So few things: 1. Your ratio calculating is amazing! When I build my factory it's just like "hmmm, what if I place a bit more of those..." 2. I'm affraid that fluid system doesn't work as you think. Fluid is (more or less) evenly distributed amond recivers, so your solid fuel line is limiting other production. The best solution for processing oil is using circuit network. It might seem (or be) a bit complicated, but you can program for example a pump going to lube plant only if there's low level of lube in a tank. Same way you can leave a bit of heavy oil to make lube and crack the rest. It's possible to read and control chests, inserters, accumulators and many more. 3. It's the best to make solid fuel from light oil, everything else is less efficient 4. Green range of roboports is for construction, orange for logistic. Anyway, great job :D
@giin974 жыл бұрын
I set things up quite a bit more simply, has worked well for me. Heavy, light, and gas all come from refineries into their own tank. Circuit connects heavy tank to pump going to heavy crackers, set to crack if heavy gets over 20k. Same setup for light. If gas gets over 24k, it kicks on a pump to make solid fuel from gas, to keep the tank from ever fully filling. This line of gas solid fuel comes into the light solid fuel, so if the gas array is running it blocks the light array. And that's that. Set up production as needed, add more refineries/crackers as needed. With this simple arrangement, I've never had an issue.

Erm, fluid is NOT evenly distributed amongst receivers. I think Kibitz's setup is ok, in that the large distance in the pipe to the solid fuel will lower consumption rate, however there's not enough nearby consumers to ensure full usage for non-solid fuel purposes. Nilaus actually makes use of circuitless designs for oil processing in his masterclass series, although I would say that a circuit based design is more forgiving.

Hey kibz, (6:45) you should learn how to use the circuit network (combinators, wires, ect.) to make a "smart" oil setup. It works like this: it reads the amounts of the three fluids (petro, light, heavy) and balances them so there is never a oversupply of one fluid. If there is more HEAVY than LIGHT, it crack HEAVY into LIGHT. if there is more LIGHT than PETROLEUM, it cracks it into PETROLEUM. You boild it like this: - get 3 storage tanks for each fluid (same amount of tanks for all fluids btw, i usually do 4 per each fluid to have a buffer) - connect all of the tanks with either green or red wire together (that's how you can read the amounts of all fluids); - get 2 pumps (this goes to cracking) going out of both heavy and light fuel tanks and connect with the tanks with the wire (this enables the pumps to read the values of the tanks so they know when to run/stop). - You have now constructed the physical buildings required. now onto the logic inside: You can click the pumps to setup rules when they will run/stop; click the pump going out of light oil. -there are 3 little windows, left, centre and right. left and right is for values that get compared and the centre is for the rule how they get compared (equals, greater than, less than, ect...). -If the rule you set there is TRUE (example: [left] > [right]; IF value left is larger than value right = TRUE, it's like programming), then the pump will RUN and if FALSE, the pump will not run. -back to the light oil pump, you set [light oil] [>=] [petroleum]. Boom, done. (>= for the case when both are exactly equal. This can stop the factory so dont use the [>] but do use the [>=]) -for the heavy oil it is exactly the same but [heavy oil] [>=] [light oil]. you are useing petroleum the most anyways so you don't need to do anything with that. just use it for plastic and sulfur and stuff. If there are any questions, I'm happy to answer!

in the long run you will need petroleum, rocket fuel (=light oil), and some lube (=heavy oil), but not nearly as much. there really is no need to buffer heavy or light as intermediates. if you build the respective cracking after the lube and fuel factories, once they are backed up it will auto overfow to the next higher refined state up to petroleum. i do use pumps to prevent backflow (which isnt even really required i think) but no circuit network required. which ofc doesnt mean that smart approach doesnt work.
@lankatr4 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to bother with circuits you can take a shortcut by placing a pump in the direction where you want fluids prioritized. It's like 1% the complexity but does 90% of the job
@reoseeyedglasses4 жыл бұрын
The amount of what fluids you require changes with what you are researching ,with what sciences you have working and what you are producing to upgrade your factory and blow biters to kingdom come A stockpile of solid fuel is great for eventual rocket fuel production. You have the mods for coal gasification, coal liquification, gas condensation to light oil and condensation to heavy oil if you want to try and close the fluid loop. Playing with the refinery setup is one of the most fun parts of the game I find. Blueprints like Advanced Oil Processing Allrounder Mk2 are a good way to start learning circuits and you can cut, copy and paste to add sections of refinery to meet your needs and adjust the pumps for tuning to learn how it works. After playing with that it's easy to go on to design and build your own. In only my third Factorio playthrough I currently have a stockpile of 1.8 million units of solid fuel which is way too much. Perhaps an unfortunate accident could reduce that somewhat. Burn it all!. You have inspired me. It's a fun game and less laborious than Satisfactory. I'm really enjoying watching you play it. I hope it's going to be a long series. You make it enjoyable. The opportunity to inadvertently create your own Chernobyl with the Realistic Reactors mod is an experience that everyone should try too.

