Thanks for you great 3 part video series. Today, I worked on my first K1200LT 2003? with 40K miles that belonged to a friend in a local MC club - rear tire lost all of the air from the base of the valve stem. I use bar clamps to squish the tire so I could pull a new valve stem through problem solved. On the way home he drove his car and I drove his motorcycle. Wow was I impressed. Transmission shifting - best I have ever felt on any bike. Suspension, general handling smooth linear power delivery throttle response, stereo, etc about as good as it gets but... I noticed the clutch grabbed way out near the end of travel with no slipping yet. So I googled clutch replacement. Unreal! Only pros need apply. Years ago I punished myself with a used '92 K75S. I did a clutch spline lube and I though that was a workout but the LT is more than a different beast / planet.... it's a different universe. Makes the K75 splinelube look like something you pull over and do on the side of the road because you are bored. Currently, own a 2012 Honda NC700X with 35K trouble-free miles - clutch is 80% worn from previous owner but a 1 hr job. Very different ride / design than 1200LT but hard to beat for reliability and simplicity. A possible 'dream bike' for me would be a 600lb wet K1000LT that was good for 100K plus before tearing it apart. Still amazed that I could not tell the bike was in 1st gear or other gears when shifting. Conclusion... Ultimate driving machine and when repairs come due Ultimate nightmare.

Hi Kirk! Thanks to you I've done my clutch replacement with confidence. The 3 videos are very usefull. I can say that the Clymer is not so easy to understand and sometimes operations are not really necessary. Again thank you a lot for that. Richard from France.

Thanks for the class Kirk, I will definitely support your Patreon! I have done this service on the other model: RT, and while the job is not easy at all, it is still way less work than LT model. Got to Love BMW. Salutes and respect from San Diego California!

You are the Man! what a job. That is a tremendous amount of work, could not imagine how much the dealer or a pro wrench would charge for that it would be thousands just in labor. I was looking at a 2000 lt i am having second thoughts.

WHo designed this bike? Engineering genius or sadist? Good video. I'm thinking I wouldn't want to do this job.

The job isnt all that bad... The first time you rip the bike down say over winter and you have time. You want to do somethings just so you dont have come back later and do it again.. The rip down should take ya like a day (about 8hrs) or just a few nights after work..

It's amazing all the work one has to go through just to do minor normal maintenance. Once I sell my K1200lt I promise to never even look at another BMW. I just replaced the fuel pump and I was surprised I didn't have to remove the headlight to do it as the rest of the bike was stripped naked. I think the big issue is I spent my life working on normal motorcycles so I am spoiled.

It's not a motorcycle with a clutch, it's a clutch with a motorcycle around it! (Quote stolen from a friend after he had a dealer change the ventilation fan on his old Volvo)

Hey Kirk, Regarding the stuck gearbox while removing - somehow managed to get it off, but now it is stuck while bolting it back on - on the same two spots. Any recommendations for this? Can't seem to find any info anywhere.. mine is K1200RS.

High rev's on the clutch takes them out fast.. Its a fat girl and she got some weight on her.. She likes low rev's when starting and letting that clutch out, this will prolong the life. My 2000 LT has over 75k+ miles on the OEM clutch and she's holding strong. I also ride 2up 99% of the time.. A 540 lbs weight and have had little problems with things.. I really like where BMW went with the new bikes.. They did away with the dry clutch.. Its now a wet one...

Did you do the clutch ? i also have a 98 K12RS, and need to do the seal, the clutch has about 5k kms on it , and now its slipping, so reckon the seal was either not replaced with the new clutch, or has blown. Any tips would be appreciated. 20 March 2020.

This is why I ride a Harley, Clutch $100, Gasket $17, Primary oil $15, 6 pack of beer $10, Not having to do this is.....Priceless. I priced just the wear parts for this job at $1000 and local dealer labor is 2000. A guy asked asked me to do this for him and after watching this video i declined the job. I was going to charge 1500. Id rather watch grass grow. SMH

My goodness! Is this really just changing the clutch or a lesson in dismantling the bike. If this is the case. BMW going to charge like $5 million dollars to change the clutch!
