Part 16: • Michael Jai White Does...
Part 1: • Michael Jai White on T...
--------
Celebrated martial artist and actor Michael Jai White shared his insights on the top martial artists in Hollywood. White praised several renowned figures but singled out Jet Li as the most knowledgeable in martial arts, crediting Li's extensive training since childhood and his tenure in the esteemed Beijing Wushu Team. White also lauded other martial arts icons, such as Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and Tony Jaa, each for their unique contributions to martial arts cinema. Additionally, he highlighted Donnie Yen's exceptional choreography and fighting skills, as well as Wesley Snipes, Jason Statham, and Jean-Claude Van Damme for their prowess. However, White specifically noted Jerry Trimble for his real-life fighting skills, calling him "the most exciting fighter ever in the ring." Expanding the conversation, he mentioned other accomplished fighters and actors like Randy Couture, Chuck Norris, and Steven Seagal, appreciating their martial arts and cinematic achievements.

You must believe in Santa if you think you can have a record like that in such short time unless you count amateur not full contact competitions when you take on 4 or 5 'fights' a day. Weirdly, the most tested guy who made some living of TV and straight to video movies is Don Wilson who was beating the shit out of people at kickboxing and is a real legend of the sport. He is probably the most legitimate fighter. Yen and Lee are great but they mastered a choreography not actual combat. Jai White also inflates his ability. Combat wise he is on par with Van Damme and Lundgren, below Norris and all those stories about his sparring with UFC fighters is just him being more athletic when he meets UFC fighters than what Seagal does. Not taking away anything from any of those guys and Jai White is amazing but we are talking about bodybuilders and models or Asians who dance in movies. Don Wilson and maybe Benny Urquidez are actually brutal fighters.

To be fair Jet Lee also just flaps arms and has no combat skills. Most of them are the same. There a few only that are combat proven and near none of them achieved great things in combat. Jai White won US Open numerous times and its enough to have a black belt to qualify and the full contact looks like a pointy karate when you can't get hurt and can take on a few opponents a day(that is why karate fighters have so many fights in their record). Van Damme did same thing winning European title and same for Lundgren. Norris is higher with a world champion title. The one that was actually tested in professional combat, made living out of it and fought the best fighters in world is a former Kickboxing champion Don Wilson.

Billy Blanks was an animal man. People really forget because of Tae Bo. Just look at those scenes from The King of The Kickboxers. Cheesy at times from an acting perspective... but the fight at the end is wild. But Jet Li was also completely ridiculous outside of film. Bruce Lee is forever legendary. MJW know what he talking bout here.
@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs
@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs Сағат бұрын
People also forget that a middle aged, 60 something Bill "Superfoot" Wallace kicked Billy around fairly easily in an exhibition match. Wallace was sporting white "fur" on his chest and Billy was in his prime. And no, Billy didn't take it easy on the former PKA Middleweight full contact champ. That said, Billy Blanks was/is an outstanding Martial Artist.
@TheKontrarian
@TheKontrarian 20 минут бұрын
@@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs the video and the question is about martial artist WHO WERE IN SEVERAL FILMS. Not fighters they fought as competitors. So you bring in irrelevant points just because you want to. You bring this up when Chuck lost, MJW lost, Don The Dragon Wilson lost, Billy Blanks lost, Van Damme lost, Bill Wallace himself lost etc etc etc. but the only one of them who wasn’t a movie star is who???? Bill Wallace.

I have to respectfully disagree with MJW about Jet Li knowing the most styles in terms of actors. I love Jet, but Donnie Yen knows and has perfected far more disciplines than Jet. This is very well documented. Not sure why Mike put Jet over Donnie in this. it's not even close. Besides, all the styles Jet knows in terms of Wushu and other forms of Kungfu, Donnie knows those too, plus others, such as BJJ, Taekwondo, etc, that Jet never studied.

