Illinois community demands accountability from leaders in Sonya Massey's death

Springfield, Illinois, residents demanded accountability from local leadership Monday, weeks after Sangamon County sheriff's deputy Sean Grayson shot and killed Sonya Massey in her home. CBS News has since learned Grayson, who had worked for six police departments since 2020, had a history of disciplinary issues.

wrong, to make sure she was the owner and not the so called intruder, use your brain, to them they could be talking to the intruder who may of killed and hid the body, so that is why you ask for ID, did you even read the report or just some cop hater fighting the ghetto fight?

Every single person who had anything to do with the hiring of that guy needs discipline or to be let go. All you have to do is look at the FIRST page of his resume, and see he was let go by Kincaid (after 3 months!), girard, auburn and 2 other places bcz they knew he was a loose cannon, a liar, and a ticking time bomb. Even the US Army saw that guy was dangerous. And someone hires him at Sangamon??????

Allegedly he was a WEP (White, Entitled Person) hire. His fiance's father who was also a high ranking officer called the department and asked that they hire him. Justice for Sonya Massey😢.

What I can not understand why his partner drew his gun with a finger on the trigger. He could clearly see what was going on, yet he did nothing ,not even shouting stand down. Clearly just has much blame as the murdering officer.

This is not just an issue about one man. This is an issue with the entire accountability of the police departments across the US. When they swear an oath to uphold and protect the constitution, that is exactly what they should do. There needs to be more strict consideration of the rules they are supposed to follow. Too many officers abuse their power and not only get to keep their job, but they are often protected. There needs to be a social credit score for when police make errors. I have gotten fired for jobs for infinitely less facing poverty for doing less than the smallest offenses this guy committed. This guy doesn't even wanna take accountability for UNALIVING NOT ONLY AN INNOCENT PERSON, BUT A WOMAN OF GOD!!!! When the people who are supposed to protect society mess up, it doesn't just cost money, it also makes the world a worse place. The world just lost a great woman due to the lack of accountability of our law enforcement 😢

I would like to know if it is true that she had an encounter with the officers wife or gf earlier that day at the hospital where the officers wife/gf worked? Also it is rumored that the police killed her nephrew while responding to a dev call made by her sister that killed the sister’s husband or bf. If this is true that family was stalked and how did Grayson get her info? This has to stop please. 😭

What needs to happen is an overhaul of the onboarding hiring process. In the pre-employment hiring phase why were the references not checked? With a state/law enforcement role their should be a central database shared by the state to be able to vet out if LEO was terminated in another county. However with the "Check The Box" hiring laws Illinois has enacted that could create this environment to continue as you do not have to disclose crim background information. I think in the case of LEO hiring the vetting process and reference checking should be updated to prevent future instances of bad apples.

One important factor that people often don’t realize is that police unions are different from every other labor union. Labor Unions exist as a way for the less powerful working class to advocate for their own needs in the face of massive corporate power and wealth, which also translates to political power. Police officers, as the enforcement arm of the government, literally exist as a tool of the power structure labor unions are struggling with to achieve parity.

Sonya Massey should have never obliged the officer coming into her house. He first asked Sonya if she was there alone or was someone else there with her. He was checking to see if there would be any potential witnesses before he acted a fool with her. This is exactly what this rough upset officer did in this video. This man's refusal to allow this knowledge (home alone or not) may have saved his life. This officer didn't know how to react to his potentially justified escape plan being ✋ stopped. Not today said this Vet. Remember the New Orleans man shot, burned, and killed after Katrina? The officers covered it up but was later investigated and all types of issues were discovered about the situation. For some academic institution or think tank to study, an easy way to test if police reform is doing anything is to see if departments are setting any kind of standard for police officers, firing some for not meeting the standard, and creating some sort of blacklist so they aren't rehired elsewhere.

That’s where you are wrong, all of the unconstitutional gun laws in Illinois exempt government employees AND noncitizens functioning as a government agent. There are several lawsuits pending on this exact thing right now. Rules for thee not for me is the mentally of a monarchy which is what Illinois is, god save king double cheeseburger.