- As well as blueprints, you can command bots with CTRL+C (copy), CRTL+V (paste), CTRL+X (cut), and CTRL+Z (undo). - At 29:00 your bots are going away from the construction site as they have run out of charge and need to go to the nearest roboport, robots don't plan ahead for charging so you need to have charging ports in frequently travelled areas. - Until you get speed techs for your bots, it will take them a VERY long time to travel the whole length of your base to repair defences. You would be better off with separate networks for each wall. When a bot is needed for a job the network chooses one at random, not necessarily the nearest one.
@metenrog4 жыл бұрын
Someone probably already said this but the bottom left of your base isn’t connected to your logistics network.
@deon7004 жыл бұрын
Second (or however many people have mentioned it before) using circuit networks to help control fluid flow to different areas. I'd also look at separating your base network with your defence network. The main issue is that their is potential for a construction not to fly across the base to fix a wall, depending where available repair packets are. Localizing it to some extent will help with regulating it. It's also worth using a circuit network to limit the total amount of robots in the system. The current setup will just keep filling the initial robot ports until they are full, but will carry on once a robot leaves to do a job. Depending on what you plan to need,their is no point draining resources to build robots if you dont use half of them.

Something I found that helps with knowing how many robots of each type you might need is to have the robots be fed directly into the roboport when that respective robot’s “available” amount drops to zero. For example: activate the inserter when the roboport is telling it “Y = 0”. That way you don’t make too many robots but it keeps adding robots if you need more, and you don’t have to think about it.
@Cyrikyty4 жыл бұрын
You should set priorities on what gets the heavy and light oil first. You want Lubricant to be made before heavy oil is cracked into light, and you want solid fuel from light oil made before its cracked into petroleum. This is quite simple to do, build a storage tank, have one pump go in, and 2 out. Connect one of the outward pumps to the tank with some red/green wire and tell it to only work if there is more than x of the respective fluid in the tank. That way the other one will always take first, so the one controlled by the circuit has a negative priority.

I'm loving this even more! One tip for your next "refactoring" that you love so much. There's a well known design in the community that is SUPER slick. IT's based off on the "distance between 4 long distance power poles". If you stretch them out to the maximum, and you make a 4x4 grid of them, it's roughly the area covered by 4 roboports in "orange" as well. So you end up with a repeatable pattern of 16 long distance poles and 4 roboports that you can repeat ad infinitum to create the sort of "foundation" like in Satisfactory. Put some decorative road/asphalt around it and voila! repeatable city grid. It Looks BEAUTIFUL

some tips of some things I noticed. A single yellow inserter that only outputs stack size 1 or 2 cannot keep up with a standard plastic build, it has to be stack size 3 for it to work. you should consider replacing those yellow inserters with a single blue one, this can keep up with the output from plastic. you also need a small stockpile of Light oil later on for Rocket Fuel. you can insert icons into the train stations by using [item=item name] for example [item=iron-ore] this will display the iron-ore icon on the map. the same thing works for fluids, but you have to use [fluid=fluid name] for example [fluid=light oil] when using blueprints power poles are the only item that will snap. if you hold left click and just drag it, the power pole will automatically go to whatever needs power. this can lead to things being a bit unclean and sometimes overlap depending on the setup, but it is a very fast way to get the power down where you need it.

