Learn to Paint in 5 minutes | Digital Painting Photoshop Tutorial Beginner

Learn the basics of Digital painting in under 5 minutes! This is a beginner tutorial video in which I will show you how to paint in Photoshop using the basic tools and techniques. You'll learn the brush tool, the eraser tool, custom brushes, hue, saturation and Brightness slider, colour swatches, eye dropper tool and blending. I use Wacom Intuos Pro Medium for almost all my paintings. I also use a Wacom Cintiq 13 hd for some of my drawings.
This is a video related to my general basic workflow and process when I'm painting in Photoshop. Please bear in mind that this is not an in-depth tutorial, this is a beginner level tutorial. I'll create more video tutorials covering more concepts including perspective, values, colour, light, and more advanced techniques including gradient maps, blending modes, photo-texturing, photo-bashing and many more. I believe this is a good example for beginners who want to see and get an idea about how digital paintings are created in Photoshop. Digital painting can definitely be confusing but the more time you invest in it, the easier it becomes. I had a blast working on this illustration and I hope you like the video!

When I was a beginner, I used my touchpad. It felt like I`m painting with my finger, which is a million times better than a mouse. For using the pen tool and to navigate over the canvas, I still prefer touchpad, over the tablet.

So I know that I’m waaay late with this comment, but I just wanted to say Please don’t feel discouraged! Painting is hard, and learning new mediums is hard. We can’t compare ourselves to the people in all the KZbin tutorials who’ve spent years and years perfecting their art. It’s just not realistic. Instead, practice practice and practice some more, and after a couple of months, compare yourself to YOU. Look at the things you created when you first started, see if you improved. And be okay with the fact that for most of us, we’re only happy with the outcome of like 10% of the things we paint. To improve in something requires a lot of failure, and that’s okay.

Hey. Awesome video man. Couldn't imagine a 5 mins video getting me into this when videos worth hours couldn't do it. Instant subbed! Well, I tried to paint what you painted, but mine ended horribly. I don't know how can I achieve that. Also, the brush set is awesome ut I just couldn't properly figure out which brush were you using at what point in your painting. I used only one brush (the number 80 you selected in the beginning) to paint the whole painting, maybe that's why mine ended weird and bad. :( I don't really know, I know it requires so much practice to achieve what you achieved and it was only my first attempt but I thought maybe if I knew the right brushes I could improve better?
