Im A Little Worried About Super Mario Party Jamboree

Your worries are totally fair, but given how the boards look, I’m feeling pretty confident they’ll be fine. Not sure on the economy, though, but it looks like we have Unlucky Spaces PLUS the Bowser Spaces are still here. As for Koopathlon, it’s actually basically a revamped Coinathlon from Mario Party Star Rush. And the way it worked in that game is you do a race of 3-7 laps, depending on (if you do the single player thing they had for it) what round you’re on for up to 10 rounds. And in it, you play a bunch of coin mini-games, where every coin you collect moves you forward 1 space. Collecting enough coins grants you items that you can use to mess with opponents or give you extra coins. And if Bowser shows up, you have to play a survival mini game where losing sends you back relative to how you placed, and if you survive the whole game, you stay put. I’m really excited for Koopathlon and the game as a whole. I do think you have some fair concerns, but I’m being more on the optimism side of cautious optimism. We’ll just have to wait and see, though. Heck, something I just thought of- maybe they nerfed the Lucky Spaces to be less generous? Worth a thought, at least.

While the game has the Super name, its very much a sequel to Superstars in terms of gameplay. Also, regarding coins, coins have always been kinda easy to get, even in older games. The problem with SMP was the star cost (and lots of other things). The 40 move dice wouldn't break the board exactly, since its still up to chance. Its basically just 4 regular dices, you still need to get 10s on all 4. And its obviously made with that specific board in mind (and we don't know exactly how everything works on that board yet)

Coins were easy to get sure but they were also easy to lose in the older games. Battle min games would take more the longer the game went on/whatever the average was amongst the players, the items cost more and there were no lucky spaces. I wouldnt have nearly as much of a problem with how they handle the coins in the latest games if they at least gave you something bigger to spend them on

I think this is gonna be one of the best Mario party games, it already looks better than superstars to me. But yeah I do agree with what you said still i really hope the economy is balanced and there’s lots of skill on the boards too and some minor stuff as well

The main issue with super mario party was that boards sucked. The minigames themselves were actually pretty good. But the boards were too small, the items sucked, the movement and pacing on them was painfully slow, getting coins was too easy and everything was too cheap so everyone always had coins for everything even if they lost all minigames. Not to mention only 4 boards is unacceptable. Superstars brought back classic boards that are bigger, have more fun items, the pacing is much better,stars price is back to 20 and the overall board play is a lot better where its back to its roots. Jamboree seems like the boards will be more like in superstars so Im honestly not too woried despite the "super" branding.

It definitely seems like itll be better than Super but I couldnt help but feel a little scared the moment I saw the Super branding on it. Agree with pretty much everything you said, though I still think the items in superstars were a little stale too but not a big deal

@@Sarrowlol I think the overall board play will be just like in superstars so it will be fine in this regard but still a little concerend about coin economy. While stars cost and stuff in superstars was back to 20 it was stil leasier to get coins compare to older games. A lot of lucky places which werent in older games that could give you a lot of coins and bowser wasnt as punishing as in the older games. I remember that losing bowser minigames made you lose half of your coins while in superstars its only 10 coins. And passing bowser in yoshis tropical island or peachs birthday cake made you lose a lot more coins in original than in superstars. Rainbow castle is returning in Jamboree and getting to Bowser instead of star made you lose 40 coins. I think it will be nerfed in Jamboree but I hope its at least 20 coins.

The golden goomba gimmick seems interesting. It looks like it's bad, but they could balance it so it's kinda like a Mario party 8 very lucky space. You pass a golden goomba that just landed on a space, you would just get 3 coins and maybe some could be fake as a way to take away coins.

I wish they would have picked different returning boards. Like that one inside a train. Hopping on clouds ain't exactly new and I personally find the western theme a bit outdated. As for characters, I don't understand why Ninji was picked. 😅 The Koopalings, or at least a few of them, would have felt more appropriate to me.

