Illustrator Trick : Art Brush Lettering

Hello guys, In this video I"ll show you another trick in Adobe Illustrator to create cool lettering effect using Art brush.
The idea is change the path with single stroke to custom art brush that created before.

Hi, nice tut. But let me add a quick tip: when you are creating any kind of brush, on the "Brush dialog box" you can able the option: Colorization > Method > Hue Shift. If you do this, the brush can be colorized easily, just changing the stroke color. No expand brush needed ;)

Thank you Baimu, you're right. By using colorization we can simply change the brush color by change stroke color, but just remember this not work with gradient color.

You can use the shortcut "C" to cut your strokes. And pathfinder-trim with alt-click to cut out shapes using a rectangular.

@@fjworkshop use specific steps and add 1, it is an average line in center so it wont work with some letters

@@fjworkshop I found a way around because the blend line in between S was not very smooth. So I copied one line of S (right of left, anyone can work) and pasted it. Deleted the two lines of original S. Now made a copy of that new line and reversed flipped it (you can see that one line has Bigger head and smaller bottom, or vice versa if you selected the other line). Now I adjusted them to make an S outline as original one. Then, you can apply blend option and it will make a blend. It will be very smooth middle line. Another way is to trace the outline of S and then apply blend n that new S. When we convert letter into outline etc., they behave very differently.

You can use the scissors tool to break a path. Accomplishes the same thing, but it's a little faster.

Thanks for the tutorial! For around 1:10 where you were cutting the lines, you could also use the scissor tool ("c" key) to just do each cut in two clicks, although either way is cool! In fact they probably are just as fast I realized

I use the eraser tool for taking out bits of a path, goes much quicker.

Thanks for the video! I noticed that when I followed the steps that this effect doesn't work to well with some letters. I don't know if it has to do with the font im using, Arial Bold, but it's still a neat effect that I'll definitely use for future projects!

Drag the object into Brush Panel Make Middle Line = Add two anchor point then delete to cut the stroke line- Ungroup- Release Compound Path - Blend Tool - Ungroup- Select and Delete Side lines Object - Path -Reverse Path Direction - Compound Path

Nicely done! But I would be curious to see it on an a or an e or some other letters where that might be a bit more complicated.

this technique does not work well on some sans serif letters like the letter M. but good enough if the technique is applied to script letters, but you have to create lines manually using Pentool.
