POV from someone who's played ALL the games: I've made friends in the EN and JP fandom and at this point everyone's in on the joke that it's no-plot fanservice It's funny how self aware DL fans are in both countries. Fun fact: In the VP (drama CD) the VA's never call the listener 'Yui' because her name was never intended to be Yui Komori (It's not that interesting but it's a fact!) At the end of the day as a 20 year olds women I have very different feelings toward the anime then when I was 14 but I appreciate the memories it gave me and the friends I made in the fandom 💕 Thankyou for the video! It's extremely interesting to see someones un-baised perspective on the anime. I can't believe I forgot how silly it was 😅

When I was in school, I lied about liking anime to be cool (which was honestly a stupid idea to remember about) then this girl asked me if I watched diabolik lovers and since I was a total people pleaser I obviously said yes and when I went home I spent the rest of the day watching it. and I was traumatized. It didn't even make any sense like Yui is so dumb it's actually kind of funny, I only finished watching it because I thought Ayato was hot and I kind of shipped him and Yui. i really have to emphasize to people that doesnt know anything about anime. Diabolik lovers is one of those anime where its considered "otome anime". aka, it is MAINLY MADE for its ALREADY EXISTING FANS. Each episode is each significant scene from every route in the game so if u watch it without context from the game AT ALL, u WILL be confused and not enjoyable for you. Its essentially the game company's way to show how the scenes would pan out and to show how each of the fan's favorite charas would look like moving/under a animated setting. Theres plenty of such animes, but i guess if you're new to anime in it itself, you would be confused. when u play a otome light novel game, its just sprites and sound effects with text box. so seeing them animated like this is a dream come true to alot of the fans from the game. if you're gonna watch the anime, don watch the english dubbed.

Kaname is her ancestor not her brother, her actual brother was killed to revive him and he was raised as her brother by her parents. Yeah its even weirder than you thought, I still enjoy it but its one of those don't think too hard about it plots (like kingdom hearts). So its technically still incest since they were purebloods and there was no genetic diversity like in the other non pureblood families.

I remember reading a whole wiki page about this anime cuz I was so invested in the lack of plot lol and I'm surprised how much of the lore you covered. I often think about how DL could have potentially been very peak if they actually adapted it correctly and included all the plot. It could have been a really good conversation for childhood trauma and its effects. We often only talk about how weird all the brothers are but the more you find out about their childhood, the more you see how and why they turned out that way. I wish those aspects were included in a better adaptation so that the potential of the plot wasn't just wasted like this

Guys I might sound suspicious because I was 12 when I discovered this but the games are good. And when I mean games I mean only the first one. Firstly because it’s an otome game, so you only basically interact with one of the brothers at a time. Secondly because it really did have a plot behind the sadistic and submissive stuff ok. The main objective was of course, for it to be appealing to teen girls/ young adult women with those kinds of preferences… But the plot is basically (spoilers): You’re an actual sacrifice send to the mansion. Thats why the title of the first game is “Diabolik lovers: Haunted dark bridal”. The Sakamakis are royalty and their father (the king) is basically sending girls to them so one of them marries her and like…gains advantage in becoming the new king? Theres also this thing with the “awakening”. In this universe you don’t become a vampire by getting bitten, you become a vampire by spending time with them and living their lifestyle. In the meantime the mother of the triplets, Cordelia, gets literally killed by them because she was…erm…not very nice, her lover, their uncle, puts her heart in Yui at some point (?) so that when Yui awakens Cordelia comes back again in her body. Like…that’s the plot. There’s also some cool stuff the anime doesn’t cover, like, the fact that Yui’s father isn’t a priest and is actually a vampire hunter. The church is working with the vampires, etc. The characters also don’t seem very one dimensional to me because of each route. In each one of them you get to know them, their flaws, their traumas, etc. much more than in the anime. The other games just introduce useless characters and more plot holes in my opinion. Like what do you mean by Adam and Eve?? Stick to the original script…. There’s also lots of other inconsistencies but..yeah. It’s more interesting than it seems! I guess

I legit don't remember how or where I found this anime, I only remember it being a guilty pleasure of mine when i was like 12-13 because I KNEW it was bad. Not to mention the amount of aggressive and loud slurps/moans it had. I just stayed for the hot guys (I liked Laito and Subaru). Yui was insufferably annoying, and I hated how vulnerable she was (I didn't know she was a minor, so now it just makes so much sense). I also don't remember the lore being this dark, all I knew was they all had mommy issues, that's all I could comprehend back then. I always wanted to play the games, but they were PS3 and Japan exclusive. I was so into otome games as a teen, and wanted to experience the games since I was sure they were probably miles better than the anime. I will say, outside of the anime and games, I actually enjoyed (and still actively do) the music/songs that were made for Diabolik Lover. Mr Sadistic Night; Fanatic of Night; GUILTY; Bloody Sabbath; ect. The music slapped.

As someone who cosplays DL and owns, plays, and have translated many game routes, I can tell you: The over all plot has so many holes, but is still a really interesting story. Dark Fate is easily the best game and honestly should have been the last game in my opinion. If anyone has any questions about the series, I'd love to try to answer them! What was it about some 1990's-2010's anime? Card Captor originally had pedophilia and so does Sailor Moon in the original since she's also a minor and her love interest is a college student. At least Crystal seemed to fix their ages so they're much closer in age. Wedding Peach I watched a little bit of and it was just... so weird I do not remember anything about it but it being weird. Even the books I read in highschool were a bit weird, like The Pellinor Series had an age gap romance but it was not as bad as some others I have read. Chanters of Tremaris had a much bigger age gap romance. There was a pirate romance I read in middle school that was age gap.... Just what was wrong with everyone making these?!
