The big question I have here is... why is the logo facing the wrong way? By flipping it, not only would you have the ‘dragon element’ but the curvature then matches that of a ‘D’. It also makes much more sense to do this - that way it’s looking at the writing with pride, not looking away with shame. And if you still don’t agree with this point, check other logos that have a directional sense to them - for example the Twitter bird. They all tend to face left to right because that’s in tune with the way we read and translates to a sense of moving forward. Any thoughts or comments on this?

I disagree. Contrary to what you said, many iconic animal logos face left rather than right to counter the direction of the type. Puma, Jaguar, Playboy, Peugeot, Polo, Crocks, Camel, Ferrari, Polo, JAL, American Eagle are just a few examples. The direction of the animal isn't necessarily important compared to the imagery itself. In this case, the logo works as is in my opinion. Please do some basic research before saying something's in the 'wrong' direction.

I've been a self taught part time graphic designer for about 4 years and this one video completely changed my workflow for logo design. I used to rely on the pen tool to much, the shapebuilder is so much cleaner! Having the grid already set up like this makes showing your work when presenting to a client so much simpler. Basically thank you this was super informative and I learned a lot. You presented it in a very easy to understand way. I appreciated the bird and nature sound fx too.

I recomend you to navigate to the channel -> The futur! They are a community of graphic designers, and the dude that runs those headquarters is unbelievably smart! Just hear his imput on "how much you charge for a logo?" And what factor depends on what you charge for it! Do you charge your logo for time or value??? It depends on who do you sell it! If it's a small store it won't worth the same as if you sell it to a big corporation like Nike for instance even if the logo is tat simple to draw! I love it because this channel talks a lot about marketing of graphic design business and how to run it!

Would have done this with stroke-widths and konvert to fills and use the negative space as a stroke too. (Object/Path/Move Path - hope it's correct in the u.s. version) The majority of the roundings I would have done with the edges-tool and typing in the correct value for the rounding. There are always many ways in Illustrator. One tipp: Align the guides to the ancor points: Drag the guides directly to the ancor points and they will snap. (According to your settings of course). And use x, shift x, , (komma) and # as shortcuts for the fills. I (type i) is the eyedropper-tool. Anyway a great tutorial for combining creative techniques. All thumbs up!! For all the guys out there learning how to design: Of course it's not that easy as it seems. There were tons of decisions in it and you probably didn't notice. Experience is the key and you will get faster with it as you train your mind to foresee the outcoming of your decisions. Andy, ACI (Adobe Certified Instructor)

Thank you for your great instructions yes that will be a better way to do it but I wanted to show how to grid a sketch and how to use the shape builder to form the shapes, I don't use shortcuts so often but I am including them more in my workflow.

Yeah, of course it's your video and I didn't want to lecture and I get your point. Anyway, I do some videos for my trainings too. They are not as professional like yours, they have another intension. I use Camtasia as a screen-recording-tool and it records some of the keystrokes too. I have the prob that it doesn't record single keystrokes like "i". It records Strg + G for example. What do you use as a screen-recording-tool? And what kind of audio-tools are you using? I still use Audition for optimizing the level.

This video was really helpful. I am new to graphic designing the professional way, and I am trying to learn as I go. How did you get the sketch from paper to adobe ? Thanks

There are many ways to get the picture into Adobe illustrator. One simple technique is to install WhatsApp for desktop on your computer and send a pic to yourself from your phone using WhatsApp. Then download the picture from the desktop WhatsApp. Then import it into Illustrator. All the best.

I really appreciate you sharing so much in your videos, thank you, and your teaching is so helpful. I also noticed that this video has 4.5 million views, and you’re still getting comments and still responding even though you haven’t published a new video for ages. Brilliant! You’re making money while you sleep from this video that you made 3 years ago. Very smart business person! Kudos to you!

Amazing work!!! I would like to know how do you do to exercise your criativity? Also, how do you delivery your final project to the client? Like, a guide to the applications of the logo, a guide for the client print it, etc. Again, congratulations, your work is amazing and it inspires me a lot, thanks!!!
