In this clip, Iman Shumpert explained why he doesn’t think it’s likely that a woman can compete in the NBA due to the physicality of the game compared to that of the women’s game. Iman was clear in saying that women can definitely compete in terms of skill but the physical nature of the game nullifies that.

When i played freshman basketball we use to scrimmage the varsity girls basketball team(they made state and lost in final four). My freshman year we were 2 or 3 games under 500. We beat the poo out of them every time. It wasn't even close. It wasn't a challenge. And 2 girls off of that team played college ball. One made major D1 and wnba. Our 8th grade team could have beaten them. Now a 6th or 7th grade team would have been a more fair game. And no one on my freshman roster made college for basketball

Those people end up being trainers, and coaches. Women lack endurance, bone density, strength, testosterone, muscle fibers volume and density, fast twitch muscles volume and density, cardio - women have smaller hearts, frame - women have angled quadriceps structure, which limits force production, narrower shoulders, they have slower reaction time. No, some of them can with different training. The training aspect for female basketball youth development hasn’t been what it has been for the guys that’s why you don’t see dunking or anything, but it’s been changing over the last decade. Kobe being a big figure in that change. Now these girls are actually building explosive ability and some are dunking in middle school and high school, as well as building the technical skills better. So yes for the top WNBA some of them could be on an NBA bench but there’s a reason why he gave a four-year timeline as they would have to completely change their training regiment.

@@IncognitoSprax Some women are dunking in middle school and high school? Lmfao WHAT? Not on 10 foot nets they're not. There are hardly any wnba players currently who can dunk, that is massive bs right there. Some top WNBA players could be on an NBA bench? No, they couldn't. Im not trying to sound like a dick but you clearly have no idea the gaping chasm between men and women in athletics. The US women's soccer team has lost to high school boys. The Canadian women's hockey team loses to high school boys. Serena Williams would lose to college men's tennis players. There are high school track athletes that post better times than women's Olympic gold medallists.... But somehow you think in basketball it's different? Not a chance dude, not even remotely close.

Alot of shit comes into it though, a majority of females that hoop don't have that lateral movement goin right to left or left to right, and I don't think they can take the physical pressure let alone the actual physicality not as grown individuals, I think the females can hit open shots, but run with NBA players who are lifting 400+ pounds in the regular including a man's natural strength and competitive nature going against a female who in a one on one matchup a man is not going to let a female beat them, a woman can be skilled but they are going to have to be in the weight way before they touch a basketball just to match the physical strength it's going to break a female down to have a 200-300 pound man defending them for 48 mins

The best take I've heard yet on the female basketball conversation. I've seen some of the young girls that are dunking he talked about. I think he's absolutely right that if young girls were playing with and against boys their game would evolve and we'd see who could make it and who couldn't. Even the few who did make it probably wouldn't be superstars or get heavy minutes but it'd be cool to see the upper limits of female basketball potential.
