This is literally better than some Pentrex stuff I have seen over the years. Much higher quality of film, great locations and background prop choices in shots. Even has much more informative captions. Fantastic work Mr. Loevy.

I think single - tracking this line was a short - sighted idea

I worked on a track gang on this track in1981 when I graduated high school. We replaced every other tie and ribbon rail was put down on both north and south bound tracks. The gang was at Champaign when I started. I was laid off when we were about 30 miles from Chicago. They spent millions doing all this work. Wasn't too many years later they abandoned one set of tracks and removed it. Never could get on full-time. The years after that were tough years for many railroads. My father retired out of the Clinton shops in 86. He had 38 years of service. He was an engine mechanic. He loved working for the Illinois Central.

You'll notice what would happen with the IC about six cars back on the first IC freight train out of Chebanse.

Sixth freight car in the consist with the two SD20s is the railroad that would eventually take over the IC.

Yes Scooby, I would say very prophetic. I'm not thrilled to loose the mainline of mid America to the Canadians.

Norfolk Southern gave up on the 5053 (CNG rebuild) and sold it off after storing it for several years. I don't know where it went, but it would not surprise me at all if it ends up being scrapped.

Professional video and descriptions as usual. At 22:33, what did the 58 signify after the "City of New Orleans"?
@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos2 жыл бұрын
58 is the train number, like the California Zephyr are trains 5 and 6 and the Southwest Chief are trains 3 and 4.

Pretty cool, I grew up the Kankakee, Bradley, Bourbonnais area. Rt 45 was always the place to see and race along side the tracks, Literally from S Chicago all the way past Buckley, Illinois. I remember that old tow truck along the tracks in Buckley... I delivered newspaper bundles to paperboys for the Kankakee Daily Journal in the 80s and early 90s. thru Chebanse, Clifton, Ashkum, Danforth, Gilman, Onarga, Buckley, Crescent City, Chatsworth and Piper City... Oh the memories.
@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos6 жыл бұрын
Hello Jessica. So, the video was more about the locations for you than the trains? Which is fine. I'm glad you enjoyed the show. Do you know if the old tow truck is still in Buckley?
@JessicaTG20086 жыл бұрын
LOL, no Walt, I'm not into railfanning as a hobby but trains have always fascinated me. I came across your posting in my feed and since it said Illinois I took a look. I was amazed when I recognized the areas and your video was from the early 90s. I moved away from that area around that time and now I live in sunny Florida... hot, humid, hurricane bullseye Florida lol. I enjoyed your video, the trains and locations from that era just bring back memories, that's a good thing Walt, videos and photos should do just that and you nailed it for me.
@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos6 жыл бұрын
Yay! It's always a good feeling to reach an appreciative audience outside of the railfan community. Someday I'll get back to the old IC and see how much has changed. :)

@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos6 жыл бұрын
Do you mean regarding the entire former Illinois Central system? All I can tell you is that the IC slimmed down to essentially a single track mainline with passing sidings on its core Chicago-New Orleans mainline. Beyond that, I don't know.

After the Canadian National and Illinois Central merged in 99 Canadian national has scrapped most of the locomotives in this video
@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos5 жыл бұрын
Sad, but very true. Some locomotives did find other homes on other railroads, such as Wisconsin Southern or leasing company NREX (Nat'l Rwy Equipment).
