What I liked about this movie is the fact that it manages to stand out from the typical "nun possessed" subgenre. I think it was smart to take the approach of using science as the "dark force". I also liked how regardless of if it's by religion or science, the women of this genre are still controlled and used as they would be if it was a cult for a dark spirit. To me it's not a condemnation of religion or science, but of oppression in general.

@thedevilsrockstxr23096 ай бұрын
Yeah u don't watch movies it is literally not tht different 😂😂😂😂
@icp72016 ай бұрын
Some of the themes are really interesting and touches of some primal fears for women, like lack of control of your own body, how you personhood can be lost when it comes to reproduction and how when you become a mother, your significance can be perceived as secondary to that of your baby. Not to mention the sexual violence and how even safe environments can be distorced and invaded by threats. It reckons back to how it is really hard for women to feel 100% safe, even more so in a new and unknown place
@chriswelter38596 ай бұрын
Although nun horror has become a distinct genre, I must admit that the incorporation of science in this film was indeed refreshing. The nature of the baby remains ambiguous, leaving room for various interpretations. It could be a satanic entity, a deformed fetus, or even a genetically modified offspring of Jesus Christ, disfigured as a divine punishment for the antagonists' attempt to resurrect Him. It is commendable that this religious horror movie deviates from the conventional portrayal of Satan or demons as the primary antagonists. Still, the scares were cheap and there was a LOT of filler. The Omen prequel was better.

When we saw it in theaters the sounds coming from the baby sounded disgusting and like it was in pain. We thought that say that DNA truly was from Jesus himself, out of all the samples you could potentially have his DNA on, they picked it from his crucifixion… pain, suffering, and death. Wouldn’t that manifest in the DNA, so what kind of baby were you expecting. OR since no one really knows what the son of the lord looks like, it could be something inhuman looking and terrifying. For example if you look up what angels are supposed to “really look like” it’s kinda terrifying

This doesn’t actually line up with Catholic doctrine too well. 1) Mary was the immaculate conception, not Jesus. 2) I feel like this was made with the assumption that God forced Mary to carry Jesus when the reality is much more consensual

We all know this movie is popular for two reasons. Two very large Sydney Sweeney related reasons.

There are two GIANT plot points. That’s why this movie was made.

The movie is far from shallow or bland, the whole point is the church’s blind faith and predatory nature - but instead of child grooming (as with many cases), they groom an unsuspecting woman who is just looking for a purpose. Secilia starts off the movie blindly following orders and instructions but as she witnesses more of the horror she stops. She never questions her faith in God, but her trust in the convent. The reason they don’t show what the baby is at the end is because it doesn’t matter - it’s an abomination, a fake. It’s an odd movie for sure but it is unique in its portrayal of religion-based obsession and madness. It also doesn’t fall into the ‘possessed nun/priest’ trop that most religious horror movies use.

Hey I think I commented on your last video and asked if you’d do immaculate. Thank you for doing it! Idk if it was in part due to my comment or just coincidental timing but either way thank you, super cool of you man! Been watching since 2020 you’re great man, keep it up!
