As a regular movie, it's like 6/10. As a Mario movie, it is an 11/10. It is the perfect blend of everything that makes Mario great, fan service that's not nauseating and makes sense for the movie and its script, expansions on characters that work in context of giving them more to do while never forgetting that this is Mario's movie, the music, everything. It's also incredibly funny and captures the wackiness and ridiculousness of Mario's world really well. I've been a fan of Mario my whole life and to say I and so many are protective of him is the understatement of the millennia. And I swore up and down that this film would not work, especially with Illumination's track record. And I have never been so happy to be so wrong. These people's love for the games is on full display and it is infectious. I'm very excited to see where the franchise will go. Hopefully Luigi's Mansion will be in the future.

I wasn't even a Mario fan before I watched this movie, I knew almost nothing about the franchise. And yet when I saw the trailer I decided that I wanted to watch it. I found the world it portrayed intriguing and beautiful, the action scenes seemed promising, the animation looked amazing and the brothers seemed like a wholesome duo. So I watched it as a regular movie, without any nostalgia glasses. The result? I guess my current profile pic speaks for itself. Let's just say that the movie sucked me into the world of Mario games and the fandom like the warp pipe sucked Mario and Luigi into the Mushroom World. Also it's the only movie I've ever watched in a theater as many as 3 times (worth it!). It's honestly one of my favorite movies now. I disagree with most common criticisms: the pacing was good, didn't feel too fast to me (contrary to Across the Spider-Verse for example); and yes it did have a story - a rather simple one but sometimes simple can be enjoyable, at least it was easy to follow; it wasn't completely plotless like some people say. So I would give it AT LEAST 9/10 even as just a movie. But hey, I get it, these things are subjective. Just wanted to give you guys a different perspective.

It's hard to imagine this movie released on near my 33rd birthday last year. I actually was highly surprised with it in a good way. Loved the many references I was able to discover on my two times watching it in it's length of being in the theaters, with one in 3d and in 2d from whichever was cheaper on sale at the time in my area. I just loved how Illumination did respect the source material of the overall world of Mario for us fans. Also I walked in with low expectations as one should mostly do due to most film in this day n age, I was brilliantly surprised on how well chris did voicing Mario in a mario-esque voice instead of his own voice which was a surprise well done. I still give it a solid 9/10. which is rare for my case highest i ever rate films i watch are 9. Now that this setup the Nintendo cinematic universe now. Since they're already doing a zelda movie. I so would love a animated zelda movie linking orcorina of time with majors mask in a 2 n a half hours length down the road someday. Also score was amazingly well done and so was the rythum of the pacing. Also it's going to be interesting with movies now that Nintendo is giving making movies another try again. I"m up for this crazy ride though. :)

I think it was good, but it definitely needed more scenes for Luigi, it's called the Super Mario _Bros._ Movie after all. I also think there was originally music designed for a few of the scenes, but Illumination went with pop culture music.

People saying Princess Peach in the games has little personality and is just a damsel in distress have clearly not made any research, read the comics or played even one Mario RPG. Her characterisation in this film wasn’t anything groundbreaking or of note. She’s always been an amazing character.

I wouldn't say "always," but you're right that Dazz is absolutely misrepresenting Peach here by acting like her blankness of the NES Era has remained true for entire history simply because of her getting captured. Paper Mario and various RPGs have given her a fleshed out personality that doesn't abandon her feminine roots. Even the Nintendo Power comic from 1993 did the badass Peach angle way before the movie did and much better in my opinion.

I love this movie, but I get the feeling it won’t be looked back on as fondly in the far off future. When you read between the lines, Illumination was using it to set up future movies. Disappointed by Luigi being sidelined? No problem! Not only will he have equal screentime to Mario in the sequel, but he's getting his own movie! Want to know more about the Kong Army? Look out for The Donkey Kong Movie! It's basically SCOOB. The only difference being that Mario made more than enough money to kickstart these projects. If the storyboard leak from last month is anything to go by, then Miyamoto and Meledandri have taken complaints on board. I can see there being a huge shakeup moving on. Mario, Luigi and Peach will be the main stars, while Toad is given a significantly diminished role and DK is namedropped only. Yoshi and Daisy will take their places. The sequels and spin-offs will slow the pacing down, and have stronger stories. They'll outdo the first movie and make its flaws more noticeable.

This was my most anticipated movie of 2023, and one year later, it's still a blast. I'm still split between this and Sonic 2 as my favorite video game movie. honestly one of my problems in this movie is the mini mushroom, if you get hit with a mini mushroom in the game you lose a life, this could have been solved in my opinion by replacing the losing a power up sound with a 1-up sound.

