Wow only 11 comments so far... I have seen Annihilation 7 times as of this posting (MoviePass yeah!) and I find it so relaxing to watch from beginning to end. My all-time favorite film. Every actor was at their best. Not a single second of the film seemed to be filler material. Its faster pace, along with the changes from VanderMeer's novel, were definitely for the better. I find this behind-the-scenes footage only makes the whole project more endearing. I hope Garland's next film tops even this, and I hope Annihilation gains a loyal following over the next decade to elevate its status, as most great sci-fi films take time to appreciate. Thanks for sharing this!

Will I am Musiq agreed, this is my favorite movie of all time now, which says A LOT because I’ve held onto some of my favorite movies for a while, and I’m quite picky as a filmmaker and movie-obsessor. This is incredibly inspirational to see how much everyone cared. I like just how so focused and attentive people were to Garlands direction, then it’s also wonderful to see how much fun everyone had as well, warms my heart.

Spoilers for the book, but Natalie Portman's character ends up being such a potent weapon against area x for two reasons: 1.She is an extremely extroverted and gifted biologist 2. she is the only expedition member with outside ties to the shimmer (via her husband). The fact that she has already made contact with a "clone" of the shimmer through her husband means Area X already has partial awareness of her, so the Director was hoping to use her (the biologist) as a means of first contact.
@hhanonymous6 жыл бұрын
4:59 I wonder what this scene was? Looks like she's breaking out of a correctional facility, but scientists or people in lab coats are ignoring her? Unless reshoots were made with her in the white scrubs for the final cut to make her look less like a prisoner at the hub outside Area-X.
@ImpoForrest6 жыл бұрын
_窮 I would imagine it was right before Natalie (forgot character name) sees the shimmer for the first time. If you notice in that scene in the film, the scientists look really alarmed while she’s staring at it.

A deleted scene, originally after Lena woke up at the facility she subdued a guard and tried to escape, the director thought it was a little awkward she would accept going into the area after this, so it was removed.

@BeachSkies6 жыл бұрын

@Fidel_L.Bousquet19706 жыл бұрын
Have you actually watched the movie? They have sent 11 teams before. Military men, with big guns. Groups with drones, animals, weapons... none of them returned. They are trying a more subtle approach, and they are not "emotional woman": they are SCIENTISTS. You don't cure cancer with a bazooka, and you don't understand an alien phenomenon by sending the marines.
@Somnivers6 жыл бұрын
A load of bullshit.Why not send a mixed team if that is the case ?Maybe it's because the author wanted to have women character to prove once again how strong women are and balance the women presence in movies kinda of shit.And then he had to add bits to the story to make it credible.It is not.The main character goes in for personal reasons and feels that she betrayed her man ,blah blah, emotional stuff.You don't send emotional people to deal with a national (don't even wanna go into world wide) threat. Everything else failed, but a bunch of women are the last hope of humanity.Perhaps in a laboratory, not on the field dealing with monsters and shit. By far , SJW feminist cringe, just like Star Trek Discovery.I liked the movie ,but on a serious note, that's what it is.
@amydaigle7466 жыл бұрын
J.F.L. Bousquet actually if you read the book, 11 missions is just what they told new recruits. They had a few over 30 if I remember correctly.
@systemvoid6 жыл бұрын
Also, in the book they are a squad of all women because that is the current expeditions chosen factors. There most likely have been mixed missions before, as well as all male expeditions, expeditions chosen on ethnicity or age based factors as well. The whole point is that they are trying out different variables of people against the shimmer.
