too
