as a teenage girl i really love illit's concept and music and the soft like heisei retro, shouju anime-esque nature of it all, so hearing the english lyrics for tick tack was unbelievable jarring. i assumed it would be a love song like cherish with cute video game references...not a song about having sex with ur toxic partner. it was really disappointing especially as a younger fan who appreciates their concept so much. the whole thing just gave me a massive ick.

Like, yes, it is possible that the connotations were explained to the artist, but we just can't be sure? Well, not just Hybe. I feel like every newer group from every company with minors debuting are singing and dancing like this (That's why, I am actually missing out a lot of girlgroup songs now-a-days.) This is why minors shouldn't debut when the company's plan is to make them sing sexualized songs. But then, simply calling out Hybe won't work. It's simplifying the issue and singling out one single company. From what I see, it seems like it's an industry wide problem from old times given how girlgroups from past had similar issues too. At least, I am glad Illit fans are refusing to support this song.

Btw a random question - Itzy released an English version of "Wannabe" a few years ago and 16 year old Yuna (at that time) sang the line "Good girls always finish last" and I always have been thrown off by that onw line. The original song is actually just about Moka having a crush on a boy, Ava max and some other people rewrote the English version of tick-tack. And illit is actually (17-21) in Korean age. There’s three members that are the same age, Yunah Minju and Moka they are 21 Wonhee is 18 and iroha is 17

I 100% agree this is a problem with hybe but this is also a systemic problem and not just from them, it's all over kpop. For years. Examples: 1. Nine muses debuted with a song called no playboy, Ryu Sera (ex leader) cried talking about how the song and the dance moves where sexualizing the younger members (freshly 18) and it was inappropriate. She has a KZbin channel and you can find her talking about it there. (Ik she wasn't a minor internationally as she was 18 but still) 2. Stellar cried also talking about how the maknae was sexualized with milk when she was 18. She said she isn't able to drink milk due to the trauma. 3. Tzuyu when she was a minor dancing in the elevator. 4. Confused by aoa was released in 2013 when maknae chanmi was 17. 5. I was and still am a wizone but we can't deny the fact that during PD48 Wonyoung was dancing a song with inappropriate lyrics. 6. Produce 101, again, Somi being a minor dancing to bang bang. I could name more. I think hybe is awful managing their minors and should clearly be called out but let's not act as if they're the only ones in the industry that have done it.

@@anoeji more than the lyrics, AOA's confused is about the dance moves. There's a little mention of "that night" but I don't think the lyrics is explicit or anything remotely. However the dance and the concept were the ones that opened the door for the group to be known for a sexy concept and Chanmi was still 17. The dance moves, even if she's not at the center, she's still doing them. I was a kid when I listened to the song and I liked it but as adult, I know a 17 year old shouldn't have done that dance. Idk. And yeah, I agree totally with the video, I just wanted to say this because some people truly believe this is just a hybe issue. *Glad someone found the info 💜

So far we have seen ADOR do this with NJ (when MHJ was the CEO, considering now they’ve changed the staff and ceo they might be better?) and Source music with LSF and now BELIFT with ILLIT. But for other subsidiaries is it fair to boycott them based of their ‘neighbours’ actions. For example, I’ve never seen big hit music sexualise TXT or BTS while they were minors, how about Pledis with Seventeen? I’ve not seen &Team or Boynexdoor have this issue either (Hybe Japan and Koz ent) but correct me if I’m wrong. Imo it seems like the subsidiary should be targeted specifically rather than the whole umberalla company which only provides them with funding, loans and connections.

I don't know if it is the change in society in the world or over there of what. Totally agree with the minors thing, always have, but honestly though, other than aespa, (especially with the 4th / 5th gen) hybe groups are the only ones with music I genuinely enjoy. And the nwjns drama makes me want to lowkey victim stan illit so do with that what you will. I think the english lyrics point is noteworthy. There have been countless times I've listened to a song and been like "Do you know what you're saying lol". Especially when it's minors it's just creepy.

The thing about them not knowing the meaning of what they say in a different language is real. This week Billlie posted a tiktok with Tsuki dancing a spanish song which says things VERY explicit. If the song was sing in korean they would've not posted it. So in ILLIT case they may know the literal meaning but not the connotation it has. It is disgusting profiting of minors singing those lyrics.

Maturing is realizing hybe is a terrible company. This reminds me of cookie, where they were singing take it, break it I wanna see you taste it. Something with looking at my cookie and white chocolate. Like what the actual fuck? A lot of young girls think hybe will help them.. but they’re becoming puppets. Kpop stans are generally hypocritical, but this is about the english version of a song while the cookie incident was about the song itself (and in their first mini-album) + a lot of the discourse was about ADOR's response. I haven't seen anyone defending the lyrics and there just seems to be fewer eyes on it because Illit's less popular than they were (no offense) so fewer people are listening to the Korean version of the song compared to Cookie (let alone the English version).

I had no idea they even dropped this remix and I’m disgusted. There’s a few differences of opinion on some of the choreo (and the term “slut drop”), but having children singing sexualizing lyrics to an audience that they know for a fact includes nasty adult men who see them as “healthy corn” is disturbing. I remember when Min Heejin gaslit us about NewJeans’ “Cookie” by saying it was about some freakin cds, and only this year did Hybe try to say they initially flagged it for inappropriate lyrics but Min Heejin released it anyway. Well what’s the excuse here? I don’t want to hear in three years time Hybe says “we flagged it”. NO. THIS IS GROSS, FULL STOP. And yes, I absolutely believe they’re taking advantage of the fact that these kids and their domestic audience don’t speak English or understand the underlying context of the words they’re saying. Going back to Cookie, I remember Korean listeners calling native English speakers weird for sexualizing the lyrics because they literally thought they were singing about freaking baked goods (which also contradicts MHJ’s CD explanation). Korean speakers didn’t even write the original song; Europeans did, and naive teenagers performed it trusting the adults who are supposed to protect them. Sexualization of youth is a pervasive issue in the industry that companies clearly want to cater to adult men and women because of their buying power, but I don’t think it’s wrong to “single out” Hybe. Hybe is supposed to be an industry leader with “principles” (whatever those are) and yet they’re reinforcing the industry standard of sexualizing children. These kids don’t know any better, they’re just doing what they think will grow their popularity. It’s so sinister. I’m an ARMY who cheers on both Illit and Le Sserafim, and wrote an email to Min Heejin’s Ador when Cookie was released, so I’m going to do the same to Belift. There’s so much exploitation of youth it’s sick and I desperately want it to end. All of Le Sserafim’s members are adults now and I wasn’t paying close attention to them during some of their choreo controversy, so however Eunchae deals with that as an adult is up to her now. In any case thank you so much for bringing this to the attention of those not in the know. I urge everyone to use the report feature on Hybe’s website to complain directly to Belift for this being approved.
