In the 16 th century, Japan began trading with Europe, during what would become known as the Nanban trade. Samurai acquired European types of armour, which they modified and combined with domestic armour, as it provided better protection. Some samurai armor were steel plates and were linked together with silk. They were also light-weight and provided a wide range of movement. The only issue that samurai armor had was gaps were the joints where. However, this issue could be countered by adding extra armor, which they sometimes did and was optional because of the fact that it further constricted movement. Overall samurai armor is of a very good quality and is extremely reliable. In fact, it was even sought after by European's in the 16th century and beyond because of their beauty. (Sorry in advance for any grammatical errors.)

First of all, it may seem strange to mention that most of the posts are a few years old, but why are there so many racially prejudiced and insulting comments in the comments section of this video? First of all, the white guy who took off his helmet is their (the Japanese players') mentor, and he is from the US and was the first person to spread hema in Japan. He won a hema competition in North America in 2012, and many of his students are highly skilled swordsmen, including one who took third place at the world championships in Spain (the woman who was helping him put his helmet back on). And as anyone who has studied medieval martial arts knows, knights and Westerners were not as tall as they are today, and the Japanese, whose average height is in the early 170cm range today, are no less fit than medieval knights, so there is nothing ridiculous about fighting with the same armor and weapons as the knights of that time. I am very angry at the racists who can't even pay respect to others in the 21st century. They probably don't even know how to use a longsword or the theory of how to fight. As long as there is no legal problem, I would like to kill every last one of them.

2 questions 1. I live in Canada and am interested in getting into this so is there a Canadian "chapter" near Lethbridge Alberta 2. How authentic is this it does seem fun and authentic in a gritty " battle" sense but are there technique rules in place so one can learn a certain form of technique to use
@ameritoast51749 жыл бұрын
***** From what I have read/seen there is a Canada team also a Quebec team for some reason. From what I can see its more about hitting hard and knocking people down anyway you can and less about technique. Which is fine because I love watching these videos but don't expect expert sword fighting techniques to be shown. Also I believe there are no thrusts because of the dangers from that. I should state that in the 10v10 matches its less about technique but if you watch the 1v1 you can watch some good sword fights with the knights showing their skill with the longswords.
@DylanRepileguyDeMarni9 жыл бұрын
I did see some technique but nothing real serious, I would like something like the hema tournaments but in full armour that would be pretty sweet
@charlesw59198 жыл бұрын
+Dylan DeMarni (Repileguy) You're in luck. There are 2 teams from Canada: The Canadian Team and the Quebec Team. In terms of techniques, you get to use more techniques in one-on-one matches. However, you still can't use thrusts for obvious reasons.
@NewYorkKnightsCombat18 жыл бұрын
+Dylan DeMarni (Repileguy) Look up Team Canada and Team Quebec or the International Medieval Combat Federation The rules of the melee are that you have to put down everyone on the other side. You can punch, kick, grapple, strike with weapons, pretty much everything except stab with the weapons or hit them in the foot, groin, or back of the knee. Beyond that, it's vale tudo: whatever works.
