Illustrated Life of Artist Maniam | Sivagamiyin Sabatham | Ponniyin Selvan | Partiban Kanavu

Artist Maniam is celebrated for his paintings and illustrations. His famed artworks were featured in Kalki's Sivagamiyin Sabatham and Ponniyin Selvan serialised novel. While his artworks are instantly recognised among tamil art lovers, his illustrated life should be known to the current and the next generations across the world.
This video intends to share his life as narrated by his son Maniam Selven. In this video, Maniam's paintings and illustrations are shown through the developmental stages of his career starting from the 1940s to 1960s.
In his short meritorious life, his keen interests in Art Direction for movies was realised, when he worked as an Art Director in Tamil movie 'Partiban Kanavu', 1960.

I am so happy to see a Virtual tour of Artist Maniam avargalin dream, "Ponniyin Selvan Hall". Brilliant narrative to string along these beautiful drawings. I have heard bits and pieces of these narratives from my mother, who reads up any article on Artist Maniam or Kalki. I saw these Ponniyin Selvan drawings every week, when it was republished in Kalki, in mid 80s ( Amma wanted to bind only the version with artist Maniam's illustrations) I was in standard sixth and used these as reference drawings. Thanks so much for this.

Super! It is too short - I know more are on the way. His imagination of what Hampi would have looked like is superb - please do a full episode showing what can be seen today and how he recreated the past before Hampi fell. There was a special retrospective in Sakthi magazine years ago. Are these original paintings preserved as is or reproductions touched up digitally- amazed by the sharpness and colors in the paintings. Congratulations to Mr. Maniam Selvan on his recent Kalaimagal award!
