Something worth mentioning with manga art is that, with most manga, it’s a collaborative affair, with assistants doing parts of the panels, such as backgrounds, while the main artist just does the main characters. I don’t know how the Vagabond artist does it, but it’s possible that the backgrounds you praise so rightfully here weren’t even done by him. This collaborative style makes sense, though, when you consider that many manga series are released with weekly chapters of up to twenty pages, so they have to produce amazing art amazingly fast. Again, though, I don’t know much about Vagabond specifically, but it’s worth considering the process of manga art when doing these videos so you can give credit where credit is due. Love your videos!

Love McFarlanes Spider-Man. I had to roll my eyes a bit when you then put up pics of Bagley and Ramos versions cos those are two I'm really not fond of. Bagley was alright but I find his depiction often feels kind of weak and feeble and his character faces and expressions often don't convince and look too similar. Ramos' style I just could never get into. His facial work and anatomy is like Joe Mads gone too far. Mad is grear but he knows when to stop and keeps from going too cartoony. Ramos' work often looks ugly to me. I'd say it's mellowed a bit in recent comics I've seen of his though. But yeah McFarlanes has some wonky art and faces too but I live his Spider-Man pose and web panels so much. As you said he pretty much redefined several aspects of how to draw the character and very influential to everyone who followed. By the way that Spawn film is pretty bad. The old animated series was great though. Spawn was voiced by awesome actor Keith David and it had an adult tone. Not a Saturday morning cartoon at all. 🙂

Based on your reaction to Takehiko Inoue, I'd love to see you talk about Bernie Wrightson. Even though it's not from one of his comic book works, his Frankenstein illustrations scratch a very similar itch as far as highly detailed black and white ink drawings.

The same-face thing is something I've never understood because to me half the fun of drawing characters I love is being allowed to make my own detailed aesthetic headcanons about that character's face and body shape, as well as other little visual quirks. Like deciding that a character has a really straight jaw or a strong brow or pronounced cheekbones. Getting to choose their eye shape and the exact slope of their nose. Considering the size of their lips, and whether the corners of their mouth naturally quirk upwards or downwards. Choosing whether their body type is naturally more top or bottom-heavy, and just how toned they are (or aren't) and in what places their muscles show the most, as well as where they're naturally softer. Like there are so many things you can do other than just drawing girls with hourglass shapes and super skinny arms! And it's also just way more engaging if you choose to give them different faces and body-types!

The the J. Scott Campbell cover, you missed that the red cape is making a big "S" with Spawn at the center. Clever!

For me, Vagabond is the best work for showing you one single image, and making you feel a very specific way with it.

Appreciate that you have comic artists from around the world. And the fact you are willing to say negative things about Mr Campbell even though you are a big fan.. 😊

Yes! Vagabond, it's rare but it's always nice to see vagabond get some attention. I feel like most stories made around the same era of berserk just get eclipsed by berserk itself. Great to see someone experience vagabond's art

5:25 Nice! Darksiders 2 is a great game, not only in how fun it is, but in how pretty it is. It's my understanding that a lot of the art team for that game were former comic artists, and it shows. Stjepan is an icon at this point. There are plenty of artists out there who will draw in a pseudo-realism style, but Sejic sits on that line in a way that nobody else does. His art feels real, but is also so expressive to the point that it surpasses reality. Personally, I'm grateful to for his work on Aquaman. His art truely elevated that particular arc to - as far as I'm concerned - classic status. 15:28 Ayy, The Wake! Great series. I truly believe Scott Snyder is the best write in the industry today. He's done a couple great projects with Sean Murphy, and they really work well together.

Stjepan is one of my all time favorite artists! I also very much enjoy his unfinished works. It's just got this 'umph!' to it that I cant get enough of

YES! Personally I love the design of Todd’s Spider-Man but also something that never fails to make me scream is seeing a really good drawing of spawn and his cape.

You got to check Tony Moore on the first 6 issues of The Walking Dead. The way he inks clearly differentiates day from night, sunny or clouded sky, characters' beards are growing every issue, showing how much time is passing between the issues, it's stylized and expressive. And I didn't even mention his zombie and corpses drawings

I heard Jim Lee say in one of his videos that it was a "little known fact" that Todd was actually born in the US, but moved to Canada early on... Love your channel...even though im in my 30s i like that its kid friendly and you have child fans and you encourage them... i like these critique videos... i love Sketchbook tips... i would love anatomy lessons and advice on selecting an "art tablet"

I really appreciate your editing in these vids. Like whenever you want to point out a certain section, like spawn’s cap for example, you section it out with yellow so the viewers can see what you’re talking about. And when you showed all the faces of the characters of that one artist in black and white to show how similar they look. Idk just wanted to say I appreciate the hard work that goes into this. 😊👍