I noticed at the end when you were building the accumulator farm it looked like you don't know about how the game places power poles smartly. If you click to place a power pole and hold the mouse button down and then start moving, it will automatically make sure everything is powered. Example to follow: If you place down a line of like 10 accumulators or whatever... Without smart power pole placement you'd expect click/hold/dragging power poles to leave a 2 space gap between the poles since that's what the maximum wire reach is. However, if you actually do it in game, (click to place the power pole, hold the button, and then start running in the line parallel to your accumulators) It'll look like you're going to pass some up and leave them unpowered, but then the game recognizes there is a missed structure and will retroactively go back and place a power pole earlier to make sure everything stays powered for you. This is especially handy for placing lines of things with weird sizes and spaces in between them. I use it to power a line of defenses along a wall. I put down the turrets, the inserters/belt, and the roboport, then just click/hold with a power pole near them and run in a forever line. every single thing gets powered no matter how janky my placement was.

You'll likely run into an issue here soon. Robots take direct paths, but you have large areas not covered by roboports. A robot in the dead zone, when it runs out of power, will slowly make its way to the closest roboport, even if it means going backwards. You'll end up with a lot of robots slowly crawling through those dead zones, with large projects at the far corners of your base incomplete for long periods of time. Just something to look forward to, lol.

FYI: The yellow roboport area is for construction robots, so building and repairing, but the orange area is for the logistics, so delivering and picking up items. As others have said, have a look at going into the roboport and connect them to the logistics network (only the ones at the assemblers). You can then use chest in between the assemblers going into the roboport and set the amount using X/Y/L/T signals. You’ll understand if you look it up. It’s very helpful with setting limits to how many of each bot you have moving around you’re base. Another thing... you’ll need power for roboport + robots, as they use a lot when charging. Good luck

Your oil dump does not work because it takes an equal share of the produce Ideally you need to connect a storage tank to a pump with a red or green wire and configure the pump to only be active if the tank fills to over 22 mq of fluid

Robots are a huge resource drain in both power and materials, especially if you let production run indefinitely, you should use logic to ensure you only make as many as you need.
@bahkified4 жыл бұрын
now that you have robots, you can put down ghost buildings and copy/paste in the map view! Just zoom in a bit so you can see the ground normally and you can direct your robot army while barely lifting a finger

to bad factorio doesn't make as much views as satisfactory i hope u will still continue to play it cuz you are my new fav factorio youtuber. not saying that u only do it for the views just that it maybe could idk be demotivating

Satisfactory is way more cinematic, no wonder it gets a lot more views. But he very well knew that beforehand, I don't think he's going to suddenly abandon this series any time soon.

The factorio fan base is one of puuure logistical madness. Cultish almost. Heck their mantra is "The factory must grow" and they live by it. The game is never over.

Your oil setup literally hurts me on a physical level. :P The way you set it up and explained it as fluid x goes here and any extra goes over to make solid fuel is not how the fluid system works. It will (to the best of its ability and jank fluid physics) do everything equally. Each of the splits in the pipe will send (in theory) fluids in equal amounts in all directions. You would have to set up pumps with circuit network conditions to turn on and off at specific times to achieve what you think your set up is currently doing. Also, the looooong runs of above ground pipe is really really bad for efficiency, and I know how much you like your efficiency, the fluid system in Factorio has a "pressure" system in it. The more pipes you run through = lower pressure. By pressure its the amount of fluid that can travel through the pipe per second. I didnt take the time to count your pipe length (hehe anatomy joke) but im sure its over 16. Thats the point where you start losing pressure and at 200 length you see a hUge drop off in efficiency. Underground pipe counts as 2 even at max length, just replacing sections of your pipes will improve your system. Putting pumps in your lines will also help if you want to keep the above ground piping look. Ive seen the handful of people in the comments mentioning making solid fuel from light oil is the most efficient and while true, its totally fine to make it out of everything like you are to prevent backups, but what happens when the solid fuel backs up? ☺

for the 1'st time playing the game he did REALLY well, and he could do better if he knew more about it!

Slight correction that doesn't matter for normal play: Pipes don't evenly spit between all directions, as the code follows an order dependant on the order placed and the orientation of the pipe. Until you hit gigabase sorts of scales, you don't need to consider this, however :P
