We'll be lucky if a team would take a 6th round pick of ours to get rid of him. No one is giving us any picks for Mikheyev. In fact, we'll likely have to give away a 2nd rounder just to get rid of him.

Patrik is taking accountability for the Mikheyev signing. Seems it was his idea, not Jim’s, but Jim trusted him. 100% he’s planning on acquiring some top 6 forwards.

The Islanders have some speed in Matt Barzal and Pierre Engavall. The last thing they need is another guy that can't score with a big contract.

As a pens fan, i would take him over 4 assists and no goals in 53 games Jansen Harkins or 'cant stay healthy' Matt Nieto. How about a conditional 2026th 7th round pick if the pens get him at 50% salary retention?

Unless the Penguins go into a full rebuild, which I don't see as long as Crosby is still there, I don't see them taking on an overpaid player like that. And if they do, they'll want picks or prospects for their trouble. Some fans seem to think it's as easy as NHL 24. You set it to beginner mode and teams just give you good players for your underperforming players. Nobody is going to do the Canucks any favours. Nobody is just going to hand the Canucks cap space. This isn't the pre-cap era, where if the franchise was losing money and the GM wanted to get costs under control and rebuild, he'd just start dumping players off and he'd probably get a decent return if he was any good at negotiating. Cap space is like gold and you're paying a premium to get it. A $4.75 million cap hit is a sizeable amount, even if the cap goes up. You expect a good player for that. Yes, Ilya is solid defensively and can still skate, but he's a winger, which lowers his value, and he has zero finish around the net. If I'm paying 4.75 against the cap for a pure defensive player, it had better be a Guy Charbonneau type, an elite defensive centre, or like what Danault was in Montreal. The problem is that with the cap, they have to play Mikheyev in the top 6, which lowers Pettersson's effectiveness and creates a massive black hole in the top 6. The Canucks reminded me this season of the Oilers a few years ago minus the goaltending. 3 excellent centres, a really good defenseman (in the Canucks case a great one) and maybe one bonafide top 6 winger. You can't have that. When you have Suter and Mikheyev as top 6 wingers, that's a problem. But again, good luck finding a team that will take on his salary. And I don't like retention because the Canucks already have significant dead cap coming up in the next few years.

Well even Cup winners make trades, so the Canucks would consider trades whenever their season ends, no matter it's after 2, 3, or 4 rounds of playoffs.

It's the Tocchet system that destroys confidence. Any shot on goal must be perfect so players tend to pass endlessly rather than throw it at the net. Look for more players to be impacted by this very defensively minded coach.

@johnl6277 28 күн бұрын
It's not Tocchet's fault that some players can't score even with a mostly opened net or in breakaways. Of course he'd want players to take accurate shots rather than having them blocked and resulting in rushes the other way.
@carlosvangrinder3754
@carlosvangrinder3754 28 күн бұрын
Incorrect, he just wanted some net front presence so the shot had a chance. The players got that part but failed to get to the net most of the time as Tocch says they were disconnected from each other. Execution would be more accurate statement as to why they got very little shots, there defensive game was good but they didn't have much of a forecheck due to being disconnected on the offensive side of the puck. One must stay connected like the Blueger, Joshua, and Garland line did for most of the first half of the year.

Why does every team overpay for former Leafs trash players? Justin Hill $5M?, Mikheyev $4.25 M, Bunting $5 M...like why? Do teams sign these guys to spite the Leafs and deal with the regrets later because it seems to be a treand.