The licensed music ended up being the worst thing about the movie. I didn't care for Pratt and Taylor-Joys takes on their respective characters, but you get used to them pretty quick. The licensed music though really broke my immersion every single time it came on. Even using the traditional Wedding March theme was bad because they didn't even bother "bowserfying" it.

I would have liked to see Rosalina and Daisy also, but I wouldn't want them to just appear on screen just to check off boxes. This movie did a pretty good job of tying all of the references to plot threads and world building, and Pauline was on screen for like a second talking to the news when Brooklyn was flooding. None of it felt unwelcome or nauseating or like it was just there for the sake of fanservice and nothing else.

Miyamoto, having worked on video games for 40 years, is used to taking criticism on board. I can already say that the sequel will be what Shrek 2 was to Shrek 1 because Mario and Luigi are going on an actual adventure together with a stronger story.

There are actually many easter eggs and references that they can put in the next movies. The RPGs alone have thousands of things that they can reference. They can have more galaxy references, Yoshi Wario and even other Nintendo franchises and more. Remember the first movie had references from Mario Odyssey and more Recent games. they can already make a few references to wonder peach showtime and since the switch 2 will be released next year, a lot of New Mario games will be released

So lately on Nin10doland, I've been doing some research about the Mario Movie Remake which is on the Nintendo Entertainment 4000. The story was after the Events of the Mario Movie and the story was Kung Fu Panda 4. This is where the time that Agent 3 and his Friends investigate a portal to another world in the Mushroom Kingdom. Donkey Kong told them that he saw the portal in a nearby mushroom which means Agent 1, Agent 3 (The Super Mario Bros Movie) Agent 4, Agent 8, and Agent 3 (Meg 2 The Trench) we're all investigating with him until the portal sucks Agent 3 from the Mario Movie inside. And then sooner, he ends up in a place full of peace which is called: China. He landed on a bridge when he was a bit out cold, he was waking up when he saw a manta ray trying to attack him and then an unknown panda saved him and took him to his place. Then Agent 3 was awoken and was in a room with the panda who rescued him with a red panda and a tiger. The Panda's name was Po, the red panda's name was Shifu, and the Tiger's name was Tigeress. These three characters have teamed up with Agent 3 to stop a villain who wants villians to rula China. Honestly... I liked Chris Pratt as Mario. Even though at first I was part of the crew that was sour over the casting of him, I surprisingly came around to him. I think he did really well as Mario, after watching the movie something about him just kinda fit really really nicely. Jack Black as Bowser was a perfect 10/10 ...But Seth Rogan as DK... Nah. Still can not get over that one. :L I liked how DK and Mario interacted, but I really just couldn't... *like* DK because everything out of his mouth made me think "Ah, Seth Rogan is talking again."

is a WAHOO #ANNIVERSARY for what is considered as one of the greatest animated films of all time beyond the achievement (even specially in non-Disney standards) of animation blockbusters since Lion King (the classic one) and Toy Story, even I would award it as the BEST IP ANIMATED FILM OF THE YEAR (2023) #THESUPERMARIOBROSMOVIE even though it was snubbed on the Oscars, it still should have been nominated to even win it other than another japanese production which was the complex Boy and the Heron, and that could have been a demonstration that sometimes most critics can be underestimating animated gems like this, with a script manageably written to make a well structured storyline that may be simple and not that complex, but thanks to the amazing execution and the now forgivable yet iconic voice of #ChrisPratt plus other voice actors, you have now a historic video game animated film that is now #PEAKCINEMA beyond #animationcinema , and in the self commented words combined by Guillermo del Toro and Luigi: #THATISCINEMA 😎🎬

i think in 19 more years you could make another retrospective thats two seconds long and just says "it was okay" i cant imagine this movie being much of a landmark, it wasnt even really the first half decent video game movie

When all the other movies come out, the flaws that this movie has will become more prominent. People will say it was poorly paced, the story was weak with wasted potential and Luigi needed more to do.

My pro about this movie is that it’s neither worke or anti woke, cause I like the part where peach explained how she got to be a princess. And my con is that peach and Luigi switched roles. if Nintendo and illumination gets their roles back to normal in the sequel, I will watch it. Otherwise I will say meh to the Mario movies.

I think Dazz is really misrepresenting Peach here by acting like her blankness of the NES Era has remained true for her entire history simply because of her getting captured. Paper Mario and various RPGs have given her a fleshed out personality that doesn't abandon her more feminine roots. Even the Nintendo Power comic from 1993 did the badass Peach angle way before the movie did and much better in my opinion. Movie Peach seems very boring to me. It's like they took the bland version of her and just swapped out the damsel for the fighter. It doesn't matter if you switch one for the other, bland is still bland.
