Love McFarlanes Spider-Man. I had to roll my eyes a bit when you then put up pics of Bagley and Ramos versions cos those are two I'm really not fond of. Bagley was alright but I find his depiction often feels kind of weak and feeble and his character faces and expressions often don't convince and look too similar. Ramos' style I just could never get into. His facial work and anatomy is like Joe Mads gone too far. Mad is grear but he knows when to stop and keeps from going too cartoony. Ramos' work often looks ugly to me. I'd say it's mellowed a bit in recent comics I've seen of his though. But yeah McFarlanes has some wonky art and faces too but I live his Spider-Man pose and web panels so much. As you said he pretty much redefined several aspects of how to draw the character and very influential to everyone who followed. By the way that Spawn film is pretty bad. The old animated series was great though. Spawn was voiced by awesome actor Keith David and it had an adult tone. Not a Saturday morning cartoon at all. 🙂

It’s amazing how it the illustration guides your eyes through the image

Thank you Christian for a great video to perk up an otherwise awful day!

Based on your reaction to Takehiko Inoue, I'd love to see you talk about Bernie Wrightson. Even though it's not from one of his comic book works, his Frankenstein illustrations scratch a very similar itch as far as highly detailed black and white ink drawings.

JSC phones it in a lot for the cheesecake covers, but when he wants to, the dude can draw some really cool stuff.

I put alot of work into my backgrounds, probably because of all the horror gmes i played as a kid, atmosphere is everything to me in images. But Takehiko Inoue just blew me away. my jaw hit the floor.

Great as always! I have a suggestion, probably not for this series, but I'd love some reactions to animation art. In particular, the art in Makoto Shinkai's films have always blown my mind. "Your Name" in particular has some just amazingly detailed and gorgeous art in it.

I know it's outside your wheelhouse for this series, but one of my favorite things about Stejpan's work is that he continues his art into his wordbubbles. Sometimes they're more expressive than his excellent facial expressions