I feel like Jean Claude Van Damme doesn't get enough respect. For being a real fighter and a real martial artist. He was a real legit Shotokan Karate Black Belt. Even has a legitimate kickboxing record. Some might say well that's Wikipedia doesn't mean anything. When Van Damme would have been competing it would have been sometime in the 70's. The terminologies for Combat Sports have changed as far as the wording. It may very well have been a Full - Contact or Semi- Contact Karate matches/fights. They wasn't no K-1, Glory Kickboxing, and now we have Karate Combat. Doesn't matter it's all relevant in my humble opinion. I'm also so glad Michael Jai White. Has corrected himself. On his feelings on if Van Damme is a " real fighter/martial artist." A few years ago on The Voice Versus aka Michael Schiavello's sit down one on one interview series. Jai White said he doesn't consider him neither. The number one thing I can tell Van Damme is legit. Is his effortless freedom of movement. When you train as a fighter martial artist. You drill single techniques and combinations. Like Bruce Lee said "Don't fear the man that knows 1,000 kicks. Fear the man that trained one kick 1,000 times." You basically enter flow state or ultra instinct. Go look at any Great Athlete. Whether that is Michael Jordan or Bo Jackson. Larry Bird or Muhammad Ali. Mike Tyson or Conor McGregor you get it? All of these individuals have one thing in common in their respective sport genre. Also another sign of this. Is when you watch Van Damme. There are no tells or telegraphs in his repetitive movements.

No, but the sidekick he gave Bob Wall in Enter the Dragon was real and broke his sternum. It was a receipt after Bob Wall cut Bruce’s arm with a glass bottle.

I disagree with Mike on this one, SONNY CHIBA was a 4th dan in multiple martial arts. He probably knew more than Jet li. Can't believe he's not even mentioned!

Sorry Michael, you are WRONG (again) Jet Li was only "Wushu". It's the only Martial Arts he Specializes in. And it more artistic, than practical. It's up there with Steven Seagal "Aikido". Both are beautiful to watch, but not for the streets. Chuck Norris (Seriously) is the Most decorated and Skilled Actor in Martial Arts. Not only did Chuck Norris work along side Bruce Lee, but Chuck Norris is actually the person that initially promoted BJJ in the US. the Gracie's to Bring BJJ to the United States. Chuck trained in Bjj in Brazil in the early 1980's. He allowed them to use one of his commercial retail spots he owned in LA, and had them start doing classes. Chuck Norris also Competed, and was 1967 Triple Crown Karate Champ, Pro Middleweight Karate Champ from 1968-1074 (Held the title for 6 consecutive years). There is a reason why Bruce lee had Norris in his films. Chuck Norris is a black belt in; Chun Kuk do - 10th Degree Black Belt Tang Soo Do - 9th Degree Black Belt Taekwondo - 5th Degree Black Belt Karate- 5th Degree Black Belt BJJ - Black belt Judo - Black Belt ****Let the hate mail begin****

Jerry Trimble. I vividly remember picking up a copy of Inside Karate magazine from 1991 with him on the cover doing a flying kick with gold pants. I also remember my mum saying he looks like Kirk Douglas. Amazing how a single name can trigger a childhood memory from over 30 years ago. 🤣

Some actors also do martial arts. Like Jason Statham or Wesley Snipes. Some martial artists become actors, like Jet Li and Jacki Chan. And then there are real-deal, bona-fide fighters who get into movies and maybe become serious actors or maybe not but there toughness as fighter and their skills as martial artists have been proven without question, like Don Wilson and Benny the Jet.

He dances around that term "real fighters" when he wants to. Everyone, except Bruce Lee, I notice MJW is careful to give props to Wushu though it is more choreography than fighting. It does require skill. They are all skillful. Glad to see Benny the Jet getting kudos.

Jet Li was my hero growing up. He was pushed in Hollywood too and he would've been one of this biggest stars in the world (still is) but he semi-retired because of his religion and spent most of his time meditating - a lot of people don't know this.