I agree that there’s been way too many lucky spaces. I just want more customization options. Let me customize the settings, and toggle on and off specific minigames and items please. In a perfect world I’d want there to be a board maker option with boards that can be shared online

I'm usually not one to really care about what's coming out nowadays, though sometimes the topic interests me. They are pretty valid concerns I'd say, given we didn't really get anything in-depth in the direct. I'm always looking to be surprised about hearing overwhelmingly positive things from games when they come out, it would be a nice change of pace to hear that from a Mario party game after so long. Here's to hoping Mario Party Jamboree is not Jamboring!

I feel like a big concern of mine is the speed of this game as it seems like there’s a lot of movement items which is good but seems like you can get a lot of them and idk how I feel about that

Thats my main concern for the race track board, it seems cool that you can get a big item that lets you move so much but that could also be a down side too. Not sure how the others will be

personally I'm not too worried about the economy in this game i think superstars had a pretty good balance but the lucky spaces were a bit much at time swhich that problem seems to be addressed since unlucky spaces aren't replacing bowser spaces again but are still their own separate space, as for the golden goomba rain i could see that being kind of like how it is in the last 5 turns for 8 where every blue space and red space would have a coin/coin bag added on top of them where goombas are on the spaces and your character jumps on them as they pass the spaces, (would be a pretty funny situation for goomba since he's playable again) also the koopathalon isn't new, it was in mario party star rush and was called the coinathalon in that game, still a great mode and I'm glad it's returning since that was the best part about star rush but I feel that misconception is going to be pretty common for this, on top of that I'm not really worried about the online side of things since mario party has a pretty good track record all things considered when it comes to online play and with the koopathalon i see it just having most of the game being client side since all they really have to do is track how many coins each player gets and what items are used

We really dont know what the golden goombas are going to do in the game so I didnt wanna be too pessimistic about it but so long as it doesnt make everyone rich in a turn or two im sure it wont be too bad. I just miss when the games were a bit more chaotic with being able to lose things just as easily as you could gain

i absolutely love motion controls, and i'd argue most people who grew up with the wii (a lot of people) appreciate them too. i'm super glad they are adding them back, and glad they're optional for those who don't like them

One thing I’d like is something to keep people from amassing large amounts of coins. Think cashzap candy from MP8 or the hammer bro and piranha plant orbs from 6 and 7. I think that would really help.

About the motion controls..... I'm 99% certain that those mini games aren't playable online because of the Switch Lite. Wouldn't be fair for those playing with the lite and would be pretty stupid for Nintendo to exclude a good chunk of sales from Lite users for the sake of a few minigames. I'm fine with that decision.

I don't mind the amount of lucky spaces per say, but i think 10 coins is the absolute MAX you should be able to get from them. Ideally, items would be more expensive too. An idea ive had for a while is that if you tie in minigames, you split the pot instead of either both players getting the full 10 coins, or no one gettiing it. This would discourage stalemates Also, i cant stress how much i hope the Koopathalon mode isn't online exclusive...

The splitting the pot idea isnt bad I think I would actually prefer that over both getting the coins. I also think if they wanna keep the items at the cost they are now thats fine but still give us some other more crazy items that are more expensive as well. And Im pretty the new mode would have to be online or else theres no way people would be able to get 19 other players to play with them locally lol

Basically when 2 or more players win in certain mini-games, they can do a high five to receive bonus coins. To do that, the announcer has to say “Ready…” “Yeah!” And then perform that at the right time.

I don’t get why nintendo has struggles with some of their games but excel in others. Like, their mainline mario platformers are almost always crazy fun and awesome. But Mario party struggles so much, with them unable to catch the charm of the originals. Then there’s mario kart, which succeeds a lot and is constantly providing fun. Then there’s Pokemon, which has been really pathetic and boring. I just don’t get it, its like nintendo is trying to make some things bad and others good. All in all i have hope for this game

The big mario party titles are usually developed in house at their HQ, but stuff like pokemon and mario party are made by other developers

In fairness, Every "New" Super Mario bros. game is awful & so is Lost Levels. Nintendo has lots of bad games. Like most of the Mario & Luigi games after the first one & all of the Paper Mario games after the 2nd one. And more than half of the Mario Kart games, especially if you count the arcade ones.
