I had a friend who I met in hospital back in 2012, both of us having cancer. After 4 years of battling cancer we both got better and continued our lives happy. In 2017 he messaged me telling me his cancer has returned and it spread everywhere in his body. He didn't want to stay in hospital and have chemotherapy again. He told me he will live the rest of his days doing what he loves. And so he did. I always thought that he gave up the fight, and chose the easy way out. He passed away in 2021. But after 3 years, thinking about him, made me realise he was brave for choosing to live his life happily, doing what he loves, dying at home surrounded by people he loved. This song reminded me of him for some reason. RIP my friend. 😢❤

I have always interpreted this song as the Abyss of Depression. Every second, every chord, every note, is one more step towards suicide, represented by a bridge of tranquility, while meditating and executing the difficult decision. From my point of view, the final joy provided by "Rocks" announces the passage towards death, but not as something "bad" or dark, but as a way out of all earthly problems. I feel that Imagine Dragons always goes against depression, even though songs like "dream" "release" are so sad, always at the end of the bridge there is a desire to contradict the initial thought of the song. This is totally depressive if , but Rocks is the call of someone close to you who tells you "I knocked on your window but you didn't listen to me, we are falling (together, not you alone), let the world feel us, and finally asks: why can't we see what is in front of us?

This choreography with the lyrics tells me a heart-break and its process. Especially when both people still seem to love each other, but they do not know how to love properly, either side or one of the two does not have the maturity to admit mistakes or to respect boundaries, and they cannot express expectations and align it, or one of the sides cannot handle daily frustrations without projecting harsh words to the other side, and both end up broken by disrespect, guilt, blame, and accusations, and the dialog wasted and drained them, the conversations were not with a proper method, a proper communication, the proper kindness. And it appears the days you feel connected, and you want to hug, the days you are aloof, and then you feel like having their attention, they feel like having your attention when the eyes are grayed out. Eventually, the end comes of so much lack of skills. It breaks my heart every time I watch it. I feel my heart beat stronger, my breath goes faster, and it triggers my past pain. After many, many times watching the mv, I like the way the scene transitions between the underwater and the terrestrial frames. That creates a new idea that creates a very special contrast in the speed and slowness of the mv. There is a lot of contrast in this mv, not only in terms of form but also in content. It's like there's an explosion, everything is beautiful and slowed down for the viewer to enjoy. Underwater scenes thanks to the reflection of water, contours are still clearly visible and detailed. Watching Imagine Dragon's mv, I have never been disappointed in the way the content and art they show. There is always a message and a new beauty, I can say I am a big fan of this band. My writings and thinking have flourished in large part because of them. Thank Imagine Dragon.
