It's simple. His 14th Amendment rights were violated along with his 5th Amendment rights. A prosecutor made a deal with him that he won't be prosecuted and dropped the initial charges. He would later be charged and convicted. A prosecutor can't say that they won't charge someone but do it anyway because that is a violation of a defendants civil rights. Hence, why is conviction was overturned.

Although there was a huge public outrage to what Amie Cooper had done, the Prosecutor's office had her complete a rehabilitation programme !!!! There was no prosecuting Amie Cooper again although the black community was upended by the hoax phone call and wanted the white woman sent straight to prison !!!
